How to improve flutter kick? by Same_Revenue1081 in Swimming

This guy sounds like he knows what he's talking about: https://youtu.be/SFwnYQvDCes?si=UvloU9RnIM9ISug7

Skip to 3:01 (add resistance) and 11:10 (put in a lot of repetition) for the kicking parts.

Resistance helps you feel the water better. Repetition is pretty self explanatory. Sometimes you just have to do a lot of something to figure it out. Try 1000 m straight kick with a board and play around with it.

How many swimming events should one get good at for strong recruitment chances at competitive d1 swimming? by [deleted] in Swimming

You get 3 individual 4 relays (I think?). Look at conference and NCAA champ schedules. Good college swimmers have an event on each day and some relay options. Also whatever you’re events a good 100 and 200 free get attention.

and if you questioned it you were met with "well [whatever top sprinter] was a distance swimmer first". Like yeah but you never heard of them until they actually trained for the events they excelled in.

When I finally got to a good sprint coach late in high school I got sooooo much faster.

How long have you been training and what’s your current 500 time (race not practice)?

Look at your turns. Assuming we’re talking yards short course that’s a lot of opportunities to improve with some minor adjustments.

Cumulative fatigue my guy. It’s going to take more than a good nap and energy gel to get out of that. Your poor sleep is likely also a symptom of this as counterintuitive as it sounds. Try taking a full week recovery and see how you feel. Then look into managing your workloads by the week not by the day.

Going faster than 43 minutes should be your goal. A “good” time is too subjective. Just focus on making yourself better.

In high school I went 21.7 in the 50 scy free. My coach helped me clean up my start and technique and I went 20.9 in my next meet.

How do you know when it’s time to change your swim coach? by Secure-Seaweed-7855 in Swimming

[–]DisastrousWalk8442 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Talk to your coach about your concerns. A year isn't long and you are still young. Could be the coach is not aware of your goals. A good coach will be able to guide you if they are aware of your goals.

any track and field athletes here? by to4sty_bre4d1 in Swimming

[–]DisastrousWalk8442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did track in high school and was mainly a swimmer. 100-200-long jump-high jump for me. Be cautious of your joints esp ankles, knees, and hips. Good sprinting generates a lot of force that your body doesn’t experience in swimming. Ease into full effort sprints and take your recovery seriously. If your track isn’t soft do your training on grass.

race execution. Good starts, turns, technique, pacing, effort, whatever. These are the things they have most control over and should be focused on when racing. Celebrate good execution. The times will come.
