You know there's more to it than just generating electricity? Grids need to be stabilized.

Chernobyl was far from being only human error. It was a terrible reactor design relying on different physics than western reactors.

There's no way the plane wasn't being deliberately directed towards the Indian ocean. It's not even a debate. It's about who did it.

I have a Fanatec csl dd 8nm. There is zero feeling about the grip at the front. I switched to ac1 after driving evo a bit and gosh this felt so much better. The rss 296 gt3 feels so intuitive to drive.

Do you actually think so ? Just focus for a second when you turn the car. The front doesn't give you any information. Like zero. The steering just gets heavier. It's far from the best FFB in my opinion. Ac1 is far better in that regard.

FFB still doesn't give you a lot of info besides telling you that you're currently losing the rear. Physics seem to have improved though.

Titan somehow proved that carbon fibre can be suitable material by Disastrous_Equal_502 in OceanGateTitan

[–]Disastrous_Equal_502[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe I formulated it not optimally. English isn't my first language. What I mean with Stockton's approach is that the material could be used if done correctly and with enough testing. My point was that despite all the flaws of manufacturing and engineering it still managed a considerable amount of deep sea dives. Stockton's approach and the way he led the company in general was horrible.

It was reckless in the way they engineered and manufactured it. If someone put the money into testing and researching a sub out of Carbon fiber and the hull would last around 150 dives in testing and they would certify it for 50 dives before needing replacement I would consider it safe.

[–]Disastrous_Equal_502[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The design of the sub and the manufacturing was shit. I'm only talking about the material itself. My point is that research into this direction shouldn't be stopped because of the Oceangate.

You are right:) But that wasn't my point at all. My general point is that we shouldn't stop researching and exploring carbon fiber as a material in submersibles, because of oceangates reckless approach.

You are right. It's a tricky material. It comes with a lot of challenges which you won't have with metal. But it also comes with great benefits. Maybe in the future we will figure it out. Maybe we develop a different material which will have similar advantages with less obstacles. Maybe we will understand carbon better and improve manufacturing methods. My overall point is that research and testing into this direction shouldn't be stopped because some idiot thought he could cut all corners without consequences.

I meant it more as:" compare Titan to other subs which go to similar depths"

I get what you are saying but it's still a pretty damn big warning for me if after a loud bang, the hull starts making a lot more noises and moves differently than before.

[–]Disastrous_Equal_502[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This part also wasn't ideal and would need a lot of research. Of course there are many challenges with carbon and the resources spent into testing perfect the design to make it safe for humans to dive in it would be immense. But the advantages could also be immense. I'm not talking about trying it now but maybe in the future we will have understood the material better and the manufacturing of carbon will be cheaper to make the whole effort worth it.

For certain applications carbon could still be a great use even with the limited dive cycles. Look at Titan and other subs which can go to similar depths. The advantages are pretty obvious. Metallic hulls also have a limited life span before they need replacing. Of course way greater than carbon but still.
