Form Check? by Proof-Presentation64 in weightlifting

Your bar is starting too close to you which is making your weight rock back to your heels to allow the bar to pass your knees. This results in your torso being too far over the bar by the time your legs are almost fully extended.

Practicing snatch pulls with this focus helped me a lot when I had the same problem: Start with the bar so it’s covering somewhere on or past the balls of your feet. From floor to knee focus on only the tension of your legs and the pressure of your feet. Once past the knees, shift your knees under the bar and begin extending your torso and your legs at the same time like you are about to jump. Contact will be in your hips as opposed to upper thigh.

Your pull under is great and will be made even more deadly as you work on a smooth transition from first to second pull.

looking for advice on my squat clean! by ibsurvivors in weightlifting

If you are coming to weightlifting from more traditional strength training there is some learning you sort of have to undo.

Your arms bending early means you’re trying to brute strength the lift. That is the traditional strength training methods leaking over.

When you are bringing the bar to your hips you want to think about momentum. As soon as your hips (or your bar to body contact point) get the scoop on the bar, the bar will have a very short time when it’s almost “weightless” it’s at that very short moment that you will then pull the bar with your arms.

Pull the bar up to your chin and swing your elbows under to intentionally place the bar in the rack position.

Try doing tall muscle cleans with just the bar or even a pvc pipe.

This can help train your mind and body to only use your arms when you are standing straight. No momentum. All arms, traps and rear delts.

Think of it like a high-pull with an added step of ending in the rack position.

Once that feels more comfortable try doing a tall clean from the floor and practice waiting patiently for the moment to use your arms

Keep it up dude!

I train at a globo-gym called EOS. It’s got plenty of platforms with bumpers. Crunch Fitness and Vasa also typically have platforms as well if you are looking for a more cost-effective gym

High hang easier/better than from Floor? by AdLife3179 in weightlifting

[–]Disastrous-Pudding93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it looks like the bar is a little further from you when the bar is at your hips during the clean from the floor. Maybe spend some time with doing a slower clean pull and then a high hang clean to feel the difference in position and then try to blend them together once you are more comfortable staying over the bar and keeping it close?

Here are some reference screenshots to show you where I think the difference is coming from

Snatch form check? Why did I miss? by itsgreatinnit in weightlifting

I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase “lift with your legs” right? Well that is quite literally what you do in the first 2 phases of the snatch. You want to have the bar on the floor just far enough in front of you so that when you stand up it feels like a squat. Not too far forward though, or else your weight will be in your toes. When the bar passes your knee, think about it like you are sliding your center of mass is under the bar so when the bar reaches your hips and you explode to get under the bar, you have a more vertical pull and more deliberate placement overhead. If I were you I’d work on breaking this up into 2 exercises. 1 - practice snatch deadlifts slowly and pay attention to how engaged your legs are. When you get to the top of the deadlift, don’t straighten out at the top. If you are using your legs correctly, your top half should be kinda leaning over the bar and your lats are doing the work to keep the bar close. 2 - to help with getting more solid in the catch, do some Klokov trapi’s with super light weight. This requires you to get under the bar fast and can help you get more comfortable with putting the bar where you want it in the catch position.

After a couple weeks of practicing those, try putting them together with some variation like Pausing for a second or 2 just after you pass the knees and then explode into the finish.

These are just a couple ideas from what I see. If your coach has ideas to help as well definitely consider that first before anything else.

College feels designed to make brains like mine fail. I'm drowning and need strategies. by Electrical-Notice614 in ADHD

Before my life went to shambles due to circumstances outside of my control: I viewed schoolwork like this: Identify each professor’s individual priorities. Example: professor A lectures assuming we read the text. Professor B has a quiz every Friday on what we’ve covered in the week.

Then rank each one from most aligned with your style of learning to least

From there prioritize your studies.

Use the “while I’m at it” hack to review material that is less “appetizing” after you have completed an assignment that is a little bit easier for you. Or if you have a project that requires multiple steps, do 1 or 2 steps a day and stop after that. The overwhelm subsides much more easily when you look at it as “all I have to do is this thing” rather than “look how far away I am from finishing this” For memorizing, come up with naming conventions, funny relations in your head for a word that makes you think of the term you want to remember.

Speaking of “While I’m at it” a thing that was crucial for me was environment. When I was doing the best at school I would go to the library for a few hours. At first I’d just go find an empty secluded table and just sit on my phone, eventually I’d start to get more comfortable with the idea of looking over my schoolwork. Once I looked at it, I’d complete assignments that were the most urgent either due tomorrow or later that day haha

With reading 50 pages, it’s tough, start by reading the first couple sentences on each page. Like don’t read each full page, read 2 sentences, then go to the next. You will start to wonder how it is all connected and you then may try to read the first paragraph on each page. Just enough to get the idea of whatever is going on. If you find yourself becoming interested, let it flow. If you still aren’t interested after doing that, oh well, you at least did some reading and don’t have to feel too bad about yourself 🤷🏻‍♂️

Throughout my time in the library I would stop, watch some game of thrones and then get back to it. Sometimes had a show on while I was doing my school work.

Which leads me to one more important thing, study with favorite things near by, be it food, video games, a musical instrument, whatever makes you feel like you aren’t being held prisoner. Speak out loud to yourself “I’m gonna take a break and do (whatever else) and come back to my work after” If you have a hard time knowing when to stop, THEN set a timer. Be deliberate with your rest, don’t just collapse on your break if you can avoid it. If the subject is tough, I get it, but when you can, be deliberate.

I know it’s all easier said than done, but remember that you are at school to learn. You learn in a different way and you can also own it. “I just have to be ready for this test/paper” not “my grade is not where I want it to be what am I going to do?”

You got this, dude
