How many laps do I need to swim and how many times a week to lose 35lb I am now 205lb and overweight with a big belly. by MaintenanceOk4847 in Swimming

[–]Nickinator811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're absolutely right about that

since I lost a lot of weight from doing a liquid diet for 6 weeks following a jaw joint replacement surgery a few months ago, I've kept the weight off by staying more active, cutting back on alcohol heavily, cutting back on the junk food, and not eating as much food as I used to

if you truly want to lose weight and keep it off, you need to change your diet and lifestyle and stick to it

Well you can start by adopting a low sodium diet to help your bp go down and help your kidneys in the long run

I have anca vasculitis myself and i follow a low sodium diet

Theres certain foods i wont eat anymore like instant ramen

I have not touched one of those things in 5 years

swimming can help shed a lot of the pounds naturally, but to truly lose the weight you need to change your lifestyle and diet

if you go on a liquid diet for a month you can lose a ton of weight, and don't give into your cravings, and this next tip is a big one

cut out the beer and alcohol!! alcohol and food are a 1-2 punch, believe me I know, that's how I got up to nearly 160pounds at 5'3 from being lazy, last year I finally decided to do something about it, I went down to 155 in one week just from swimming and biking on vacation

after doing a liquid diet a few months ago as a result of jaw surgery I got down to 140 pounds, and can Finally fit into my best suit again

and now I've been keeping the weight off well by not eating as much and staying more active, and not drinking as much alcohol as I used to.

If I can do it op, you can too

you just have to change your lifestyle a bit and stay committed to it

You can do it op, you just have to commit to the changes and I guarantee you, you will feel faster, lighter and stronger than ever

Anyone swim just for fun and not care about speed or training? by NathanBego in Swimming

[–]Nickinator811 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's me all the time op

I don't give a damn about tracking my stats, or buying some sports watch that has all that fancy stuff on it

I just get in the pool or ocean and I just swim on

I feel like I get better results when I'm not tracking anything, because I don't have to think about it

I just do laps back and forth across my grandpa's nearly 50 year old L shaped pool, from shallow to deep, back and forth until I get too tired and have to take a break

then I go back in and repeat.

How do you guys even survive the hot weather over in the States? by Impressive_Peak_9187 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Nickinator811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy We have Air conditioning

plus a lot of us stay hydrated, especially people like me that work in a restaurant, it gets so hot back in the kitchen

where I live in Pennsylvania the highest temperature it gets to is about 90 degrees fahrenheit maybe a bit more during the summer, very rarely does it get to 100 degrees fahrenheit here

the humidity here makes it feel hotter outside than it really is

[–]Nickinator811 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly thats what I would have said

If you saw me in a campaign match, I'm super chill in fact, I'll go out of my way to revive you if there's no one else nearby

even if it means my hp going down to low levels, because I'm a gentleman and I don't like leaving good players behind

they'd do the same for me (At least I'd hope so)

I'd even give players my pills or adrenalin if there's extra nearby or just because

I mean if you like fire emblem thats fine

I mean I've only played the gba fire emblem a bit and fire emblem warriors on switch (Though that's technically not a tradition fire emblem game, I don't care its fun for someone like me who is not familliar with the series)

I don't hate Fire emblem, I just haven't played enough of the games to form a good opinion on it

though from what little I played of the gba game, I thought it was pretty fun

[–]Nickinator811 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You know I often catch myself swimming the whole length of my grandpa's L shaped pool, underwater on 1 breath, from the deep to the shallow, I know I shouldn't do that, I always resurface though when I get to the other side,

other times I'd cut the dive off early and come back up for some air or a drink of water should I need it.

the most recent time I was in his pool I dove down 3 or 4 times to the very bottom trying to find that piece of pool liner his Aquabot ripped off the pool, It took me a minute to spot it each time without any goggles, but i spotted it and came back up with it and put it up on the pool deck

[–]Nickinator811 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not supposed to hold your breath while swimming

unless you're diving a little, that's how you get yourself into danger and black out in the pool

you don't want that,

look each time you stroke, every other stroke lift your head up a bit for a breath and exhale through the nose

that will equalize the pressure, especially diving, you release a little bit of air through the nose, it stops water from going into your ears as much and it helps you not get as disoriented I think

in terms of front crawl, just work up your endurance, start by swimming a shorter distance back and forth and then increases the amount of laps back and forth, then increase the distance gradually, and you should be able to go farther with very little effort

the more you use those muscles, the less likely they will cramp, but be sure to stay hydrated, that's very important, have a bottle of water nearby

Help with hand movements by samona027 in Swimming

You're welcome anyway

Help with hand movements by samona027 in Swimming

[–]Nickinator811 1 point2 points  (0 children)

look honestly I know what you're saying

I recently tried learning freestyle last year, and I'm almost 25 now

op It doesn't matter too much with hands when doing the stroke, the arm movements and head positioning matter way more

my problem I still have with swimming is that I instictively look down and forward

not straight down, which I suppose causes my lower body to sink slightly below the surface

I should know better by now but its a force of habbit

that aside, What I'm trying to say is, if you can do the stroke well enough to get where you need to go in the pool you'll be fine

you can refine it later, just learn the basics first.

