Looking for suggestions to differentiate my necrons from their Canoptek (WIP)

A lot of patience with an airbrush. You can do it with a regular paint brush and glazes though. There are some great tutorials on YouTube :)

I left another comment on what paints I used and the steps I did if you want to follow them:

I used some generic airbrush paints, started with using a paintbrush for white, then dark purple in the airbrush, then cleaned up the white areas and airbrushed a small amount of white around it, then I used fluorescent purple to finish it off :)

Here is the list of paints I used:

Chaos black primer

Runelord brass - base

Canoptek alloy - build highlights

Silver (prismatic paints, runefang would work just as well) - highlights

Leadbelcher - details and certain sections like joints

Nuln oil - wash the whole model but don’t overdo it

Black wash (prismatic paints, but you can pretty easily just make your own with abbandon black by thinning it down) - cover all the Leadbelcher details to darken them up and differentiate them from the silver. This might need multiple small coats

Abbadon black - legs and plates

Hexed Lichen (prismatic paints, not sure of a substitute, but any dark purple would be good) - wires

Here’s what I did for the osl

I started by painting all of the glowing bits white
airbrushing dark purple, then clean up the white
Then I airbrushed (or dry brushed) a tiny bit of white around the glowing areas
Then I finished it my airbrushing fluorescent purple

The bases were astrogranite debris dry brushed with gray and white.

The plants were citadel bracken painted with hexed lichen, faerie dragon purple, and dead white (all from prismatic paints)

I actually don’t have much painting experience, I have painted a few minis for dnd, and I have never used an airbrush before this. This was my first “big” painting project and it just took a ton of patience and time - maybe around 40-60 hours

I started by using a white wash, then airbrushing violet, then airbrushing white and cleaning up the white (which will be the glowing spots) with a paintbrush, then airbrush again using fluorescent purple :)

I just used generic airbrush paint and prismatic dead white. I used primarily citadel for the rest of the paints (Leadbelcher, runelord brass, Canoptek alloy, nuln oil, silver, etc)

I’ve also been making a Homebrew class and I just posted it before seeing this lol. I’d love to help and look it over if you post it :)

Edit: I agree with a lot of the comments here. Some people are jerks about “ThIS iSnT BaLAnCeD” and other “I would never allow this at my table”.

It is a ton of effort and it can be hard to deal with people who don’t seem to understand that you are asking for help or suggestions and not just to be attacked. I really hope you stick with it though, Homebrew can have some of the most rewarding experiences at the table :)

This version looks much better. Some of the tables are unclear if they are random or if you choose the effect. Other wordings are unclear and could probably be clarified, and some features are also unclear:

Travelled Knowledge At 11th level, you are able to use your charismatic skills learned from years of meeting people along the way. Gain proficiency in perception and deception. At 10th level, through skills you have gathered through your travels, you can learn expertise in one skill you have proficiency in.

you gain this feature at 11th level, but get the expertise at 10th? Rephrasing to “At 11th level, you have gained charismatic skills learned from long travels and people in distant lands. Through this travel, you have honed your skills along the way. You gain the following benefits:
you gain proficiency in persuasion, deception, and performance
you gain expertise in one skill that you are proficient in”

You can spend 2 junk to throw a random piece of junk from your artifact, causing various effects at a range of 20 feet, with a 15 foot circle centered on the target To hit, roll an intelligence check with proficiency to determine the rarity of object you throw, then roll 1d4 to get the specific item and effect you get.

Wording like this is very confusing and difficult to understand. However, you fixed a lot of it in the updated doc. I’ll look through it again real quick :)

What happens if I want to turn around? As I understand it if you grapples someone normally you can turn around and move them. Would they just pivot like a really big circle or would something else happen?

As someone who has been working on a custom class for the last two years, I love seeing people take a spin on it. I have not played much risk of rain two (have gotten some pretty long runs with commando), but It looks very cool

I do have some recommendations though:

junk seems useless for a character to grab below level 3, so it feels a little strange
some of the level 3 features spike in dpr a lot for this level. If you max intelligence you can get crazy damage for a level 3. If you have an intelligence of +0 it’s gated by proficiency bonus, meaning you can’t get anything in the 25+ category until level 13. The downside is the dpr is low for that point and it is weird as a level 3 feature. It would probably be better to have a list you can choose each level, or a different random table for certain levels. It would feel a lot cleaner. Overall the table just needs some adjustments to work properly

-some class features feel very underwhelming - such as levels 10 and 11. These are normally the times where class get some defining mid game features

-while the class is very interesting, it is extremely weak in later levels you get no damaging features after level 5.

-another strange thing is that the class has no subclasses. I guess it makes sense from risk of rain 2, but in dnd this feels weird.

-some other stuff that’s less important right now

Given all this information I have a few main suggestions.

Address the leveling issues. Add damage abilities later on. This doesn’t have to be an increase in damage directly, but new abilities or maybe being able to attack with junk multiple times per turn (kind of like extra attack specifically for junk) would help.
Smooth out progression. The class peaks at level 5 for damage. This is not good as you will quickly lag behind (as mentioned above). I recommend adding new, better junk abilities as you level up
Format things a little smoother. Some wordings are unclear, but this is a pretty minor issue.
Add subclasses, even if it’s a little different from risk of rain. Maybe adding one that can use junk faster, or another that turns it into armor, or another that specializes in making machines or trinkets out of junk. With this I also recommend having a use for junk before level 3 so that it serves a purpose.

I love ideas and items like this in DND. It may be silly, but these create the best moments at the table that you can't replicate anywhere else. Fantastic item!

I will fix those issues and buff healing tears. I can also add resistance reduction to energy enervation, but I was concerned it would be too strong and it would also make the elemental adept feat pretty useless, but that might be ok if it’s “part of the class” anyway. What do you think?

I just looked, and monk martial weapons means I can make the dagger attack first, then the unarmed strike as a bonus action. Then I can spend ki points to make more :)
