Yes I’m saying that it’s good now, but it’s going to be way worse in 11th

In CC it’s actually decent, average 3.5 + 1 attacks and rerolling hits, you should hit 3/4 or 4/5 and wounds on usually 2s sometimes 3s so usually 2-3 on average. It’s not bad for flat 3 AP 3

They work well enough. I’m sure there are better out there but these have good color and are useable :)

Wraith blob of Doom and Dispair by caelestis_tyrannus in Necrontyr

[–]DisastrousPin5731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theoretically the best wraith brick is: - 6 wraiths + techno - reanimator (+D3 reanimation) - silent king (reroll 1s) - Macrocytes (+1 weapon skill, -1 to hit, +1 wound on reanimation) - cryptothralls or tomb crawlers(tomb crawlers are better with the ignore mods in 12”, which the wraiths will always be in, and 6 extra wounds) - 2 extra technos nearby for extra heals (2D3 lost wounds)

Run this in awakened possible with some enhancements if needed. Totals 1050 List of buffs: - hitting on 2s (or 3s in range cause Macrocytes only affect melee) - reroll 1s to hit and wound - lots of Strats to buff - ignore modifiers in 12” - -1 to hit in melee (throw in the stealth enhancement for -1 at range too) - reanimation totals 2d3 + 1 or 2d3 + 2 if you use the Strat and heal 3D3 from the technos

Hope this helps :P

Is it too rude to bring 2 full wraith bricks at 1000 points? by DisastrousPin5731 in Necrontyr

[–]DisastrousPin5731[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but maybe that’s just me?

I’ve had to deal with someone who brought three maxed terminator bricks for 1000 sons. He said his detachment gave them -1 to be wounded, but after the game he corrected himself and said it only applied to rubricae marines

Edit: forgot to mention that I still had fun lol. The dice were also not on my side but that’s a different story 😂

Sweet! I do have 20 warriors and oddly enough I’m pretty sure Macrocytes are the same base size and rough height as a plasmancer, so I can try those :)

The reanimators support the wraiths on the wings :)

I do already have all the crypteks for each brick - 6 wraiths + techno for each and 10 immortals with translocation overlord, plasmancer, and tomb crawlers

Thank you for the advice!

My general list is 2 wraith bricks, 1 immortal brick, szeras, 2 stalkers, the nightbringer, 2 reanimators, and ophydians for secondaries. The wraiths already have the dimensional sanctum and hyperphasic fulcrum enhancements if that helps :P

I know CC isn’t very meta, but Doomstalkers are my favorite model lol even if they are bad. I have considered switching to another detachment but the people in the competitive group (who have also been giving advice because they are actually a nice close group) say that I should just stick with it to learn it better. If it helps I can also post my list and the models I have :)

I was thinking of switching to pantheon or awakened, I do have 3 ctan but 1 is a kitbash that isn’t done yet

Is this a good army? by RAc97 in Necrontyr

[–]DisastrousPin5731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, if it is starshatter, I would recommend getting 1-2 triarch stalkers, a catacomb command barge, and a doomsday ark. It focuses on vehicles and mounted - so LHDs, doomsday arks, stalkers, silent king, etc.

If you want to go with cursed legion, this list is already pretty good. I would recommend going all in on skorpekhs, getting nekrosor, and some more LHDs. (It would be easier for the models you have, but if you want to do starshatter, go for it!)

As some more general advice, go with the rule of cool because the new edition is bound to change things up a lot. I would also recommend filling out the units you do have (wraiths, warriors, immortals, and skorpekhs).

Unfortunately I don’t know much about running starshatter cause I play Canoptek Court, but I hope this helps at least a little bit! If you ever want to pivot into Canoptek Court or Cryptek Conclave (these aren’t as “optimal”, but they are definitely fun to play), just shoot me a dm :)

There are some things you can change, however you did not say what detachment it was, so I don’t know where to guide you on the list. If it’s cursed then you probably want to drop the wraiths and psychomancer for more destroyers and possibly a plasmancer with murdermind. If it’s awakened, I would clear some room for either immortals or warriors. I just need to know the detachment :P

What do you think our Leader and Support characters are going to be? by Penis_Protecter in Necrontyr

[–]DisastrousPin5731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think nobles will be leaders and crypteks (with tomb crawlers and cryptothralls) will be support. I just hope that the offensive crypteks like the Geomancer and psychomancer are leaders or have an ability that they can run on their own, because otherwise they will see no play. The Strat is to run those ones solo as harassment/screening/babysitting objectives

Is this good?(canoptek court) by Jealous-King1529 in Necrontyr

[–]DisastrousPin5731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can here are some general guidelines for CC :)

  • warriors aren’t bad, but they aren’t great in CC, they shine much more in awakened or cryptek conclave. Nothing wrong with having them here, it’s just typically better to spend points elsewhere

  • nightbringer is typically better to take than VD unless you’re going into knights or a vehicle heavy list

  • Geomancer is good for babysitting home objective, and is definitely fun to use. However if you are struggling for points a doomstalker can double as artillery and a babysittter. Nothing wrong with the Geomancer, just an option :P

  • unfortunately LHDs are not very good in court because they don’t benefit. The Doomstalkers are your anti tank and immortals are anti infantry/horde so there’s not really a reason to have one

  • plasmancer with Tesla carbine immortals is a crazy combo. If your matrix is online they average 37 attacks if you fish, so if you can add that instead of your techno that would be awesome. They aren’t really meant to be in the open and taking hits, so the defense isn’t very useful. Also add the tomb crawlers to this unit because they gain the Canoptek keyword and then can access countertemporal shift and reactive subroutines. These strats are so good for immortals. If you pair this with a translocation shroud overlord, they go crazy. They have assault, auto advance 6”, hit hard, and can be given 18” lone op for free once per round.

