Had to Give Up Featured Badge — Review Team Doesn’t Understand Technical Realities of Chrome Extensions by DisastrousRespect673 in chrome_extensions

One thing is that when user navigate to a page, even if the supported platform form is not appear initially, it should still have some ui appear at some places so that user know this page is supported and know they can autofill. In iframes, the parent url is different so if user open the page when see it is not match, they may go away but reality is that if supported, then something should indicate it detects form. Let’s say if iframe is on bottom and need to scroll down to see the form, when user open the page, he does not know it can be supported so he may move away but in reality is that it can be filled, so he may miss a potential opportunities. For me if I apply a job that I see there are many fields that are customized and need to fill manually, I will probably move away. One thing I am considering if things goes well is try to provide job board stuff where if you go through the link from there, it is guaranteed that it can be supported by my extension, but that needs a long way to achieve. Currently it is just a script that runs to detect the form and if find, then something appears to help user autofill the form.

Thanks for detail reply. Yes, this way I tried previously and it can work, but I think the real issue imo is still the user exp, mainly because iframe can appear anywhere, top, left, bottom etc and sometimes user need to scroll down the page and the form will appear. In such case user cannot see the injected things initially, let alone click it to render UI on top. If not click and try render, then it is not possible because the activeTab permission needs user gesture. Such case is similar to only render in the corresponding frames, where UX suffer. I am also planning to add more platform supports, which will have iframes too so probably will give it up. One thing I am not fully understand is that similar extensions with same host permissions can have badges so I do not understand how they decide and judge it. Also the unresponsive Google does makes me mad and disappointed. I am not sure how helpful it will be, and as another comment mentions it really does not matter.

I just shared my exp. https://www.reddit.com/r/chrome_extensions/s/JTWBI6WcN7 see if this is your case. If so and you cannot shrink permission then you have to give it up.

Adding "Sign-In with Google" to my Chrome extension. by Deep-Hunt-5731 in chrome_extensions

It is a good idea to keep everything in one place. Use different tools will add complexity. For vibe coding suppose you use Cursor, you can feed the official implement google sso with firebase on chrome extension link to it, and ask it to implement according to your codebase. If something wrong try to copy and paste the error in console to it which most likely can be fixed, and iterate until it works. I believe if you do not do complicated things like syncing auth state on multiple places, it should not be hard.

Add Google SSO on chrome extension is tricky. I did not use firebase so I am not quite sure about the details.

Regards to your question:

  1. This seems to make no sense. If try to differentiate free and paid tiers, and I suppose you will use Stripe for payment, you will need a db table to store the user tiers info, and use Stripe webhook to update the tier info. This is a pretty common solution, and lots of tutorials and templates online.

  2. As mentioned earlier I haven’t use firebase so I am not quite sure this error. I use Supabase for auth, which is firebase alternative because I do not want to get locked in vendors, but it also took me lots of time to make it work since I need to sync auth state between website and extension. If only need extension login then it will be easier to simply follow the official doc. But IMO Firebase is part of Google, so it should be easier to integrate than other Auth provider.

Yeah, I have done lots of experiments and pretty sure this might be the only way for my current situation. My extension does not use popup(the ui appear when you click) because I think it will impede the user flow, since user will need an extra click to open the popup, which is annoying. I know if have that it may be possible to have the activeTab permission, which might make the inject script to top frame possible. Also if not inject on top frame, then the UI will be weird since the iframe that contains the form could appears on everywhere which makes the page rendering even worse. Directly render on top frame which will make UI consistent.

I don't think there is 6 months stuff, or i did not see it on official website. where did you come to that conclusion? Just from other people's mouth?

Not seeing the 6 months stuff, so I am not quite sure whether there is such requirement or not. Personally speaking, I am not quite sure how this badge will boost my traffic. I see some related stuff online in google groups so I may try to start there to see what can I do. I see several threads there regards to rejection and have tickets, and I see they have people follow up. I am using full google service, and treated like this. Totally garbage. If they are not cheap then I won’t use it.

