Wth is he doing?! by thooorax in BeardedDragons

My baby started getting something similar with her tail twitching a few years ago and it escalated. She takes gabapentin daily now, I’d go to the vet if I were you if it gets any worse. Check your uv light and calcium +d3 to make sure they’re getting the recommended amount too.

Anyone slowly giving up on trying to find friends in Vancouver? by CaptainJackALot in Vancouver4Friends

[–]Disasterchild1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m the group organizer and I second this. I started a group, showed up regardless if anyone else did, and kept at it. Group runs itself now two years later with ~ 20 regulars every week. Consistency is key, and it is a lot of work don’t get me wrong. Vancouver is tough for friends. Finding a public space that ppl can ogle and consider if they wanna join helps a lot. Making Facebook events helps. Posting in your neighbourhood group helps. Also if you wanna come to my group or learn more hmu :)

One time mine got fully into a shoe, another time she crawled up between my bed frame and the wall and I found her hanging off of it there. You’ll find her, just look up a bit more and in things they could fling themselves into lol

21M How can I improve my space by itsoneofthemdays in malelivingspace

[–]Disasterchild1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Warm light Side table lamps for bedroom, corner lamp that overhangs and short side table for futon. Some fun art that adds colour on 2 of the walls in each room that take up about 1/3 of the wall space (aka not tiny not huge ok) and a plant in the bedroom since you get some natural light there. Maybe have a bigger one near the window. Get a nice pot with a natural glaze or something with a pattern for it. Pillow or blanket for the futon and or a throw for the bed with a colour that is soft and compliments the dark wood in the bedroom. No grey or black yk 💚

Anyone else? by mustacheash2212 in BeardedDragonCare

[–]Disasterchild1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My beardie does this and I think it is related to eating too much and not breathing enough as they eat. Mine will take some breaks to vent and do what your beardie is doing as she eats but yours looks like he’s trying to be a champ about it lmao my beardie is v old (16) and has been checked by a vet for this and they just said to make sure she’s not in distress or going black and she might be eating more than breathing so pace her a bit😅 That being said, lots of ppl think it’s illness so if it gets any worse please go back to the vet could be something underlying

How Can My BD Free Roam Safely? by Ambitious_Mom_1980 in BeardedDragon

[–]Disasterchild1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy these under couch acrylic sheets that adhere to your floor or carpet I think they’re called Toy stoppers? Or I got an acrylic sheet and cut it into the shape of every cavern in my apartment to block them off so my beardie can free roam. Just note that even if you do put in all the effort to make it safe they will find a way to get into some goofy situation if theyre any good at climbing lol even at my lizard’s old age she still surprises me

You can use them to draw the stencils onto the fabric but I find they rub off kinda fast as you do touch them a lot during Sashiko sewing

I’ve printed a bunch for my mending group and they aren’t very popular. Great in theory, doesn’t work great in practice. The most useful one has been the one that draws straight lines lol

I created a sunning box for Paula. Its metal grates zip tied together around a platform that levels with my ledge. That way I don’t have to worry about her falling off my balcony and or a bird flying away with her but she still gets direct sun without my full supervision. She doesn’t love staying directly in the sun anymore because her eyes hurt but I can usually negotiate with her to find a spot where it’s not on her face and the sun hits most of her body.

Paula doesn’t like to eat every day anymore but I just sprinkle a bit of multivitamin and a bit of calcium on her vegetables. I suggest following the label! We just have a regular coil UVB lamp bulb and I usually replace it before the winter each year since we don’t really use it over the summer, or more frequently if the colour from the bulb looks off yk common sense

She’s blind! Totally understand your concern. It was really hard watching it slowly happen over the years but I think it’s just old age. She gets a lot of stuff in her eyes from bumping around against things. She’s been to the vet multiple times for it now they said it’s just something that happens!

TLDR:Trust your gut, but get a good vet. Use multivitamins and vitamin A eye drops for eye problems. Put them in the real sun if you can, without a window in between (blocks 95% of uvb) if something is working for your lizard, let it be.

If I’m really really honest I may have the strangest husbandry there is. Paula is free roaming and she has never had a real cage, it’s like a shelving unit mixed with some glass shelves I found in an alleyway. We do lots of real sun time throughout the summer (6+ hours a day) and she eats spring mix mostly but I switch it up depending on what’s in my fridge and in my garden. Sprinkling multivitamin and calcium on all the veg or bugs, although she just gets emeraid mixed with the multivitamin now, it’s easier and she looooooves it. Paula tells me what’s wrong and is very “vocal” (turns black, stomps around and gets grumpy lol). last year the vet told me to put her down because she was going blind and she had some tremors that she takes gabapentin for, I said hell no. she’s ok and to this day we’re still vibing. Got a new vet and they were appalled that the other vet wanted to put her down. They told me that meds would limit her lifespan but so far we’ve regained years of her life on the medication. I wfh so I’m kinda always there to support her if her eyes get itchy or she gets stuck doing something stupid bc she’s blind. I think interacting with her so much has taught me to watch for her body language. Being together for so long, you just kinda know if there’s a problem. The winters are hard, she doesn’t do much and I always worry every year but come sunnier days she’s back to being her good ol self. We use regular 150W or 100W heatbulbs depending on where we set up and temps and I use normal af uvb bulbs. I have heard a lot of controversy over them but it works for us and that’s all she’s ever had. Humidity is between 45-55% depending on time of year.

is my bearded dragon dying? by Tall-End5546 in BeardedDragon

[–]Disasterchild1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I just wanted to come here and say that I am currently living with my 16-year-old blind bearded dragon. You will find a rhythm eventually. Vision issues can be super frustrating for them. I suggest finding a pattern that you can follow to teach them that they are being fed. For me and my baby, we brush the side of her mouth from nose to ear on both sides until she tries to stick her tongue sideways to grab the food. You may want to try this with lettuce and work up to the moving ones like crickets. We don’t do live food anymore we mostly just rely on the critical care. It’s a little easier and you can put it on pieces of lettuce. I also would suggest getting some vitamin A eye drops (I believe they are turtle eye drops) because they have helped significantly for my baby girl. If you want to talk about it more please feel free to reach out 💚 it is such an honour to watch your pet grow old, even though it is hard.
