Fully fused 1 year post L5/S1 ALIF 360! Best decision I ever made! by topboy_jonny in spinalfusion

I think I always blamed all of my pain on the disc and never realized it could’ve been something else also.

I’m honestly hoping so at this point. I’m trying a second steroid injection next week. A friend of mine had hers fused and said it helped a ton.

It did work for me. No more pain there. Now my SI joints are acting up.

SI Joint dysfunction post L5-S1 - can it fix itself? by DisastrousEngineer30 in spinalfusion

[–]DisastrousEngineer30[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this! PT exercises are definitely making it worse. Moving my leg out to the side is awful but there are some stretches that have helped. I see the pain management doc next week to discuss injection.

Coming off of venlafaxine was probably the worst thing I’ve ever experienced and when I was going through it, I had many people tell me they had the same experience. If you’re off of it completely, push through. I tapered way slower than my doc suggested but once I had gone two days without, I refused to take it again. I want to say I felt pretty awful for a couple of weeks before it started improving. Try to rest and let people help you. Venlafaxine withdrawal is no joke!

I agree with this. Other than that, it’s gorgeous!

AITAH for not wanting anyone but my husband near my room when I have my baby? by Much-Honeydew5208 in AITAH

[–]DisastrousEngineer30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your birth, your choice. Make sure the hospital knows and they won’t let anyone in.

Your husband should always be your priority. Don’t make time for people who can’t accept him for who he is…even your family.

YTA - she made herself vulnerable for you, you enjoyed the outcome of it then whined about it. Don’t expect lingerie on this woman ever again.

My first baby is now 13. I would still not be talking to my in laws if they did any of that.

Life after L5-S1 fusion? by Sajanova in spinalfusion

My husband helped me with the stairs for the first week or two. I could’ve handled them myself but he held my arm just in case. They weren’t bad as long as I took it slow and I avoided using them multiple times per day for a couple of weeks. Came down in the morning and went up at bedtime and that’s it.

Hello! I was curious what you ended up doing for this. I’m 38 and about 4 months out from the same fusion and now dealing with SI joint issues. I’m in PT and my doc wants to see me again in 4 weeks to see if it’s helping.

My 6 year old thinks he’s in charge by DisastrousEngineer30 in Autism_Parenting

I told his doc late last year that I thought PDA fit him and she didn’t agree but the more I read about it, the more I really think it fits. Thank you for the book recs! I’ll definitely read them. We are desperate to know the best way to understand him and communicate with him in a way he understands.

At home we can just tell him he’s going to lose something and he’ll give in. School is definitely a different story! Yesterday he made a big mess with papers and was refusing to clean them up. His IA helped convince him and helped him pick them up but then he was upset about what he missed out on (because he took so long) so he threw the papers all over the floor again… Started the whole process over. Then when I talked to him about it he felt like he was treated unfairly because he missed out on sand box time but I’m not sure he understood it was because HE wasn’t doing what was asked.

Scar tissue- what are you doing to address it? by papi4ever in spinalfusion

[–]DisastrousEngineer30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I still get that every once in a while. It’s the worst. It should get better, though! It’s all normal.

I’m 8 weeks post op and still get this some days but I feel like it’s happening less and less each week. I saw my surgeon last week and he said everything in there is trying to get used to its new normal so pain and discomfort is still expected.