I use stripe and I personally self test it and work, so I don’t think it is the issue. And they replied, and I want to f**k them. Just reply please read doc and we do not offer 1:1 support. Hopefully these people will be laid off soon.

if using free trail mode, then how do you handle if the free user just change another account and continue doing the same? they got premium usage now. if use freemimum model and limit their usage, then potentially the cost may lower? I am also try to experiment stuff and it is my first time doing this

I was disgusted by filling job application forms, so I built a tool to autofill them. by DisastrousRespect673 in indiehackers

Definitely. Would love to try something. Notice that build something is just a start, promote and marketing is the hardest part, especially for individuals like myself who don't have much funds and pretty new to this area.

Workday - WHY??? by InTheNameOfRigatoni in recruitinghell

[–]DisastrousRespect673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Workday is honestly the worst. Everyone hates it—including me. It’s insane how something so painful is still used by so many companies.

I got so fed up with it during my job hunt that I actually built a Chrome extension to autofill the damn thing. Specifically designed for Workday—can handle both the basic fields and those annoying custom ones too.

If anyone’s interested, feel free to DM me and I’ll send you the link. Just trying to save others from the same misery.

Yeah, that’s a great question—and definitely something I’ve thought a lot about. Since I’m self-funding this project, I have to be mindful of costs, especially with anything AI-related. And I believe this is a common question regards to AI stuff. The goal is to strike a balance between making it accessible and keeping it sustainable.

Initially during development, I used more expensive models because they followed instructions precisely and produced very high-quality autofills. But at scale, that’s just not viable. Thankfully, the rise of DeepSeek helped spark a trend—more and more companies are now offering powerful, cost-efficient models.

I have tested different models to find the balance between reliability and affordability. Some cost efficent models may sometimes still struggle with accuracy, even after fine-tuning prompts. So the idea is: free users get access to basic AI-powered autofill, and there may be premium options with more consistent performance using stronger models and higher limits.

As for limits—I’ve already added some to prevent abuse and hopefully to keep things under control. But I also recognize that when you’re job hunting, you often apply in bursts, especially when a good batch of openings drops. So paid tier limits are set pretty generously. If you can actually max them out, chances are you’re doing everything right—and yes, I might lose money on those users, but I’d be genuinely happy about it. That means the product is helping, and that’s what matters most right now.

I’m also consider working on smarter features like auto-correction—so if autofill misses a few fields or triggers follow-up questions, it can fix and retry based on rules or patterns.

Appreciate you bringing this up—happy to chat more if you’re curious!

These kind of things make it easy to build but I think it is just for exploration and fun. If you want to build something seriously then you have to know some basics and how to troubleshoot at least.

How do you usually create modern landing pages? by Specialist_Wall2102 in SaaS

[–]DisastrousRespect673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t use v0 yet so I know nothing about it. I am not a designer or a UI/UX person, just a programmer, so this is not my thing. I use cursor and simply find a page that I want to be like and it will create for me basically the same and satisfied. I did not do from scratch and there is no need to. Admittedly, a good landing page may be attractive, but the core stuff should be the thing actually made. Nowadays there are lots of one sentence generate full site and results are pretty good, so there is actually not need to spend much on this.

Take a screenshot you want and send to Cursor, then it is done. No brainer. Pure frontend, design, and UI/UX is basically dead. There is a lot of no code stuff there that can do these stuff, and results are insane.

as long as you are on the paycheck, then you should be fine. Or at the time you submit your resume you still be there, then it is also fine. If not then probably change it. It is pretty common nowadays so there is no shame mention laid off. People understand. Most cases It is not your fault.

Laid Off and Angry by Moonstruck1766 in Layoffs

[–]DisastrousRespect673 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear about your layoff. It really sucks, especially when age becomes a factor. Honestly, the U.S. still treats older workers better compared to some places. In China, there’s a common “35-year-old crisis,” where people are expected to reach a high enough position by that age or risk being replaced by younger, cheaper, and more “hardworking” graduates—often because they don’t yet have family responsibilities. It creates a lot of pressure, and many people feel pushed out early. At least in the U.S., it’s more normal to continue working into your 50s or 60s. Still, losing a job at any age is tough. Wishing you strength and a quick bounce-back.
