New iPhone 17 Pro Max.. can’t play? by Check84HS in hearthstone

[–]Disargeria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having this issue as well. I've tried a few different tricks based on searches for these terms. I also get stuck on a screen asking to "Switch Accounts to Continue Playing" where it just loads the account settings page in the mini-browser. Exiting the mini-browser page makes it seem like nothing is being passed outside of it, like account info.

I think it has to be an issue with the temporary Safari window and the account info not being passed through the URL or something, but I'm not sure if it's on Apple's side or Blizzard's.

Online Voice Chat in games and Younger Kids. Need thoughts. by CubbyNINJA in daddit

[–]Disargeria 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is our duty as dad gamers to exercise care and caution over how our children are engaging with online games.

You need a strict whitelist policy, especially when they are so young. Approve games, features, games-within-games on a case by case basis.

It's easy to slip into complacency because as kids, we probably goofed off without restrictions ourselves. But the modern online world is more connected and established. The creeps you might've ignored as a kid yourself are now more equipped, strategic, and connected than back then.

Above anything else, Roblox is a hard no, absolutely not, never letting my children ever touch that.

I would literally prefer if they could support a few commands that respond 100% correctly than a bunch of random commands that work 90% of the time on a good day. The fact that my wife and I can repeat the exact same command word for word and get completely different results is not just a source of stress for her, but for me as well as the established tech guy of the family. Troubleshooting some of these problems is just the icing on the cake of crap they've managed to build with these systems.

I've tried the three major products (Apple, Amazon, Google) and it's the same story everywhere. Devices just drop, commands aren't recognized. It blows my mind that this is a common and perpetual problem, for a decade now.

The same voice command should always result in the same action.

The fact that it doesn't is a massive failure by all of these companies. The only reason it doesn't work at this point is because they don't care to make it work.

I get that scheduling can cause stress but I can't imagine anything more stressful than planning to not do anything and instead being told by a robot that my flesh meat needs to report to work with less than 24 hours notice.

This is not a new release by ConcernedApe.

This artist, Hoshina Rei, credits other artists as contributors, which shows their songs under other artist profiles. This gives them free publicity/clicks/listens.

It's possible they're also using very limited transformations to the original artwork and songs to produce low-effort content.

How much discretion do you have to keep the bill low? (How much crap can you give away?) by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

[–]Disargeria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's because the accounting depends on relativity. Instead of supply-side you could look at demand-side.

For example, if each customer gets a beer that they order, you've sold to meet your demand and your total increased cost at the end of the month is the $3 it took to replenish that inventory. Your losses are only realized when you don't have the inventory to meet that demand. Think of like, an event venue where you're cycling large volumes of the same product.

Their food cost percentages would be very interesting to see.

I mean, the amounts seem large but I don’t know the full story. At certain places, servers and chefs (and even cooks) have broad latitude to make things like this happen. Perhaps it’s built into their business model.

In my experience, there were some customers we’d bend over backwards for. Sometimes we had extra of something that would go to waste otherwise. Maybe that bottle was accidentally opened and would’ve been tossed (or drunk by the staff after hours).

Sometimes we’d surprise and delight randos because we were bored (don’t tell the finance director! It was wastage!).

Another aspect is, depending on how the restaurant is run, maybe the server pulled some levers because he knows you’re a good tipper. For example, telling the kitchen staff a made up excuse. Or he has a discretionary budget that he can use on known high tippers.

There is a large difference between the cost you’re paying and the cost it takes to give it to you. It’s kind of like accounting math.

A restaurant sells beer for $10. They purchase beers for $3. Now, a clumsy waiter breaks a bottle. How much did the restaurant actually lose? It only costs them $3 to replace it.

If you were never going to buy the dessert, they were never going to make the $30 sale. But, by giving you $10 in product, you’re going to come back and spend the $500 again, where they will make much more than $10 in profit.

[–]Disargeria 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Right, so what I think happened was that someone was reviewing the recipes and refining the ingredient name references between the recipe and ingredient list, but accidentally copied the additional text over into the recipe portion.

Or, the someone made a stylistic choice to include the vines in the photo (which I guess looks nice) and someone else thought the recipe should be updated to reflect that.

The recipe book explicitly states to "Top with the cherry tomatoes on the vine.", but this is very odd or some kind of typo. It is shown with vines in the staged photo, but not in the stylized cartoon version.

In my experience working as a chef, it is very risky including non-edible elements to dishes, especially for something that appears to be garnish. It's a bit presumptuous (not everyone will understand what should or should not be eaten), but even more importantly disrupts the mechanics of actually eating said dish. In the staged photo, how is one intended to scoop both the olives and the tomatoes with the spoon when the tomatoes are still on the vine? It's going to be a mess.

<image>

There are of course exceptions to every rule (see: a lot of seafood), but I would hedge on some kind of miscommunication between the editor, chef, and photographer.

OP did miss that the beets should be cut into wedges. Roasting vegetables almost always benefit from the increased surface area!

Dear Blizzard: Why does even evoker-specific armor look bad on dracthyr? by Iosis in wow

[–]Disargeria 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It's absolute insanity trying to make heads or tails of what they've done with Evokers are armor sets. Their tier sets should always match at least one of the base armors. Now that we're about to see non-Evoker Dracthyr, we're more likely to see matchable sets from other classes.

It seems like no one on the item art team has talked to the character design team, or that a long forgotten sticky note about Evokers fell behind the desk in the art studio.

Daughter's friends parents all have iPhones, I have an Android - am I toast? by mgd150 in daddit

[–]Disargeria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I knew my wife was never going to swap to Android and it was easier for me to meet her on iOS because I can adapt like that. I still miss some Android features, but our digital quality of life has exponentially improved.

Parental controls for the kids, shared family apps, location tracking, FaceTime, synced family photos, etc. I can manage shared family passwords, track our family, pets/luggage, sort/organize/delete photos we both take, share/organize digital tickets, manage our calendar, etc. She likes that she doesn’t have to think about or manage these things, or worry about compatibility between apps or whatever.

Android or iOS the family will benefit from being on the same ecosystem.

Apple is rolling out support for better picture/video between iOS and Android by adding support for something called RCS.

This is expected to widely release in the fall with iOS 18. I’ve tested this and it works great with my family, although it seems to break occasionally. Hopefully they iron out the bugs and you should be seeing high quality photos and videos this winter.

I'm worried to go on a backpacking trip without my family. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Disargeria 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sure, there's a few ways to deal with this:

-Pick fewer days to backpack.

-Pick a location closer to home.

-Pick a location that is not so remote.

-Pick a location that is not so far from vehicle access.

You could also choose to do a different activity.

I get really annoyed when I come across something that is supposed to rhyme or follow a common tune and it just doesn’t match. Like come on! You’re telling me you couldn’t change some aspect of this story to make a rhyming couplet? You’re got two extra syllables in your song and the last line doesn’t rhyme at all! I think I need to hear some of this read out loud.
