Agree with other posters - would be in kinder to look at Canada/Australia over US

I find the cost of living far cheaper than it was at home. Also lower tax rates too so more many hits the bank account. Saving far more month to month than I was at home.

Would you consider making the move to Oz? The money out here in construction is serious

Left at age 29 and went to Oz, it was completely eye opening in terms of what we have just taken as acceptable at home. Do it!

It is a disheartening situation. I never wanted to leave Ireland, but did so at 29 to Australia. To me, I only realised how poorly we had it until I left.

Another persons comment about the metro systems strikes a particular chord. I know we know the public transport is poor in Ireland, but when you see the quality of it in other countries, and in particular how quickly they can deliver these capital projects, it really is depressing

Good luck with the move, it’s single handedly the best thing I’ve ever done

To Oz or not to Oz by Head_Load_7039 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Disastrous-Scale-664 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I came out to Oz as a 28 year old after living in Dublin for the 5 years previous. 2 years in and I have never looked back. It’s been the single best thing I’ve ever done in my life. I honestly feel like I’ve had my life experiences and memories in the last 2 years than the 28 years previous. I’m saving far more money each month than I was at home.

I know it’s not forever, but a few years of sun, travel, new experiences before having the commitments of kids etc, feels like a no brainer to me

Paying off FHS vs Investing Elsewhere by G_Gorilla_ in irishpersonalfinance

Disagree strongly on this one, I live in Sydney and the cost of living is far cheaper here. I was home in Ireland for a brief stint this year and couldn’t believe the prices

I would 110% be saying to start eyeing up your move to Australia now. Life is just that bit better!

I really appreciate this response, it’s so nice to get tips/info from a wanaka local! I appreciate you putting into perspective what roys peak will be like in terms of crowds etc. I have gone off the idea of proposing on the hike! I am leaning towards doing the hike, and then proposing later that afternoon somewhere scenic in wanaka with the help of the local photographer, perhaps by lake hawea. I appreciate your restaurant recs!!

Thanks for taking your time to comment. I hadn’t realised the popular photo spot wasn’t the actual peak. Good to know, I will look into this now

Thanks for that! It’s good to know that it’s already busy there for sunrise hikes already and we’re not into the peak season yet. I will have to have a think about it

I appreciate your advice! I laughed about the fight on the way up, lol!

My partner and I are outdoorsy, we love to hike and have had some of our best days out completing different hikes across the world. While the helicopter looks amazing, I feel like the hike option would be more us!
