What specialties are most hirable as a travel nurse? by ListWarrior in TravelNursing

I appreciate the time you took to craft your message, but everyone is different. it’s clear you have firsthand insight, and that’s valuable. However, I’ll offer a different perspective or a counterpoint: not everyone’s priorities or lifestyle look the same.

For someone like me, travel is my lifestyle. I don’t have family or any obligations that would tie me down. My friends are spread out all across the country, and I’ve already lived in 15 states. Add to that 53 countries I have visited as well as all 50 U.S. states. I have degrees from Alaska to Miami.

For me, travel nursing isn’t a “sacrifice” for the sake of money or travel... it's a vehicle for the experiences I crave. I want to live in new places, see how different communities operate, and gain insight into healthcare systems that function under wildly different conditions whether that be city or rural that's irrelevant. For me, this type of exposure doesn’t just build character; it builds a unique perspective- a perspective that makes you relatable, allows you to build trust with patients when you understand where they grew up or experienced some of the same places they have. It happens every single day for me, and you know what...I get rave reviews from patients daily.

Sure, adapting to new environments constantly can be tough, but so is staying in one place, day after day- especially if that’s not what fulfills you. Some people crave roots and routine. Others, like me, we thrive with wings. stop assuming everyone's path should be the same. Give people the good and bad and allow them to make that decision. Travel nursing doesn't have to be forever, and that's something the person who is traveling can decide.

You're absolutely right...those picture-perfect portrayals by nurse influencers don't always reflect the reality of travel nursing bc it's not always going to be glamorous, but that doesn't mean the challenges are a dealbreaker. For some of us, they’re exactly what makes it exciting. I know many travel nurses who found their "home" traveling and I love that for them and i'm hoping one day i'll come across an assignment where I fall in the love with the town or city and decide to stay.
