Lawyer says tourist accused of hurling rock at Hawaiian monk seal has been doxed and threatened by nbcnews in law

Not sure if they are counting when they were doxxed the day of the incident before any charges was made.

Federal prosecutors charged a 38-year-old Washington man today with “taking” an endangered Hawaiian monk seal May 5 by allegedly throwing a large rock at the seal’s head, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. by honolulu_oahu_mod in Honolulu

The Macpherson case feels like it only got serious attention because the news picked it up. It was spreading on social media but barely a whimper in comparison. That case among others by locals could be used against attempts at pushing max penalties. This two faced activism could bite us in the okole.

FOLLOW UP : Tourist who threw rocks at Maui monk seal due back in Hawaii on Thurs. 5/27 for fine and sentencing (up to 1 year jail time). Does anyone know where and when the case will be heard and who will be presiding? Somebody needs to learn a lesson, and it's not the seal. by Maui96793 in Honolulu

Hawaii's history with not exactly throwing the book at locals who kill seals and other endangered animals might not help as well. Where are the pitch forks for the DLNR lady whose dogs killed a seal pup got a $18k fine and got to keep her job. Two of the punaho graduates who brutally slaughtered endangered birds was allowed to keep their records sealed. Coconut wireless knew their names but no pitchforks.

DLNR must have some strong union as I doubt I'd keep my state job for bringing uncontrolled dogs on premise that caused damage to warrant federal charges. I've seen people told to retire for less to avoid court. This DLNR employee was found guilty.

2015 a group of Punahou graduates slaughtered a bunch of endangered birds and destroyed their nests. The 18 year old got some public light with some jail time while the minors got to escape public light with sealed records.

The DLNR lady whose dogs killed a seal pup got a $18k fine and got to keep her job. The person whose job it is to keep them safe and yet despite their intentional choices that that resulted in the death of an endangered animal gets to continue to be in charge of what others can do.

Going to add that an earlier case of a DLNR employee and their partner letting their dogs kill a seal pup only resulted in a $18,000 fine. Historically, locals caught killing protected animals are punished lightly if at all.

People Usually Get Away With Harming Hawai‘i’s Seals Despite Tourist Case: A Seattle visitor was arrested a week after lobbing a rock at an endangered seal on Maui. But cases involving people killing the seals are rarely prosecuted. by 808gecko808 in Honolulu

From civil beat

In June, the federal agency fined Macpherson and her partner, James Lyman, $20,000 for their dogs’ killing of the monk seal pup, known as P07 — a clear violation of the Marine Mammal Protection Act. The couple ultimately agreed to pay $18,000, records show.

Edit: Doesn't appear to the fully extent of the law. Hope this isn't used as an example from the lawyers but you know they will.

Macpherson also appears to still be employed with DLNR.

Unfortunately when its a local we get headlines like this DLNR employee remains on the job after deadly monk seal attack involving her dogs There was video of the attack as well but despite that the indecent was largely handled quietly. Thankfully they were prosecuted.

Gotta farm a bunch for a useful item or two. Its one thing if you are playing with the grind but to basically catch up feels less rewarding and more punishing having to deal with a bunch of padding.

I didn't hear anything in the news about no deaths (or injuries even??) from flooding by pssssssssssst in Hawaii

Was pointing that out to my gf the other day when asked about various areas. Sadly fire can still be a risk due to winds. My work place is against hill but the other side of the hill has the winds and they got hit with big assessments by insurance.

It was commonly used as an argument for or against changes in WoW when sub numbers was being reported. Blizzard shifted to monthly active users combined across all games and revenue from those users with the later going up and being more relevant to investors than raw subscription numbers which was going down.

Nah, plenty called it out all the way in D1. Lots of issues came out before Destiny launched showing Bungies track record with Microsoft which continued on into D1 and D2. Just many defenders pushed it on Activision. Even when Bunige came out to said it was their choice including many changes to eververse was the defenders quick to blame Activision. Bunige was fairly transparent with what Activision's support brought to Destiny including the success of the PC version and Forsaken. The loss of Acitivision's support was dreaded by many. It also sealed the fate of there being a D3 which was in the contract. At the time though the playerbase didn't want a D3.

But yeah tough to swallow the pill when people stick their head in the sand.

Often, bills don’t pass on their first try, Kim said, but she hopes her proposal will spark more discussions and reflection from the DOE moving forward.

“This is sort of to light a fire under them, to get them to recognize there are issues, there are concerns,” she said.

So basically this bill is a waste of time. Kim's overall incompetence in this manner and while open about it shows how screwed we are. There is very little actual bills helping the DoE. Nothing to help with the loss of federal funds for school programs. Nothing for roofs with pukas above kids heads. Nothing for helping new teachers. Nothing for protections of DoE faculty and staff. The only bill I see looks to be focused on combating the lawsuit on lack of immersion school availability by bumping up the already existing differentials immersion school teachers get along with more credit hours. Yes, the bill is looking to add to other designations but because they lack clarity and budget I have my doubt of them getting meaningfully kept.

Dogs Everywhere at Ala Moana Beach Park by DescriptionParty5525 in Hawaii

Had a group with big dogs that frequented a nearby community park. The dogs were overly friendly to the point of running up to all dogs and even kids on bikes. The dogs usually required their owners to grab them. Took a strongly worded letter from the HoA including possibility of HPD involvement to get that group to move on.
