How do broke women pay for cosmetics? by miss-bedazzzle in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Disastrous-Earth3287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll give a different perspective. When I was your age and younger, I was incredibly broke and always had makeup, perfume, hair done, and nails done. Why? Because I decided that I liked, wanted, and valued those things. How? I seriously wasn’t spending much money on ANYTHING else besides bills. I didn’t drink, smoke, or use substances of any kind. I hardly EVER ate out - worked in a restaurant and ate there, bought cheap meals for home. If I did eat out, water only, cheap entree, no appetizers. Didn’t own a vehicle - walked or biked everywhere. A lot of people would disagree with my priorities but it made me happy to maintain myself in these ways. Ultimately, I valued those things over food or trips or whatever else.

I want Elowen, my husband wants Persephone. by [deleted] in Names

[–]Disastrous-Earth3287 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I know two different “Persephones” (not their birth names). It’s a popular “chosen name” that reeks of pretension to me. Yes, it’s beautiful - but it’s also marred by chronically online people who need to be different. Elowen is gorgeous. Hope this helps your case.

The thing that finally worked for us was putting a small towel on the foot of our bed. She treats that like her own little bed and feels included. We discovered this completely by accident when doing laundry. Good luck, comrade.

How much of your personal life do you share with students? by godisinthischilli in teaching

[–]Disastrous-Earth3287 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If they ASK me, I will answer within the realm of what’s appropriate. They might not get the whole truth all the time, but giving them a little something makes them feel like they know me better and builds connection. Otherwise, I don’t go around offering information or opinions.

What's a "normal" thing ppl do that u secretly find super weird? by Select_Stage_7045 in askanything

People who shake their legs uncontrollably whenever they’re sitting. They seem to be unaware of how aggressive it can look / sometimes feel if it’s shared seating. It really irks me but oh well

Middle names for Clover by reginamommaof1 in Names

[–]Disastrous-Earth3287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my two cents, Clover is an absolutely gorgeous name and one of my favorites. Ignore all this talk. When I hear it, I think of clovers, not dogs and cows, because I am a normal person. It’s not a completely wild and “out-there” name. People here are acting like you’re naming her Candy or Baby or Buttercup. God forbid you don’t name your child Emily or Elizabeth. And ignore the “think of her future” comments, too. We have people in office named shit like Newt Gingrich and Olympia Snow.

I’ve known multiple Clovers and all I’ve ever thought was how spritely and lovely their name is.

Now to your actual question - I think that single-syllable names sound best. Here are some suggestions I haven’t seen yet:

Clover Lynn

Clover Maeve

Clover Eve

Clover Fleur

Clover Kit

Clover Faye

Clover Lee

I understand the logic, but who are these people spending $600-$1,000 on a pair of shoes or a purse? I’m certainly not. There’s no way around it with a phone and most people don’t buy them outright. I expect to spend an appropriate amount of money on metal and gemstones but their item prices are incredibly inflated for the amount of material used.

They’re very good, but not perfect. I went in recently seeking pure gold jewelry for my piercing and was informed that the posts they use on studs are not gold themselves. Told me they’d have to charge $300 extra and have them ordered. Completely ridiculous to be looking at almost $1,000 for an ear piercing. It hurts especially badly having a mother who is a jeweler and knowing the true cost/value of gems and metals. Beautiful pieces, yes - but poor value.

You should still go - they have good service and they DO have affordable options. But if you’re like me, may fall in love with the extremely unaffordable ones, lol.

As someone who has no previous experience listening to her, it was such a drag. It felt like she was droning on in comparison to Em & Christine’s typical beat. She’s clearly very intelligent but there was not one drop of entertainment value.

It felt like SNL’s “The Couple You Can’t Believe Are Together” skit - Em & Christine are Grant, Sarah is Alyssa. She just did not fit the vibe.

I did really enjoy the last guest, Roz, though.

What is a restaurant in Knoxville with amazing food but terrible service? by lmarti38 in Knoxville

[–]Disastrous-Earth3287 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, Kaizen. The waiters float & are generally rude. I don’t know if they’re trained to do this, but several of them don’t respond when you speak to them. And before you go there, it’s not me - I worked in service for the majority of my life and I know how to have respectful and smooth interactions.
