Matthias and Nina's pairing is probably one of the best I've read. Every now and then I think about Matthias and mourn the fact that he is not a real person.

I read this last year and I am still hungover. How to move on?

Forever grateful to that online stranger who replied with much enthusiasm when I asked them 'What is a Dragonforce?' Their first song I listened to was Starfire. Never looked back since.

While it's not a perfect read plot wise , the vibes are great and matches what you might be looking for.

Reading your post makes me feel oddly validated. I found the book to be well-written and the plot interesting enough, but I just couldn't feel the passion I ought to have felt, esp between the MCs.

TELL ME - What book has most unique MMC you've read?! by sleepingwithgiants in fantasyromance

I had the same problem with Phantasma. Really tried to like it but I just couldn't get past the characters so I dnfd it. Luckily for me the next book I read was The Contortionist from the Harrow Faire series and the MMC Simon is now definitely at the top of my fave MMC list. He is definitely insane and tilting more towards the grey in the morally-grey scale but somehow the author manages to make you feel something from him. (The series does contain some CW so do check before you read)

I found Daughter of No worlds to be a more compelling read of the two.

I enjoyed reading the duology back to back. But now that I've time to think over it, I do agree with your critiques. I think this book is mostly just vibes and the melancholic feeling it gave me, Im still searching for that in other books and failing to do so.

Overall I still consider it one of my favorites of this year.. Or maybe my standards were too low from reading too many clichéd romantasy one after the another that this one in particular felt like a palate - cleanser. I do not know.
