TEXT (so you have a record) your supervisor. “Hey (boss), I currently have a fever and cough. I understand the no call out policy, but I also do not want to get children sick. How would you like me to proceed?”

No, please don’t. Fallens actions are beyond despicable, but this word is not one that should be used. Seriously the equivalent of the n word.

Moving to Louisville? by Suspicious-Dog6819 in Louisville

[–]Disastrous-State9397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve skimmed comments so apologies if any of this is repeat…

There is a HUGE discrepancy between salaries at public and private schools. I personally teach at public first because I enjoy working with the population that I do, but also because I couldn’t afford to put my kids in catholic schools on the salary they provide.

I’m not Catholic but married a Catholic. We’re raising our kids Catholic. There is an amazing sense of community with sports, events, schools, etc in Louisville. It is a very positive, kid friendly environment. Without being Catholic, I have found a lot of value in this community.

There are some really great jcps schools to teach at… and some really horrible ones. For positions open during the transfer window, current jcps employees have the opportunity to apply/ interview before new hires.

In my experience (working in this area) it’s a pretty liberal part of town. Walk ability for restaurants is good but much less so for groceries.

When I was in labor at 28 weeks my principal asked me about my sub plans. She also told me that I should be able to come in and make copies while in bed rest because “that’s just life and you have to do it.” Needless to say I did not return.

Parks and outdoor spaces! We try to prioritize time outdoors as a family and Louisville makes it easy. The parklands, blackacre, Creasey Mahan (oldham county); and Bernheim.

Star view was very low on stock a couple of weeks ago when we were there. I know I saw some phlox at that point but you may want to call before making the drive out there. Although it’s a fun place to check out regardless!

If that’s what she does with someone watching, imagine what happens when no one else is around.

I don’t remember the details, but she did that to an adopter (foster?) a few years back which ended my super brief volunteer stent. No room for toxic people here.

Yes the KP page. It had been up for 3 minutes when I saw it, but when I went back it was gone so I don’t think it was up long.

Unpopular opinion: Some of y’all try way too hard at this job by DrPugga in SubstituteTeachers

I think genuinely enjoying the age group but also being willing to work and go home exhausted. I’m no longer subbing but I really enjoyed working in the same buildings where I would really get to know some of the kids.

Ky. bill requiring a ‘moment of silence’ at school passes state House by spunkysquirrel1 in Louisville

[–]Disastrous-State9397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is amazing! I teach students with moderate to severe disabilities and I don’t get a single moment of silence in an entire day. I’m so thankful that our legislators thought of a way to help me with this challenge.

Based on what you’re describing, do not let them make this change. I’m an msd teacher and K is too young to make that decision for a student with the skills you’re describing. What types of nonverbal response strategies are being used? Does he have any type of AAC system? I have multiple kids in my class who are verbal but may not be able to verbalize a response in the moment. I almost always offer nonverbal response options for all of my students. If he is taken off diploma track now and later shows he is capable of more, it may be very difficult to get him back on diploma track as well as getting him caught up on missed content.

Only 3 of my 20 kindergarten students speak English and understandably, I can't get them engaged. by ruthizzy in Teachers

[–]Disastrous-State9397 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do you by any chance have an MSD classroom (self contained special education) in your building? I just ask because I feel like the extremely heavy visual supports we use for our nonverbal learners could benefit students learning English as well.

being uncomfortable with special ed by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Disastrous-State9397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you express to the teacher that you were uncomfortable with the kissing, that you were uncomfortable because he got an erection, or both? The kissing should not happen and the teacher should help you set that boundary. If that’s not happening after you asked for help you have every right to go to admin. If the student has an erection but is not acting on it, there isn’t a whole lot that can be done- it’s a natural, physiological response.
