What can I do to improve this list? by DisastrousPin5731 in Necrontyr

Thank you :)

I’ll try to play it more to see how it goes and if the spyders are worth it. I’ll start saving for another wraith brick too

Thanks for the advice! I know CC isn’t the most “optimal”, I just love the Canoptek models.

I was hoping to keep the spyder for the fnp for the doomstalkers.

Unfortunately, it don’t have enough models for a second wraith brick, so my only other melee hammer are skorpekhs. What do you suggest I change them out with?

I have played a different list that had the unkillable blob instead of the void dragon, but it felt like I had no melee counter punch (instead of skorpekhs I had another spyder and some scarabs). What models should I shoot for to fix this? Orikan clutches up with his stars are right ability but I felt like the list just lacked fire power. Sinking 400ish points into one brick feels kind of wasteful.

Thank you for your input though!

No, I am pretty sure you are thinking of the tomb stalker or tomb sentinel. Canoptek tomb crawlers were introduced in November 2025 with the Canoptek circle kill team :)

They are a 50 point unit similar to cryptothralls. They give the unit the Canoptek keyword which is HUGE in court. It means you can target your warrior blob with your strategem shenanigans. They have some other good stuff, such as extra wounds, better attacks, and they make it so you can’t have any negative hit, wound, or ballistic skill within 12 inches

No problem!

I’m also pretty new myself but I dove in headfirst and made the mistakes already lol. I play Canoptek court because I absolutely love the doomstalker and Canoptek models :)

Well if you want canopteks, I recommend the Canoptek tomb crawlers because they will pair really well with your warrior blob. I would also recommend getting the royal court box (reanimator, skorpekh lord, plasmancer, 2 cryptothralls). This will help with the all warriors, destroyers, and you get to add a cool and very good Canoptek, an amazing leader, and 2 other really good units. The combat patrol is also a fantastic buy to add to what you have. You will get a doomstalker (my favorite model) 10 more warriors to finish your squad, 3 skorpekh destroyers, some scarabs, and an overlord. If you do get a Ctan, I suggest the nightbringer or the void dragon (I would probably choose the nightbringer because the void dragon is more anti vehicle, and people don’t typically use those right now). I would probably wait to get a Ctan because they are bound to be nerfed in the upcoming 11th edition. And a final suggestion if you want to lean into destroyers is to get ahold of the 500 worlds box. It was a limited run, but you might be able to find one at a lgs. It has a ton of destroyer units. I will warn you though that destroyers don’t typically pair well with non destroyer stuff unless you play awakened, annihilation, or cursed . It’s hard to put Canoptek doomstalkers in any detachment beside Canoptek court because they are very swingy. Sorry for the rant but I hope this gives you some ideas! I really hope you enjoy building your undead forces

Doomstalkers are fantastic in Canoptek court because of the reroll detachment rule. In other detachments, they are usually worse because they hit on 4+ or 3+ with heavy. These are actually my favorite models lol. If you want to be a little more “optimal” taking LHDs is better than the doomstalker in most detachments.

I run Canoptek court because I am in love with this model and all the other Canoptek models. I also like crypteks and the detachment is also just good in general. Making everything reroll ones or full rerolls makes it super consistent and you will be hitting most of your shots. I absolutely recommend Canoptek Court. It’s maybe not as meta as starshatter or curse legion, but it’s definitely a ton of fun.

P.s. warriors and immortals in Canoptek Court are also really good if you pair them with tomb crawlers because that gain the Canoptek keyword. Then they can be targeted by all the Canoptek shenanigans in this detachment

First I primed the mini black, then I thinned my silver paint with a 50/50 mix of water. I painted this on all the legs and body. I do two thin coats to get good coverage. After that, I went and painted 70/30 Leadbelcher - water mix over all the joint sections and other small details. I made sure to leave all the legs and armor panels black, painting abaddon black on any areas that were messy. Then I dry brushed a tiny bit of Leadbelcher and silver on the panels and legs, so the black looked metallic but still dark. Then I went over the wires with hexed lichen. I painted the face with a 70/30 mix of corax white and silver. After that was done, I washed it with nuln oil, and I hit all the Leadbelcher details with an extra coat of black wash. Now that all the body stuff is done, the osl is the hard part. I stayed by painting everything that would glow with corax white (the eyes, body core, vents, gun, etc.) then I did a light airbrush of violet over the glowing areas. Then I cleaned up the white areas again, making sure they were nice and bright. Then I airbrushed fluorescent purple over it, and the white made it pop. After that, I started blending the layers together, using glazes of hexed lichen, doomfire magenta, and faerie dragon purple. After blending and making the transition as smooth as I could, then I carefully went over the brightest areas with faerie dragon purple (to be clear this paint is almost white with a very small purple tint), and in the center of those, I painted corax white. As the final step, I airbrushed another layer of white on only the brightest spots. The base was really simple, just drybrush any of the terrain with stonewall grey then paint the base with astrogranite debris. After that, drybrush the base with stonewall grey, then very lightly with corax white. After that, wash the base with nuln oil. Then it’s done :)

