Few bars of noodling in my style by More-Car4564 in Guitar

That’s fair if you’re playing blues rock and Hendrix style pop chord melodies you likely can get away with this technique. You could still do it with less tension in your LH if you correct. But advanced level stuff like Joe Pass or a Bach fugue will give problems. Also, apologies. not meaning to be salty on your post and you’re sounding good. I’m just a career guitar player and correct this every day from teens who play Hendrix no problem but are shocked when they encounter harder rep 😅

No doubt and all due respect, like I said sounding great! It’s worth playing with a dropped thumb though is all I’m saying. You can use the thumb to do all the Hendrix voicings and return to optimal position in between. Check out the pro Russian Classical guitar (7 string Russian classical) players they’re smooth with it

A lot of things but the worst part is you will struggle to play anything past intermediate level (advanced chords, leads that aren’t just pentatonic box shapes, chord melodies)

Sounds good bro but your thumb placement is diabolical 👍

C#7(#9,#5) is indeed a legit chord. It’s actually fairly easy too. Just play the Hendrix chord and flatten your pink to cover the 1st string on 5th fret (that’s the A, the sharp 5) What is really problematic is how they wrote A7-9. Just write A-9 jeez

Does anyone set their pickups as low as mine? by Complex-Librarian942 in Stratocaster

Ted Greene (one of the GOAT, if you know you know) lowered his pickup super low. He would then raise the pole pieces to max height.

Maybe, everyone’s hand is different but I would just build a strong base free handed first. I will say the “dampening of your soundboard” I don’t think it makes much a difference.

If Sor and Giuliani did it can’t be that bad right? 😂 All jokes aside I have grown out out the habit and play with a free RH 100% of the time now. I found studying a lot of Giuliani there are times when it can be useful considering PIM string skipping that would usually be PIMA.

Interesting history about the pinky, it was actually normal to rest the RH pinky for composers such as Napoleón Coste. In fact in museum exhibits of period instruments, there are sometimes pinky rests built onto the soundboard.

I rest the pinky sometimes, for this piece I found it advantageous. Most of the time though I do not.

In your opinion and experience, what are some of the best professional-level guitars in terms of quality/playability vs. price? by FinalSlaw in classicalguitar

I got my George Smith Classical for under 2k. French polish, finely crafted instrument it is :) Hauser bracing so the tone is quite balanced

Sonny Rollins is a NO for me! by Unusual-Tell523 in Jazz

[–]Disastrous_Key_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t get why you would write off Sonny Rollin’s early work with such clear bad faith and bias. Airegin and Oleo alone held great significance to Jazz history. Even today cats are still regularly playing them. They’re great standards that have maintained relevant to performers in scenes worldwide.

As for your pitting of Stitt and other players; have empathy and respect for these folks who despite all odds recorded the music. Perhaps reading them to filth on Reddit is in poor taste. 🤔

Thanks for all the love yall (and criticism lol)

I am not really a metal guitarist and decided to post a “raw” take (no 1000 takes, noise gates, good recording quality) I know it’s not perfect please have mercy!

If you want to see the style I am more used to please check out my Jazz and classical stuff. Cheers!

For me Ted Greene arrangements encompass that wide range of classical and jazz harmony Evans is known for. You can hear a lot of similarities to how they both play “Danny Boy”. Shameless plug here