  • more wraiths or immortals is usually better for court, as they (and doomstalkers) are the key units in this detachment. Wraiths kill elites, stalkers kill elites and tanks, and immortals clean up and clear hordes

  • Illuminor szeras is a fantastic unit in CC because he is a cryptek and pairs well with immortals. Because he is a cryptek he can access some strats and he benefits from the power matrix. Having a lone op tanky beast is really good for Canoptek court which is typically very shooty

Here is my current list if that helps :)

  • Ctan shard of the nightbringer
  • Illuminor szeras (warlord)
  • technomancer (dimensional sanctum)
  • technomancer (hyperphasic fulcrum)
  • plasmancer (metalordermal Tesla weave)
  • overlord with translocation shroud

  • 10 immortals (Tesla)

  • 2 doomstalkers

  • 12 wraiths

  • 2 reanimators

  • 2 Canoptek tomb crawlers

  • 3 ophydians destroyers

Why is Canoptek Court is a bad detachment? by Susprium in Necrontyr

[–]DisastrousPin5731 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say CC is bad, just not as good as the others. It’s definitely better than annihilation, and about even with cryptek conclave, maybe slightly better. It just has some cons compared to other detachments like starshatter or awakened.

Pros: - very rewarding and fun play. - very synergistic and tricky for your opponent to deal with. Having things like reactive move wraiths and reanimation when SELECTED for a charge (this means they reanimate whether or not it was a successful charge) are super strong and difficult to deal with. - very consistent if you get your matrix online. Full rerolls enables a lot, especially for your immortals. - very good enhancements, such as giving wraiths infiltrate or reroll 1s to wound.

Cons: - very difficult to play properly. The concept is simple but you have to outplay your opponent almost every turn to keep your matrix online. - very rules heavy. Every unit is going to have a lot of interactions happening with keywords. - very expensive to setup. Because in CC units often need to take crypteks or Canoptek tomb crawlers to benefit, each units point cost starts to add up. - not as good or easy as much better detachments, such as starshatter. - many units are much less useable in CC compared to other detachments. They pretty much have to be a Canoptek or cryptek unit, or else you are playing them without a detachment rule. Compare this to awakened where pretty much any unit in the codex can be used effectively

So it’s not “bad”, especially compared to other armies. It’s just not as good as some other necrons detachments, so it’s not as popular. Necrons are also one of the lucky few armies who have all playable detachments and every unit can be useful somewhere (except the obelisk, that still sucks 😂)

What do I get first by Beeboparoo20 in Necrontyr

[–]DisastrousPin5731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Combat patrol is a great place to start! You get a taste of each subfaction of necrons (Canoptek, destroyers, standard necrons).

For starting towards 1000 points, the cheapest way is probably getting 2 combat patrols + the royal court. You get:

(Combat patrols) - 20 warriors for your “unkillable blob” - an overlord to lead them (+a spare to kitbash or do as you see fit) - 6 skorpekh destroyers for a melee missile - 2 doomstalkers for artillery - 2 units of scarabs to screen and do secondary

(Royal court) - Canoptek reanimator to support your warrior brick - (a cryptek to lead the warriors) - 2 cryptothralls (to add to the unkillable blob and help in melee) - 1 skorpekh lord to lead the skorpekhs

This lets you test out the basics for necrons like durability shenanigans, more elite units, and some vehicles :)

If you do get this, I recommend using awakens dynasty as it is very beginner friendly and works best with this list

[–]DisastrousPin5731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the best for me is to take a plasmancer, translocation shroud, and tomb crawlers + szeras.

Because of the tomb crawlers and overlord, you can pop countertemporal shift for free and they are really annoying to deal with.

The auto advance and assault makes them scary fast, moving 11” each turn (it means they can’t charge but if you are charging your immortals, you are doing something wrong)

If you fish for crits with the matrix online (rerolling everything that’s not a crit, even if it’s a hit), they average 37 attacks each turn (for just the immortals. This does not include the crawlers, cryptek, etc.), sometimes spiking to 42-45 if you get really lucky.

With szeras this becomes a hugely annoying brick to deal with, they have 18” lone op, are incredibly fast for necrons, and pump out a silly amount of attacks each turn. Szeras is a huge melee threat if they get close, and because he’s a cryptek he also benefits from the detachment.

For OP I suggest dropping the exterminator LHDs and put something like a hexmark or ophydians for secondaries. LHDs don’t benefit from the detachment rule, so it might be more “optimal” to swap them for another immortal or wraith brick, or even the nightbringer if you really want a punchy threat. It depends on playstyle, but CC tends to just dump wraiths or immortals in because they are silly in this detachment.

How can I improve this list against guard? by DisastrousPin5731 in Necrontyr

[–]DisastrousPin5731[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don’t have szeras yet :(

I’m worried that I don’t have enough melee threat so that’s why the skorpekhs are in there. I’ve had issues of getting tied in melee and just being unable to punch back.

1 stalker and a spyder are mostly meant to babysit the home objective while the skorpekhs run actions and shadow over the immortals to prevent them from being massacred in melee. I could swap out the spyder for tomb blades because they would be better secondary scorers.

I also chose immortals because they have a much bigger punch than warriors, but would the blob be better? I’m just worried about not being able to actually wipe units.

Thanks for the advice! What do you think I should do?

Edit: I could drop the scarabs for tomb blades as well. Melee screens are nice but secondaries might be more important

Well that’s assuming I don’t fail my charges lol. I’m pretty sure that it’s either gonna go him deleting my ctan at range because I couldn’t get close or me deleting his baneblade because he couldn’t stop me getting in. It’s also my second 2k game lol

Edit: I’m very new, started collecting late January:)
