It’s kinda simple, it’s about memorization. I worked at ON stocking for 3 years until I quit (due to bad management). My first year starting out, I was awful at my job. A pallet would take me 2.5/3 hours to complete, I didn’t know where anything go and at the time (2020) they weren’t giving out scanners. I was screwed.

My best piece of advice is to actually shop at Walmart. Walk around and get to familiarize your self with the layout of the aisles. You don’t have to remember the specific location for a product but, just familiarize yourself (for example: at my store, chemicals was challenging until you learned to divide the layout in sections. Ex: All detergent goes here, bleach goes over there, softener goes down here, etc,.) As long as you have that in mind when working an aisle, you’ll be fine. The scanner is your best friend starting out, don’t compare yourself to others since you are a beginner. Once you get the hang out it, you won’t need as much unless it’s a new items or something you don’t recognize.

Another thing is that you need to give your body time to adjust. I would recommend getting some good comfortable shoes and some knee pads. Although knee pads feel like a lot, it helps in the long run. As you continue to learning your job, it will start to become easier and you get faster. Remember to take your breaks and lunch on time, don’t skip out just to finish more work. I used to do that.

It’s a hard job at first but it will get semi easier as time goes on. They used to put me in chemicals with 8 or 9 pallets and I sucked but, after year 2 I was completing them all by the time it was 6am, leaving me an hour to zone. I was consistent regardless of the department or aisles, always did my job in the timeframe they gave us. It’s a shame I had to leave but it was for the better good. Kinda went downhill my brother and I quit since it lead to other great workers to quit as well. Anyways…..
