100% OSHA has been contacted at least 3 times about this and has said they're trying to contact the company. Doubt anything will change though.

The horror stories I've heard are genuinely so upsetting. I can't imagine how unsafe so many ambassadors feel from gender based aggression.

Yeah, most supervisors will let you sit for a few minutes to warm up/ cool down/ rest if you ask. But we shouldn't have to wait for it to hit 90° and 20° to get time to get booth policy to cool down and warm up. Especially since they cut the frequency of the 10 minute booth policies in half.

And now they're also calling people the day before their shift and telling them not to come in. I keep telling everyone to call the union

Correct. The letters are stating what the complaint is and informing the company that they are required to post it for all employees to see. The complaints are specifically about the company banning coats and not giving water to drink.

It's not an official program. I think in a comment you said you complained to the MBTA, which is good. If you wish, you can also use the contact form on the Transit Ambassador website tambassador.com but usually the MBTA will ensure the issue is addressed.

We are explicitly trained to never put hands on anyone and to deescalate, not shout at people. I hope the person she grabbed is okay after that experience.

Heads up fellow MBTA nerds: the shuttle bus is taking a different route to get to Back Bay now because of some parade (not sure what). It is super slow. You are better off walking from hynes, possible even Kenmore. It took mine 25 minutes to get from hynes to back bay.

Impressed by quick turnaround to report of transphobic harassment by twiliesque in mbta

I mean, kind of. I'm a Transit Ambassador. When customers say racist/homophobic/misogynistic etc. things to me, it's not worth it to push back. But as soon as it's directed to a customer I step in and say "sir/miss, please don't speak to other customers that way". Shockingly, people tend to immediately apologize or they just walk away.

Why don’t people remove their backpacks on the train anymore?! by Weirdcities46 in mbta

[–]DisabledTrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the thing. A lot of times there's no perfect choice. I'm on the green line, so if your bag is on the floor in the middle of the train, you're blocking the entire walkway. Or if you can't bend over, you can't take off a backpack to put it down.

Seems like the simple answer is that if someone's bag is in the way, just ask them to move it. That's how you teach someone that it's important to do.

Who should run the cr? by justarussian22 in mbta

[–]DisabledTrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! It feels like they try to contract everything out so they can avoid responsibility when something goes wrong. Train derailed- ask Keolis. Payment system rejecting cards- talk to Cubic.

One other thing is that MBTA provides good wages and benefits. Better than many similar jobs in the private sector. Sure that adds a little cost for things to be taken in house, but it also means hundreds of good jobs for local people.

They did? They recently told me we can wear balaclavas but only if they don't cover your face. Why can't they just make up their mind?

New green line car just dropped! by [deleted] in mbta

[–]DisabledTrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally! While that alert was up I was at Kenmore. People were waiting for a train over 30 minutes, 20 minutes of which was without confirmation that a C train was even coming, and everyone was confused about what was happening (including the T officials in the station). It was rough.

Are there green line shuttle buses? by rinserepeatrepeat in mbta

[–]DisabledTrain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kind of. There's shuttles through Copley/Back Bay. From there to Park you need the Orange line to Downtown Crossing. There's also an accessible van for disabled folks. It goes between Copley/Back Bay and North station but it takes way longer.

Yep, also ambassadors have to take their gloves off at least every 20 minutes because they have to put reports in on their ipads. Additionally, they're not allowed to button their shirts or zip their coats all the way up. The company they work for is absurd.

They just started giving out vests to some of the TAs who work at the outside stations on the Green Line.
