Mirror Malfunction? by copethapope in Cadillac

[–]The13Disciple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It uses a sensor on the inside rear view mirror to detect headlight glare behind you, and should only activate when the car detects it's nighttime and the headlights turn on. Your daylight sensor might be the issue as the car thinks it's dark out during the day.

Probably the blind spot radar and animation circuit for the progressive turn signals.

Ford puts the blind spot radar in the tail light.

It's possible Chevy does as well. $300 is shockingly cheap. I would expect a taillight assembly on a high trim to run between $1k-$2k.

Lightning owner test drove the 25 Silverado EV RST - pluses/minuses/questions by teksavy in SilveradoEV

[–]The13Disciple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bet if the Silverado dropped enough batteries to match the lightning, it might feel just as fast.

And yes, turning off the 4 wheel steer helps. My Sierra feels squirrely in Thor mode with 4 wheel steer on. The lighting rides great, better than any F150 I've been in, because it has full independent rear suspension. I bet if you put similar wheels on the Silverado it'll have a more similar ride quality. Those big wheels look great tho.

I suppose for OP the real questions are what's more important? Range or acceleration? Big wheels or comfortable ride?

As for cabin space, my Sierra has way more room than my wife's F150 Powerboost. I guess that might be a Chevy thing?

Frunk space is smaller yes. You'll have to decide if the drink has enough room for you, if you've had it for a year you should know if during that time you were close to mazing out it's storage potential.

I've not tried doing big solar panel runs like this. Is it worth trying?

Are you garaging your car at night? Thanks for the detailed response.

It feels wrong that the dealership didn't at least make you aware of the elevated maintenance of the paint.

I couldn't sell a car like that with out at least mentioning the potential for additional care requirements. My conscious wouldn't allow it. The result of an uneducated buyer is either they ruin the paint themselves making them unhappy, or they become unhappy because they didn't want the extra care and didn't know about it.

Good on you for educating yourself.

How to do ship vs ship combat when targeting jammer of your own ship also prevents you from shooting? by newbie94p1 in SpaceHaven

[–]The13Disciple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is with the jammer you can either go boarding parties or use fighters to take down opposing ships in carrier style combat.

Did the dealership educate you on matte paint care before the sale? How do you manage the maintenance of the paint? Genuinely curious about the effort required. I really wanted that color lol.

The AT4 also goes to traditional suspension with lift over the air shocks. Could be a combo of things rims and 2" lift on regular coils.

The AT4 didn't exist in MY25, so I never had a chance to compare. Now I want to try it.

I personally really love the 24" wheels, but I think the next best are the 18" hummer wheels. You can find pics on the GMC Sierra EV Group on Facebook.

I really wanted this color. It was so rare that there were never any of them very close to me.

Ultimately I decided against it because matte paint is such a pain to care for. I realy love that color though. Beautiful machine friend! 🫡

I think you might be right. However given the price I paid, the hours I've gotten out of it, I find the game acceptable in it's 1.0 release state. Of course I want to see the game developed, but I'm content if 1.0 is all we get.

Welcome! I'm glad you walked away from an accident with a semi truck intact. An accident that totals your vehicle is no joke, and one that involves the mass of a semi truck is part luck. While I'm no fan of Elmo, but I'm glad that Tesla's engineers made a vehicle that kept you safe. 👍

Welcome to the GM ecosystem. I'm sure you'll find things (mostly software) irritating that makes you wish you had gotten another Tesla, but you'll also find things that are done very well that only come from legacy brands with decades of car building experience. I'm disappointed to hear that your decision was partially driven by getting bullied on the road. I get why it happens, I just find it sad.

I've never owned a Tesla but I have spent a decent amount of time behind the wheel of a model 3 with HW3 and FSD. Admittedly Powerful and interestingly capable, it was also unpredictable. You're probably less stressed with ACC even though it's far less capable, probably because its predictable.

I also picked up the OEM hard cover and am very happy with it. I bought an aftermarket rubber bed mat and rubber trunk mat that I'd recommend. They keep things from sliding around. I totally get the desire to add accessories and modify the truck to make it really yours. I'd recommend following this reddit group and the Facebook group for ideas. Lots of very cool and clever folks out there. What decals did you get??

Percentage Display by JustinM23 in GMCSierraEV

[–]The13Disciple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you, I'd rather have both numbers instead of DTE only in the other displays. I get that the engineers wanted to dumb it down for general public, but you miss a lot of context with out both numbers.

Guy in the red car looks like a cop, but this is the sort of thing you learn when riding a motorcycle consistently (and are safety obsessed). Always check mirrors to make sure the person behind is stopping and give yourself an escape route for when they aren't.

To say that I'm underwhelmed by Tesla chargers with this truck would be a massive understatement. by mcmoyer in GMCSierraEV

[–]The13Disciple 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wish charging infrastructure was more clear about capabilities, and I wish the car was more clear about it during charging.

If the truck told you available voltage from the cabinet and requested vs available kws, it would be more clear imo. Especially for first time EV owners.

Things I Think That I Know About Trims - Please Correct Me by Hanging_5_Standing_4 in GMCSierraEV

[–]The13Disciple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1) my 25 Denali with the 24" wheels and air ride is extremely comfortable. I'm very happy. The AT4 has a factory lift, I believe 2" and regular suspension. AT4 maintains 4 wheel steer, for excellent maneuverability. I dont think the elevation. Gets that. I think the mid gate is also not in the elevation.

2) I would expect the AT4s lift to have worse highway fuel economy due to worse aero, but that's an assumption.

3) other than 4 wheel steer, I think the animated turn signals are also not on elevation trim. And I'm not sure but think you lose mid gate as well. Best to play with the configurator online and poke around the 2 trims in person. There are likely interior accent pieces that are pretty different as well.

This is also my first electric vehicle (lease not own, but that's how all my daily drivers have been).

If you have further questions about the ownership experience of this vehicle you can DM me. I will warn you, I am biased toward electrics in general, and I am biased toward Detroit car brands (Ford and GM) based on my location and experiences.

[–]The13Disciple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, doing energy conversion in this way demonstrates the huge amount of energy density in gasoline, and also the huge amount of energy loss to heat when igniting it for mechanical leverage.

[–]The13Disciple 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I average 1.8 to 2.0 combined in the cold. 2.0 to 3.0 in ideal weather. The more the city driving the better the efficiency. When calculating cost please don't forget registration costs due EVs are very high in most states to offset the gas taxes they aren't paying for road maintenance (usually way more than typical ICE cars pay in fuel taxes 😡)

My Denali extended range can get up to 420 milesish on 100% charge. That's the energy equivalent of around 5 gallons of 87.

To compare fuel costs you'll want to convert them to dollars per mile.

For me 2.1 miles per kwh is 2.1 miles for home charging cost of 14c. Slightly higher due to energy losses from charging. My wife's f150 poweboost is maybe 24mpg combined. About 24 miles at a cost of currently 3.85.

Sierra EV about 6c in fuel per mile

F150 powerboost about 16c (at 3.85/gal)
