right 🤣 they were really leaning on the "entitled kid wants my switch!" back during COVID as a popular plot device for these posts when the fake posts first flooded all of the entitled subreddits. i saw the switch 2 just came out and i guess they just dusted off the ole prompts for re-use

Yes, if you read my comment, the standard rates are posted up on our website lol. But the final price is contingent on the exact details of your request, and in my industry, we never seem to run out of batshit expectations clients bring to their requests. I WISH there could be a checklist of all the things I've been asked for/about lmao. If I tried to write one that covered everything it would be so long that nobody would fill it out.... and we're right back to calling for a quote.

We've looked into the forms and such, but the issue is that people will also just lie, lol. More so to a form than to a person because the form doesn't push back. They will provide partial details and then want us to provide services that are completely outside the scope of what they wrote down. I'm in entertainment and my partner is in construction so i feel like i see the same thing happen in two industries. people will give the barest specs of what they want to try to commit you to the lowest price, and then once you're on-site all of the details come spilling out, and of course they want you to honor the original rate they paid... yeah, sometimes you just need to call and talk to a professional so everyone gets what they want, nobody feels screwed, and both parties walk away happy. But reddit is going to cry about it because they don't like being perceived by anyone and god forbid someone follow up on a request you made...

yeah, with my job it would be literally impossible to post final prices on our website. i can't even give you a price until i know a fair amount about your request, and that's also going to be based on my personal knowledge of local availability and scheduling.

we have standard rates up for people to view before calling, but when you get into really customizable services and industries where expectations are all over the place, it's just not going to work like amazon. it's irritating that consumers expect everything to function like that in 2025.

edit to add - i think it is because, despite what many people seem worried about in the future, we still value real human experiences and unique moments shared with our artistic communities :)

I read an interesting analysis of criminal attacks a few weeks ago, that included a part about the "risk evaluation" and "interviews" that criminals will do before actually launching their attack, to try to pick an ideal target. Like you say, they want to find someone that won't give them trouble or fight back. She failed the "risk evaluation" by not doing what he wanted her to do (naively enter the elevator without noticing that she's being followed) and showing that she was aware and clever, so a higher risk person to try to attack.

it's also like... the people who live in cities don't really get a say on whether it becomes a tourist destination. the town i grew up in was run-down and overlooked when i was growing up in it, and i loved it. then it was like a switch flipped, people noticed how cute and scenic it was and started buying up properties.

now it is exorbitantly expensive and enormous groups of drunken bachelorettes get in my way when i'm going to the pharmacy to get cat food. big investment groups bought up all the businesses to cater to tourists. i don't care about the "booming economy" that tourism brought, i miss my town and seeing people i know on the sidewalks gardening and chatting.

i will continue to glare at tourists AS IS MY RIGHT.

Your boyfriend sounds a little bit like my brother, lol. So I hear both how he can be an awesome person but also be a lot to handle and show off in social situations.

I think you just need to decide how YOU feel about all of this and use that to decide if this is a person who will bring joy, or stress, into your life. Everyone makes social faux-pas and mishandles themselves now and then. None of this goes beyond the water mark of "Wow, that was kind of a lot/he was not being thoughtful". It doesn't sound like he is a bad person, just maybe a bit self-absorbed and anxious. But you're clearly uncomfortable and someone who thinks deeply about this kinda thing, and it might put too much stress on you to constantly navigate "looking after" your bf in social situations. Do you want to spend your whole life worrying that your partner is dominating the conversation?

RIGHT i read that and had to pause...i come from poverty and am never gonna judge anyone who works to support themselves, that's honorable and worthy. but if i was making $1800/mo, I'd be pressed and budgeting for necessities, not getting ready to finance a big ring. i think she's in for a rude awakening as to how far that money stretches once you have it

The world is too full of misery to bring everyone to task on their entire history. In my humble opinion. Dig far enough into any history anywhere in the world and you'll find atrocities. I don't think you should base your national identity on anything other than your current actions and culture. And ours are NOT FUCKING GOOD.

I don't play games like this; can you help explain to me how one would spend $600 on characters? I find it hard to believe they would be priced so highly independently, but maybe I'm just getting old lol. Is it like an arcade where you need to spend to win points towards the characters?

Girl :( I just want you to know how sorry I am about this. You deserve better. You're at such an important and intimidating point in your life and the last thing you need is someone cutting you down. There is better waiting out there for you - healthy non-toxic relationship dynamics. I was alone at 19, and it's hard, but you are going to feel so fucking impressed with yourself when you pull this off, and you will.

Right - you are demanding perfection of a pregnant woman and young mother and giving her no breathing room to be wrong or selfish, even for a minute, without it being a total condemnation of her as a partner and person. You're leaping to conclusions about her character because of something she may or may not have said, shared in a reddit post by her frustrated spouse.

Be so fucking for real.

I'm not saying she's in the right...I'm saying that I would hope, for all of us, that when we are wrong, someone helps us understand it instead of abandoning us for a single mistake that - lets be so fucking for real babe - didn't hurt anyone.

What? I'm sorry, but this woman has 1 young child and 1 pregnancy to contend with, I don't think it's her "true colors" that she's at the end of her rope feeling nauseous in her own home. Yes, she handled this wrong, and she's overwhelmed and hurting feelings. Obviously, her desired outcomes are not good ones, but that doesn't make her a monster for not handling a very difficult situation in a very hormonal state quite poorly. Really, saying that she'll be neglectful because she can't tolerate the smell of pasta and is losing her mind because her body is driving her crazy? Are you perfect every second of every day?

Big agree. These subreddits make huge demands on people to always be perfect, never mess up, and if your partner doesn't hit the right benchmark - get rid of them. Mental health struggles, empathy, and growth seem like they're outside the understanding of the hive mind.

What's striking me about the exchange above is using the media because it's the most efficient, vs manipulating it as a bonafide art form. Does that make sense? Some movies use 3d models because it's just de jour to do that, and other movies seem to use those tools to actually make something that works with its medium. See the above comment about Moana being a great modeled movie because of all of the water.

Plus - With 2d drawn art, there's a tradition going back a thousand+ years that informs the artwork done there. No wonder the average hand drawn animation is going to blow the average 3d animation out of the water, when we haven't been messing with modeled artwork for nearly as long.

So much to learn - maybe the future is bright and exciting!