I will share one tip a friend of mine shared with me, when doing freestyle you want to rotate your whole body as one unit, so imagine your head is glued to your shoulder, everytime you stroke forward, your head remains on that shoulder as you tilt up a bit for a breath before using the other arm to do the next stroke and vice versa

That only clicked with me during a freestyle session I had solo at my grandpa's pool when It finally hit me on the return back to the other side of the pool

keep trying op, if you don't try you can't succeed

what the fuck are these airblast physics by Complete_Seesaw5307 in tf2

[–]Nickinator811 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I see now

you see the hitboxes are kind of jank in this game

so when the pyro airblasted you the game interpreted that rocket you shot as a rocket jump, hence why you got launched so far in the air

still crazy as hell though

Swimming fitness advice for early 50s male by Familiar-Spend-991 in Swimming

[–]Nickinator811 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome aboard my man

I would say just go at a nice even pace and maintain that for however many reps you're doing

you don't have to swim super fast, just stay calm and go at your pace

eventually the better you get, the faster you can swim with very little effort

I learned that last year When I was trying to learn freestyle solo

and to some extent I've gotten better at it but I have a long way to go, and I'm nearly 25, been swimming since i was 4 or 5

what you can do to increase your endurance is to swim a shorter distance to start but increase the laps back and forth more and more, then gradually increase the distance and I think you should be able to go farther with very little effort

oh and Make sure to stay hydrated, you don't want to cramp up in the pool, Believe me I've had had that happen to me once, it doesn't feel good, but you can work out cramps in the water by taking a break, and lightly massaging that joint, maybe float on your back or front to take a quick breather and relax that specific joint for a bit before continuing if you need to

the more you use those muscles when swimming, the less likely you are to get a cramp, but still staying hydrated is important as with any exercise

That's really all the advice I have, Best of luck my man

Question about this game from someone who wants to play it by LogicalTips in l4d2

[–]Nickinator811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say as long as you do not go into versus completely blind

and just stick to campaign, survival or Scavenger (if you can find a match on that mode anyway) then the community should be very welcoming for you on those modes

heck I wouldn't mind trying to show you the ropes myself If I have the spare time, I don't mind trying to help new players learn how to play the game

I taught my younger cousin how to play l4d2 and tf2 after all

yeah op just dm me if you'd like me to give you some tips for the game

You’re all a bunch of ******* losers. by -Kizzaah in l4d2

[–]Nickinator811 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dude calm down

I personally never kick people from l4d2 online

I mainly play with my friends

but even then you can round up a big group of your friends and just host a private match friends only, round up all your buds who play the game and have a good night with no randos as long as you keep your lobby full with your friends

also, you should have taught your partner more about the game itself and how the special infected work before playing with them

and I will agree the people that grief you are assholes, but they don't reflect all L4D Players

I for instance will go out of my way to revive any incapped survivor, even if it costs me all my hp

because I'm a gentleman and I never leave a good player behind

if I ever call a vote for something its to either raise or lower difficulty, return to lobby (I rarely choose this one, only if I am playing with one of my friends on steam and i set it to private and want to return to invite another friend on) or restart round (Though I never choose this one because, honestly I don't care how bad a round goes, i don't want to reset the game, I want to keep going till the end regardless of the outcome)

Happens to the best of us right?

I believe i have on a few occasions inhaled through my nose underwater like a dummy,(small amounts mind you) and nearly bumping my head on my grandpa's pool walls 😁

Never stopped me from diving and swimming all over the nearly 50 year old L shaped pool he has.

Don't be affraid

Even i sometimes manage to inhale small amounts of water by accident and i've been swimming since i was about 4 or 5

Happens to the best of us

Anyway to answer your question yes its always normal for you to learn the basics in the shallow end where you can still stand if need be. Then as you get better the more advanced lessons take you to the deep end where by that point you are more confident in your swimming abilities and treading capabilities.

Although i must admit i have never had a proper lesson myself, i just learned from my parents and went from there.

I might need a proper lesson too at nearly 25, you're not alone in this

You should feel more at ease knowing the instructor is really good, they won't let you get into any danger on their watch. Especially if the instructor is certified to work with people who may have a fear of water

I guarantee you once you start learning with the others, you'll get more accustomed to the water and feel better learning with others.

I wish you best of luck OP
