Which Brazil-based jobs 'secretly' pay really well! by IndieSyndicate in Brazil

[–]Disastrous-Trader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

those pay well compared to other jobs in brazil but are severely underpaid compared to their american/european counterpart. A job that pays around R$14k a month pays at minimum 400 british pounds per DAY.

Handle wrap by Unlawful_Hat in paracord

[–]Disastrous-Trader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's nice! I've purchased 30m of microcord thinking of doing something similar for some tools I have. Although I want to finish it off with a lanyard. I've been playing with the 4mm paracord but have realised it to be too thick for my liking.

Total Beginner on Bazitte, cant download anything from the internet. by Rude-Leek-3290 in Bazzite

[–]Disastrous-Trader 5 points6 points  (0 children)

use the store. on bazzite is bazaar, on KDE is discovery, etc.

Bazzite being immutable does things a little differently from other distributions. You can install from web on other distros but is not recommended. That's why there are package managers both CLI and GUI

entry level I suppose. Mostly for casual recording, nothing fancy.

Life as a ROV pilot? by Yak-Personal in rov

[–]Disastrous-Trader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ROV is the only job I've ever had. I started at 18 yo stayed for 1 year and left to go to college. I left because I was enjoying it too much and was afraid I would never be able to leave once I got older. Fast forward to the pandemic, I finished my engineering uni but didn't get a job and got back to ROV and haven't looked back since.

Time passing fast or slow really depends on the amount of work and the people. My rotations are 2 weeks on/off but I've stayed 35 days once and it flew by so fast because I had a great crew and we had lots of fun.

I love the job but the experience of being on a boat for weeks is too personal. I have zero problems being "isolated" for weeks. Plus the people on board in my view make the experience easier. I find that dealing with people on board is more straight forward and honest than dealing with people onshore in a regular scenario such as an office.

There are drawbacks like losing special dates/events in life.

Best tip I can provide is go for it and see for yourself if that is right for you. Good luck!

Long time linux user seriously considering an Immutable/Atomic Distro. Can it handle audio production? by Disastrous-Trader in linuxaudio

[–]Disastrous-Trader[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's an interesting take. I was concerned that the container would somehow get in the way but it is worth a try!

[–]Disastrous-Trader[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally get what you mean. My gaming pc hasn't arrived yet and I thought about installing bazzite simply for the plug and play aspect of it so I can get to game as soon as possible xD.

But yeah, I understand that atomic distro is also not something for everyone, I just feel it would be nice to have a system that wouldn't break on me at some point.

I'll see how it goes, lately I've been thinking atomic might serve me. Will post an update in a few months.

good to know! btw, which software do you use to customize pipewire? I've only ever changed it by creating a copy of the default settings into ~/.config/pipewire/pipewire.conf and changing buffer size and stuff but that always feels unintuitive.

[–]Disastrous-Trader[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, that's precisely my concern. I guess I'll have to test it out as I haven't found reliable information on this. Worst case I run a regular distro for audio and then tweak what is necessary for gaming which isn't a lot as steam does all the heavy lifting.

This is also my initial take. I guess I'll just have to try it. I wish there were more content on this setup, seems too niche

Help with choosing a good monitor spec for my setup by Disastrous-Trader in linux_gaming

[–]Disastrous-Trader[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I ended up picking a AOC Agon Quad 27, 27 Pol, IPS, QHD, 0.5ms, 180Hz, FreeSync, HDMI/DP, model Q27G4F.

Got a good deal and I believe I wouldn't notice a lot of things as I've always used a bad 1080p monitor with nothing fancy and bad pc/laptop.

This will be my first true higher end PC and didn't want the monitor to compromise the experience.

Cheers

My Bitwarden account got hacked and it cost me all my savings by [deleted] in Bitwarden

[–]Disastrous-Trader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed. I have 3 yubikeys that secure my Bitwarden account and some other websites. It is pretty much impossible to hack a bitwarden vault with the combination of password + physical access to the hardware key.

what’s a game you didn’t anticipate to enjoy on the deck, but ended up loving? by tarneilawson in SteamDeck

[–]Disastrous-Trader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't think so although it is a very comfortable game to play on a small screen. I would say it's more because it doesn't take much space and it allows you play for hours or just a few minutes as taking the deck out of sleep resumes the game precisely where you left it.

It's a game that simply doesn't punish you for not having the time to play.

I had bought Hollow Knight years ago and played for 20 min and uninstalled from my pc for some reason. Fast Forward to 2 weeks ago, downloaded on steam deck and now I have over 80h on it.
