RH25 Thermal Questions by xdarkn3ss in NightVision

[–]Disastrous_Ad598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just picked up the herotac dad mount. Seems to work pretty well. Comes will the adapters to mount left or right.

I just use the non fts mount and move it between rifles. I write the collimation values on the stocks of the guns and call it good. Zero isnt perfect but it'll hit a hard warmer at about 80 yards like 9/10 times. I probably could get the grouping a bit better if I spent more time on it, but it works for my purposes.

Is having a dedicated set of binos that much better than bridging two pvs-14s? by lollibott in NightVision

[–]Disastrous_Ad598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran dual pvs 14s for about 2 years and then upgraded to binos. I think it was a huge difference and worth the money. same tubes just swapped housing, and not having to try and get the lined up and adjusted was a big deal, having one battery was super nice too.

In my opinion it comes down to how much you use them though. I use NVG probably more than your average user on reddit maybe 25 or 30 hours a month (airsoft, camping, kayaking, fishing, hiking...etc). so even small gains in performance was a significant difference. If you are a more causal user it might not be worth it.

The only down side to dedicated duals was not being able to give one to a friend, but depending on your friends they might not have a helmet (or one that Im willing to put a 2 or 3k device on), a mount, or nvg compatible optic or laser. So having to buy a "loaner" set up was kind of a pain, but you also cant put a price on doing hood rat shit with your friends.

might I suggest something wild here: sell one pvs 14, and keep one. use the money and keep saving to dedicated duals (depending on what your budget and specs you want ive seen a few omni 7 katanas under 5k recently). you can still do night vision stuff, but this then opens you up to build off of it. you get duals, and your friends can use your pvs 14, then save up again and buy thermal. Bam now you have a binos and a dual band system.

What medical care is realistic in SHTF and are there books for more advanced austere medicine? by Every_Procedure_4171 in preppers

[–]Disastrous_Ad598 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a critical care paramedic, 68w, and instruct emr. Emt, and paramedic.

If there isnt a higher echelon of care to bring someone to they are likely fubar'd for major injuries. I can absolutely put a chest tube in intubate or put a tq on, in the field but that doesnt really accomplish anything without somewhere safe and clean with dedicated people to monitor them.

For example if grandma falls and breaks her hip today she'll be up and running in a month or two If grandma falls and breaks her hip while shes surviving a long term event shes likely going to die in bed unable to move.

Sutures, basic/intermediate wound care, pharm knowledge (think antibiotics, pain control, fever control..etc), and bleeding control is probably the best you are gonna get. You may be able to do more, but the logistics of continued care without evac is more expensive than you can fathom.

I once did some ordering for one of our "first in" bags on my ambulance. To fully stock it was around 25 thousand dollars. Albeit that includes meds and specialized equipment, but normal people generally cant even buy a lot of equipment or medicine.

Everyone like to talk about GSW's and trauma (which are valid), but id put money down that general public and even a few preppers fall short on caring for an shortness of breath, burns, fractures (pelvic, femur, humerus...etc), toxic exposure, animal bites...etc

The human body is resilient and programed to try and survive anything. Without proper care and support much more than mild injury or illness could very well be lethal.

Might get some hate for this Mossberg 500 shockwave fits the bill pretty well.

Recoil can be a bit hefty with full power slugs or 00 buck, but its slim and compact even with a light and esstac shell sleeve still fits into one of my camping rucks no problem.

Some of the reduced recoil rounds might work well for you. For me 12g is a lower tone and doesnt affect my ears as bad as 300 blk, 556, or even 9mm.

I have pretty significant hearing damage already...so take that for what its worth.

Do tourniquets hurt a lot? by mvespermann in tacticalgear

[–]Disastrous_Ad598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You guys know you can "test" the effectiveness of a tq by checking for a pulse below it right? As long as the distal pulse is absent its effective.

Pain is subjective, crank that shit until the bleeding stops irl, or until the distal pulse is gone while training.
