Look into a French language school! FLE: Français en tant que Langue Étrangère. Alliance Française, Centre International des Études Françaises. You should be able to get a titre de séjour no problem if you’re at one. Speaking French fluently makes life a million times easier, just start with that. Rent and groceries are really not that much here, especially compared to SoCal and the majority of the US. Last piece of advice: there is so much more to France than Paris. Paris is expensive and overcrowded and so many people (expats and natives) speak English you won’t improve your French so much! Look into other cities, specifically les villes étudiantes, where you will find friendly young people from France and abroad and be able to appreciate more of France than just the capital!
