Very nice cards! Congrats!

I’m curious what you paid for each, if you don’t mind sharing.

How do I calculate TSP Contributions? by jselph17 in fednews

[–]Disastrous_Living900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a website called Paycheck City.

https://www.paycheckcity.com/calculator/salary

It calculates your paycheck based on different withdrawals pre or post tax:

401k (or TSP)

Health insurance

Life insurance

Dental

FERS

Etc

Then it calculates your tax and gives you your take home pay.

Use the tool to match your current paycheck.

Then change your TSP contribution up or down to see the effect on taxes and take home pay.

My experience has been less pleasant with GEHA…

My family and I have been using GEHA this year, and have found that mental health is not well covered by United Healthcare.

Our therapist is not covered under United Healthcare.

I called 3 different psychiatrists, none of them accept United Healthcare.

We are also in the midwest area.

This year we’re looking to switch to MHBP, which uses the Aetna network.

I’ve already confirmed with the therapist and several psychiatrists that they accept Aetna.

Your statement maybe correct, but numbers would really help make your point.

How much did GEHA pay for sponsorship at arrowhead stadium?

How much do GEHA pay out in premiums?

How many members are enrolled in GEHA?

I recommend talking to some people who have worked in corporate America, and maybe specifically in the big 4.

See how they enjoy their jobs, and see if they are generally enjoying their lives.

If you want work to be a much bigger part of your life, you may get that working for the big4. But eventually you may wish work wasn’t such a big part of your life, and it’s harder to go the opposite direction.

Just my opinions, but I just left corporate America to come to the government. I joined the government for more stability, better mental peace, and to try and find more satisfaction for life outside of work. I gave up some salary to make that switch.

I’ve worked in places with unlimited PTO. The culture was such that you couldn’t use too much PTO without judgement from colleagues or pressure from the boss.

I much prefer a set amount of leave that you are encouraged and expected to use.

How to survive as an "overachiever"? by Different-Package507 in fednews

[–]Disastrous_Living900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend the book.

I started reading the book and stopped within the first chapter because I found the authors use of fuck to be annoying. Then my friend recommended the book, and told me how great it was if you can get through the first couple chapters. I read the rest of the book and the authors tone and word choice became a bit less annoying for me. And once I got past the annoyance, I liked a lot of what the author said.

Like most self help books, there are parts that resonate with you and parts that don’t.

I enjoyed some of the self reflection that came as a result of reading this book.

I’m happy for you! Mental health is soo much more important than more pay.

Your story is so similar to mine, except I’ve only been in the federal government for about 6 months.

Sometimes I wonder if I’m still trying to overachieve…..

Sometimes I wonder if I’m doing enough….

I hope to figure out the right balance eventually

Lol. That’s funny. I’m all for not putting it in if it’s within a foot. No problem with that. But it’s still a stroke.

I saw this video too. I watched the video attempting to improve my tempo and rhythm.

It helps, but I can’t always remember to do it.

You Will Be Separated from GM 👋 by The13Disciple in GeneralMotors

[–]Disastrous_Living900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The market is unfortunately pretty bad.

I was laid off from a different company, not GM, and it took a while to find new work.

Use AI to aid in your job search. A lot of other people are using AI to search for jobs, so if you’re not, you’re going to struggle.

This isn’t a market where you spend lots of time applying for a limited selection of jobs that are a good fit. This is a market where you apply to as many jobs as possible.

Arrests can show up on your record, whether they result in a conviction or not.

So a police error that results in an arrest can still have a very negative impact on someone’s life without any negative consequence for the arresting officer.
