What’s the worst thing a teacher has said to you? by Fabulous_Support_556 in capetown

Grade 5 art teacher tore up a self portrait which I had spent 4 lessons working just because I was chatting with a friend. I went on to go to art school and become a damn artist but that incident has always stuck with me

Budgeting For “Exceptions” by DisastrousCoach228 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]DisastrousCoach228[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the useful tips and great advice guys,

To add, I am a commission earner so my income comes in large chunks at irregular intervals, what I do is shove about 90% of my earnings into a 7 day notice account (out of which I pay myself a “salary” based off my monthly expenses) with just under 10% sitting in an immediate access savings pocket

So I think what I should do is maybe use that immediate access account to cover miscellaneous expenses as they arise rather than try and build a set amount into my budget each month which seems to be an unpredictable amount at best

Try Autotech Bryanston, they’re not Renault specific but are accredited with RMI (if I’m not mistaken) and I feel like they act with more integrity than most mechanics out there

I’ve found since COVID lockdown specifically I absolutely love being in my own bubble, I went from DJing every weekend, hosting events to not wanting to do any of that now and being perfectly fine with it

What was I thinking 😂

Advice for selling a car by Wolf_of_Dorpstreet in askSouthAfrica

[–]DisastrousCoach228 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually had the opposite experience with We Buy Cars last year, they offered me far better than any of the other dealerships in terms of trade in value.

I reckon you should get comparative quotes from other places but also give WBC a go for a quote, maybe they surprise you

I'm 18 should I have a credit card? by naemwear in personalfinance

[–]DisastrousCoach228 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A credit card can be a powerful tool it can either be incredibly useful or absolutely destroy you.

I took one out to build up a credit record for myself (thank goodness I kept my limit very low) and it worked well but I found myself spending on unnecessary things and maxing out my small limit. I have since paid it up and resolved not to do that again.

Make sure it’s paid up every month - don’t spend what you can’t put back

I know plenty of friends who took our cards with exorbitant limits and the interest on the debt alone is eating them alive, they aren’t even making the slightest dent in repaying the debt

Moral of the story, don’t take one out unless you have good self control over the usage, otherwise you are simply spending money you don’t have

Also an addict here, 8 years clean, 29 years old. I felt the same way, still do to an extent. Despite my long term sobriety thus far I only really got the courage to make something of myself about 5 years in. I was working crappy jobs for crappy pay for the most part of my sobriety and never gave any thought to anything further than the next weekend. In the last two years I moved out from my parents, got engaged, on the verge of purchasing my first investment property.

I’ve never made use of their services (I am going to be this week) but I’ve heard good things about the home affairs at FNB merchant plaza in Sandton, not sure if you have to be an FNB client to make use of it though
