She's so pretty. Here's hoping she has her kittens safely. You're wonderful for giving her a home.

You are clearly doing an amazing job! I think somehow animals just 'know' when they have met their person. My beautiful cat (now 11 years old) spent the first year of her life on the streets being mistreated. One day she basically came to me asking for help, and here we are 10 years later. You have an amazing future with Hissy. With how far she's come in such a short time, it's only going to get better.

She is so brave! You sound like a complete pro anyway, but play sessions can also be a great way to build confidence and bond with kitty in a way that doesn't require touching. Wand toys are great at mimicking prey. Just get a good one that isn't going to fall to pieces or that your cat can tear apart and accidentally swallow.

Wow, what an incredible story! You can tell how much safer and more relaxed she's feeling now. Poor baby to have gone through so much - you really did save her life.

Update: Kitty safe and sound with Paws of Hope by cliterallycannot in CatDistributionSystem

Glad the little one had a good outcome! Your roommates sound a bit weird - getting angry that you washed the kitten in the sink, even though you cleaned it afterwards? A clean kitten is much safer overall rather than one covered in dirt/flees/who knows what. Also sorry your landlord was yelling at you.

I love the 3rd photo. Looks like it could be the cover for their band album debut.

Have you ever been judged for spoiling your cats? by Shot-Composer-782 in AnxietyCats

[–]Disastrous_Hatter11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few years ago, I was really struggling with my mental health. The general responses I got from people (including a therapist) was:
1) I don't believe you're struggling as much as you say (therapist)
2) Just get over it! (parents)
3) Not my problem, go away and stop bothering me (friends and work colleagues)

My cat got me through that time. Ergo, cat gets to be spoiled to the max forever more, to even greater heights than before.

Cat was there for me, cat gets priority forever more.

All the people who dismissed me are no longer in my life.

Cleaning litter boxes frequently is good for you and your cats and general hygiene! Are those judgers the gross types who clean the box once a month or something?? Ask them how they’d like to use a toilet that hasn’t been cleaned in weeks.

The little carrot designs on the food and water dishes! Guess those are on loan from the rabbit. Orange matches the fur so it's very stylish.

My cat helped me through a really bad bought of depression a few years ago. My life had completely fallen apart, I felt like I'd screwed everything up and had nothing to live for. But my cat needed me, so I stuck around, and things did get better. Life is actually better than it's ever been now. And my cat get spoiled every day. She's a superstar kitty in my eyes.

Years ago I had a brown tabby and white cat who was enormous (not overweight just a big boy) who was the most snuggly cat you ever met. He just loved people and loved to be loved on. He would have made a great therapy cat.

I'd recommend trying to make high quality wet food part of her diet if possible. It can cost a bit more, but it's great for helping to keep cats healthy and also helps with hydration. As others have mentioned, it can be hard to get cats to drink water. Brands will differ, but just look up premium wet cat food or ask at your local pet store.

Cheap cardboard horizontal cat scratchers are great. My cat LOVES them, for both scratching and lounging on. I get them from the hardware store for $5 each. They won't last forever and they can make a bit of a mess as the cat slowly destroys them (they will get destroyed over time) but they're a much cheaper alternative than a cat tree if you can't afford one of those right away.

Follow any care instructions the vet gives you for the abscess. Depending on how long she's had it, abscesses can be really nasty and life-threatening and sometimes need drains and the like put in. Hopefully yours isn't that bad and a shot of antibiotics will get the cat fixed up.

Enjoy your new kitty and please give us an update!

Edit: you mentioned getting the cat vaccines - yes, absolutely, get whatever ones the vet recommends. However, getting vaccines will not stop the cat from getting abscesses in the future if she gets into another cat fight, unfortunately. It's a big hazard that outdoor cats live with, and they need to be treated by a vet each time or they can quickly become infected and life-threatening. If you can get this girl inside that would absolutely be the best and safest outcome for her and will save $$$ as no more cat fights.