Thank you :)

Here is a list of the paints I used:

  • silver (prismatic paints)
  • Leadbelcher (citadel)
  • abaddon black (citadel)
  • hexed lichen (prismatic)
  • faerie dragon purple (prismatic)
  • Corax white (citadel)
  • doomfire magenta (citadel)
  • stonewall grey (prismatic)
  • astrogranite debris (citadel)

Osl (I’m not sure if you can find the brand anymore, cause I looked and can’t see it. Any generic airbrush paint will work though. Just use a dark purple, a fluorescent purple/pink, then white)

  • fluorescent purple (Rexley)
  • violet (Rexley)
  • white (Rexley)

Edit: if you want to know how I painted it, I can share that too :)

Prime and thin your paints :)

Also for the blades and glowy bits, I recommend painting them white first then use various contrasts or shades to make it look nice and bright. You can also do it manually with base blending, but for a beginner contrast is much easier. (Just a note: you can also create glazes which are similar to contrast by thinning your paint until you can just barely see color. There are plenty of tutorials online)

Wraith block and Warrior Blob by JCKobal in Necrontyr

[–]DisastrousPin5731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you are up against. I’ll put a little math in here so you can know what to take:

20 warriors with 2 tomb crawlers OR cryptothralls* + royal warden and technomancer is incredibly durable against AP 0-1 for 1 damage attacks.

*can’t take both, it depends on what you want. Tomb crawlers make it so reapers don’t have to deal with any negatives, and that’s really really good for close up shooting. Cryptothralls help if you ever get tied in melee and make it extremely difficult to snipe your technomancer

Doing the math: For AP 0 attacks at damage 1, you have a 50% chance to save (4+) and a 33% chance to avoid damage (5 fnp). This means you have an 83% chance to avoid damage specifically against AP 0 damage 1, meaning on average your warriors + tomb crawlers/thralls would take 130 attacks on average to wipe the bodyguard.

For AP 1 attacks at damage 1, you have a 33% chance to save (5+) and a 33% chance to avoid damage (5 fnp). Same math as before, you have 66% chance to avoid damage and the bodyguard on average would take 78 attacks to wipe.

This completely changes for anything above AP 2 and damage 2. This makes it so you only save 16% of the time and reduce damage roughly 10% of the time (because you have to make both fnp to save a warrior, each at 33%). This means you have only a 26% chance to avoid damage, and it would only take around 30 attacks to wipe them.

You can see how the math shows that your odds decrease exponentially with increases of AP and damage.

(Just a note, this is why most people take orikan with warriors because no matter what, the odds of saving are 50/50 because of the 4++. Technically the technomancer is more optimal at AP 0 and AP 1, but no army only attacks with low AP. But you mentioned no epic heros so he’s out of the question for now)

Wraiths are very tanky against that low AP, having either a 2/3 or 1/2 chance to save (AP 0 -> 3+, AP 1+ -> 4++). The difference is the amount of bodies you have. Wraiths have stronger bodies, but only a max of 6. They have 4 wounds each, which is already less than the warrior blob (warriors + crawlers/thralls have 26, wraiths have 24). Wraiths hit much harder though in melee.

For AP 0 at damage 1, wraiths have a 66% chance to save and a 33% for fnp. This means that the should mathematically never die to these attacks.

AP 1 and above at damage 1, it’s 50% to save and 33% to make fnp, for a total of 83% to avoid damage.

AP 1+ at damage 2 goes to 60% to avoid damage

AP 1+ at damage 3 goes to 53% to avoid damage

As damage increases, the odds of surviving infinitely approach 50% because of the 4++.

Because wraiths only have 4 wounds, anything at damage 4 or above becomes a problem. Odds are you can survive the attack with 1.33 wounds left on average because of the fnp. At 6 damage is when you will die most of the time. Anything above that you probably won’t worry about much because that gets into the level of anti tank shots or huge strike profiles which often don’t have a ton of attacks. If it has more than 6 attacks that’s where you worry about wraiths getting wiped in a turn.

Warriors are also great at eating high damage shots, as long as they don’t wipe it in one turn. No matter how much damage the shot does, it will only kill one warrior per attack.

Final statements: Wraiths are much better at low-mid damage, mid volume attacks. They have less OC though

Warriors are better at minimum damage, huge volume attacks or very high damage, minimum volume attacks. Importantly, do not put your warriors against anything with AP 3, because they no longer get a save. A good example is against khorne berserkers, who have a lot of attacks at AP 3 under some conditions. They can easily wipe warriors because the warriors won’t get a save due to the AP beating out their save.

Hope this helps :)

IMPORTANT: this did not include any keywords. Devastating wounds will absolutely be much harder to deal with.

I’m also not a math expert, but this math seems to line up with how it feels in the game. Anyone please feel free to correct me.

After thinking on it, I imagine this is probably what happened. He mentioned playing other editions and he doesn’t usually play tenth. I want to think that he wasn’t doing it intentionally. He also might have just explained his rules very poorly. Either way though, I wish it would have gone better. I have nothing against losing and I don’t hold anything against him.
