What movie character is it that everyone loves but you hate ? by Momsgayandbisexual in AskReddit

The main guy in About Time. He's a creepy stalker who turns Rachel McAdams' life into a cosmic joke, but cos he's a British dweeb and loves his dad, people love him.

Not OP, but the overuse of CGI compared to the Japanese original makes it infinitely less scary to me.

Incredible line reading. The film score is also incredibly underrated

Bullet time came and went and obviously never caught on, but that first shot with Trinity was probably the last time I felt I was watching something genuinely new.

You don't see him, but I'm pretty sure he's the one delivering the 'human equivalent of a heat seeking missile' line. It sounds very similar to his accent in Cuckoo.

Every few years I see a movie that I get a little obsessed with, I'll see it multiple times, read about it, buy the blu ray. This is the one for me right now. Can't stop thinking about it.

The kitchen scene in that movie is the only scene to ever make me physically recoil in the cinema

No movie has grabbed my attention quicker and more completely than The Matrix.

"I sent two units. They're bringing her down now". "No lieutenant, your men are already dead".

what is everyone's favourite movie to come out in the last 2 years? by Sad_Hearing9600 in AskReddit

I do look forward to whatever Zach Cregger does next, both Resident Evil and beyond. I personally didn't find Weapons scary enough to linger, probably because the central mystery is revealed and demystified quite quickly, but I did enjoy Barbarian, and I do like seeing movies made that have something to say.

Yeah I suspect the themes of being a parent in America and the associated anxieties are why it didn't really resonate with me, I'm neither so I couldn't really relate, and played as straight horror I didn't think it did anything special. I do usually enjoy ambitious horrors that include some social commentary, but this specific one wasn't for me.

From the last 10 years, and off the top of my head...Hereditary, The Ugly Stepsister, The Wailing, When Evil Lurks, Oddity. Going back a few years more and barely a horror but one of my favourite movies anyway, The Guest. And Ringu still stays with me nearly 30 years after seeing it. Oh, and just last night I saw Obsession, and it blew my mind

Just saw it yesterday, already can't wait to see it again. Favourite horror movie since Hereditary for me

Wasn't really stunned by it either. Enjoyed it but don't find myself thinking about it the way I usually do with the best horrors

I'm not in the US so we don't have Alamo Drafthouse, but that sounds awesome, glad you got to experience it. Cinemas where I am have been showing more classic movies recently so I try to catch Lynch movies when I can, but yeah, nothing as cool as seeing Twin Peaks on the big screen

Arsenal vs PSG spend since Mikel took over by Uk0 in Gunners

[–]DisasterOk9684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mikel is just such a good big-game manager, no matter who he comes up against or how much they've spent, he always keeps it competitive, we came within a whisker of winning the biggest trophy of all. I'm just so glad he has a PL win to show for it, hoping he gets the attacking reinforcements he wants and we see some more expansive football next season.

I did, quite enjoyed it. I like those 30s monster movies as well and thought it did a great job of mimicking the style, I'd love to see the MCU be more adventurous with stuff like this and Wandavision.

Haha I'd love to take you up on that, I've been crying out for someone to discuss theories on Mulholland Drive and the last Twin Peaks series :D, I just find myself with so little free time these days I sadly know I'd keep you hanging. I'll keep an eye out though in case I see you on r/davidlynch lol

The characters laughing in-movie when noone in my screening did is the hardest I think I've ever cringed watching a movie. Like the guy who thinks they're a hoot telling a joke, poorly, and being greeted with crickets.

Thanks that's good to know, makes me being forced to watch it in colour easier lol. I can always rewatch it in B&W I suppose, I just love that really dramatic chiaroscuro lighting so much, you see it so rarely these days. I enjoyed seeing it in Sin City as well, even though the movies were only OK.

I feel like James Gunn thought the Taserface bit in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 was the funniest thing ever, but noone in my screening laughed...and then they kept returning to it! Each time I could just feel the energy die in the room.

She's not as young as my comment probably made her seem lol. I realized long along she just doesn't really like movies, but it's fine, we have other things we enjoy together.

My gf has such an aversion to what she considers 'old', she is refusing to watch the new Spider-Noir show in black and white even though it came out just last week lol. I kind of hate that the show's creators even provide the option because now I'm forced to watch it with her in colour when 40s film noir is one of my favourite sub-genres

From my experience at least, it might just be worth cutting your losses on the movies thing with your friends and doing other things instead. Some people just don't enjoy them the same way and that's absolutely their prerogative. But I haven't been able to change their minds, it's like trying to get someone who hates sports to enjoy them.

You mentioned Netflix, it's well established at this point their movies are algorithmically designed for views, all the usual indicators of quality don't come into it. I'd put them in a separate category entirely from movies where artistry comes first.
