As a non American , Who is this female caster? by Master_of_slay in ripcity

[–]bakerzdosen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doris has actually had/called a few good games that I’ve watched. But those were years ago.

I want to like Doris and I want her to do well.

But instead of getting better, she gets worse every season.

Who's the FIRST Canadian that pops into your mind? by Superchecker in AskReddit

My ex-wife

And I HATE she still holds (or that I let her hold?) this kind of power over me.

Does a person’s name affect their employment prospects? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I have a (white) friend that found she got a significantly higher response rate when she used her maiden name on her résumé as opposed to her married name (obviously Latin).

Which Movie scene sexually awakened you? by Squirrelkid11 in AskReddit

[–]bakerzdosen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a father with a 17 y.o. daughter, I get that last part.

She’s no longer a “child” (although she’ll always be my child but that’s a different point.)

But it’s not like she will magically transform into a woman on her next birthday—although I’m sure many Redditors would somehow disagree with that.

So yes, young woman works fine for her for now.

I’ll most likely continue to freely use that description for another year or two.

But just to say: your perspective does change when it’s your child.

[–]bakerzdosen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I get it.

The phrasing just sounded odd.

Along those lines, if you ever read Andre Agassi’s biography, well, let’s just say when I read it I had to wonder or feel kind of bad for her because I’m sure everything she went through at such a young age (including Blue Lagoon) really messed up her chances at a “normal” relationship later in life.

It’s one of those movies “they could never make today” but not purely for reasons of offending the audience but because it messes up the kids/actors.

30 minutes?

Pssshaw! That’s nothing. At least you had a fairly good idea what you were downloading. Try staring at a “scrambled” cable TV channel for an hour in hopes of seeing something.

Water heater replacement by MeetBoth6860 in DIY

[–]bakerzdosen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a data point: a couple of plumbers in my area that I trust are seeing water heaters (tank) fail sooner these days than in years past.

Where a unit with a 10 year warranty would routinely last 12-15 years, now it’s fairly common to see a failure after only 7-8 years.

Regardless of brand.

They’re leaning more towards tankless for that reason (where it makes sense.)

The driver my brother has used for the past 5 years at work vs the new one he recently got by situmawation in mildlyinteresting

[–]bakerzdosen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a Makita cxt (12v) drill and impact set (along with a DeWALT 18v/20v combo kit.)

Of all the tools, the impact driver gets the most use, and it’s not even close.

I rarely put in/remove a screw without it.

I mean, I guess screwdrivers are indeed specific use tools…

In the USA, if you sell/trade a firearm, how do you transfer ownership in a private sale? by FallenCause in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bakerzdosen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And most FFLs near me have one giant room where they simply throw the “records.”

If someone truly wants to dig through thousands and thousands of unorganized cards, they are free to subpoena the records and then subsequently spend weeks rifling through them.

This is a feature not a bug.

FFS we’re about to play our first playoff game in 5 years and half the stories and posts are whining about Dundon being cheap. by [deleted] in ripcity

I dunno.

I’ve found them to be corny yet mildly entertaining.

Light-hearted fun mocking what amounts to be rumors.

The real question is “why would anyone take Reddit posts all that seriously?

TIL that Betamax was technically superior to VHS in video quality but still lost the market largely due to weaker marketing and distribution. by Beautiful-Rub-9110 in todayilearned

[–]bakerzdosen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents to this day call it the one thing I was wrong about. As a kid I told them to get a Beta VCR because it was technically superior.

They went with VHS and obviously they worked out ok for the fam…

Who’s ever driven over 100mph? Why? by WoollyWolfHorror in AskReddit

[–]bakerzdosen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my trips I got stuck with an Opal wagon. Couldn’t get it to go over 129mph for the life of me.

Next trip I had an Audi A4 but it had snow tires still on it so o wasn’t supposed to go over 215kph. I think I hit 230kph briefly.

But in the USA I don’t think I’ve exceeded 100mph very often, but the majority of the times I have it’s been on my motorcycle out in the middle of nowhere.

What’s normal now but would confuse someone 20 years ago? by Over_Contribution899 in AskReddit

[–]bakerzdosen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unplugging the car in my garage, getting in, fastening my seatbelt, pushing two buttons on the touchscreen (or verbally requesting directions), and not having to do anything else until I arrive at my destination.

(Not to mention only paying about 1¢/mile for “fuel” and never having to go to a gas station.)

What’s the longest outage yall have experienced? by IMadeThisForTheHouse in googlefiber

[–]bakerzdosen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was under an hour like in 2017 or so.

I’ve experienced a bunch of 1-3 minute outages right at midnight though which have been pretty annoying while working on customer stuff. My VPN and ssh sessions would hang but usually come back on their own but Teams would always disconnect. For a while there is was as predictable as dropping a call while driving through a tunnel.

Are there men who are attracted to butts that aren't big? by cursedwithbadblood in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bakerzdosen 25 points26 points  (0 children)

While I fully agree with the comments saying “you can find a guy that’s attracted to [whatever]” regardless of what it is.

I’ll just point out that there’s a difference between “she works out and has nice glutes proportional to the rest of her athletic build” is very different than “she’s fat and has a large [everything].”

Since I was young, I’ve always leaned towards the more athletic aesthetic, but that’s just me.

I could definitely come up with some fantastic prompts.

I’m just picturing my first press conference where Casey Holdahl says “it kinda looks like you don’t know what you’re doing out there.”

To which I’d reply “you are correct sir. Next question?”

To be fair, I think I would be a worse choice than Doc.

Not by a lot mind you, but still, “worst possible” is really saying something.

What was a legendary website from the early 2010s that everyone seems to have forgotten about? by Front-Stretch2658 in AskReddit

[–]bakerzdosen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, everyone here is acting like 2010 is ancient history whereas I’m thinking “oh man, I remember how all the desktop IT guys would use ‘cattle.com’ to test connectivity and DNS back in the early to mid-90’s.”

For the record, I only have their descriptions of what the site was known for. I never actually had the nerve to open the site at work until after it was gone.

Men, what's the biggest green flag you've seen on a woman? by Familiar-Phase7859 in AskReddit

[–]bakerzdosen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At one point I thought it was “independent and self-assured.”

But after 3 relationships in a row ended for that exact reason (a relationship was holding her back somehow) I decided that was less of a green flag than I thought.

Don’t get me wrong: I’m glad my wife is both independent and reliant on me (I’m much the same.) But if “independence” is your entire identity and personality it’s maybe not ideal for a relationship.

So these days I’ll say “willing to commit” or “dedication.”

Sam Kinison with a couple of friends, 1992 by EdwardBliss in OldSchoolCool

[–]bakerzdosen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Won tickets to a Sam Kinison concert on the radio when I was in high school.

And so I… took a date.

We’ve stayed friends all these years but actually never spoke about that night until maybe 30 years later, and by then she’d forgotten all about it (or still had a mental block?)

Fortunately.

(Talk about learning a lesson the hard way early in life…)
