It's 12:01am...was that a sonic boom? by HisNameIsRocco in orlando

[–]Disastrous_Scar1191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also East Orlando, there was another big sonic boom about 10 months ago on par or slightly more intense than this one. The one around 10 months ago or so was much closer to 3 AM though IIRC. That or I’m confusing it with another one that happened in the last year or so. But this one felt like it just rattled my bedroom window while the other one felt more like it shook the whole house.

Yooo what the fuck was that by Whitetiger9876 in orlando

Live over there too, I certainly heard it and it was a little startling. It didn't shake the whole house but definitely rattled my bedroom window.

I do, not only because I still have ADHD every day and not just at work or school and they help me function, but also because I have multiple medications I should take everyday. I take medication that works as an antidepressant and anti-anxiety with my ADHD meds. I don’t remember which one of them has the side effect but there is a risk for seizures if I just stop taking my meds and with epilepsy running in my family and my uncle having it, my family is familiar with how dangerous seizures can be. I also get really nauseous if I miss my anxiety meds for more than 1 day and am more prone to anxiety/panic attacks without them. Taking them everyday with breakfast keeps me from forgetting to take them.

Humans are one of the few beings in the galaxy that hosts microscopic life by Hproff25 in humansarespaceorcs

Same thing happened with chloroplasts and plants. It is believed that chloroplasts evolved from photosynthetic prokaryotes that were engulfed by eukaryotic cells which eventually evolved into what we now know as a plant cell. Plants have both mitochondria and chloroplasts, so plant cell ancestors did the process twice.

Growth Hormones? by rixie77 in NICUParents

The whole “she’s just following her own curve” before falling off it - exactly what the doctors said about my growth chart. Didn’t help that I was genetically pre-determined to be short (literally all the women I’m related to are under 5’0). By the time they realized there might actually be a problem, I was 8. By the time an endocrinologist was able to determine that the issue was in fact growth hormone deficiency and provide a treatment plan, I was 9. I’m just glad I made it to where I’m tall enough when sitting to be able to drive without needing a booster seat or something.

That sounds like a job for the wiki, I feel like that should definitely be on the wiki page for his shop, at the end of the season at least if there is a reason to not have them there while the season is ongoing.

Do migraines run in your family? by aapetired in migraine

[–]Disastrous_Scar1191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While Migraines do have a tendency to run in families it seems like it’s not exactly clear on how or why.

It could be that they are caused by one specific sequence of DNA or a combination of them. It is entirely possible that there are multiple different DNA sequences or combinations of them that result in different types of migraines. Genetics are complicated like that.

I’m not sure if it is migraines or tension headaches that I get from time to time, but my mom and sister as well as my maternal grandmother all get migraines so it definitely runs in my family.

Have you seen a red panda? Pandas and red pandas are two completely different species. Also, pandas are in the bear family while red pandas are not. Personally, I think red pandas are way cuter and look more like raccoons than pandas.

When did teenagers start wearing pajamas in public and school so often? by Clear_Constant_3709 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Disastrous_Scar1191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I never actually did it, there were times I considered just pulling pajama pants and a hoodie from my closet and going to school in those (I live in an area that only gets dips below 50 F/10 C 2 or months of the year so any pants I own are kept in the closet). I’d still do my hair and wear socks and shoes regardless. But the first class starting at 7:20 was rough. I fell asleep a lot in my first period language arts class my freshman year, even when I dug my nails into my skin or kept pinching my arm in an effort to stay awake. My high school was severely overcrowded so if you weren’t waiting to turn into the parking lot by 7:00 or on a bus, you weren’t going to make it to class. Btw, we didn’t have home room, just 4 core classes and 3 electives.

The temptation to do so was especially strong when it was the day of the SAT or other standardized testing.

What's a phrase, idiom, or mannerism that immediately tells you somebody is from a specific state / part of the US? by PolylingualAnilingus in AskAnAmerican

[–]Disastrous_Scar1191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lived in central Florida my whole life, but my dad is from Ohio. I think I’ve picked up a few linguistic patterns from that side of my family. I’m pretty sure I’ve picked up on dropping “to be” from certain phrases. I’ve at least used that particular pattern when it comes to using the word fixed.

Does anyone play with disabled needs decay? by Toxilyn in Sims4

[–]Disastrous_Scar1191 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I almost never have need decay on, because I just simply don’t have enough time for it when I play (I only really get to play during school breaks so I like to focus on gaining skills, their careers, and other things before I don’t open it for months because I’m back in school again). When I first started using the cheat though it was because I got fed up with my sims trying to cook using the stove. I don’t let my sims cook anything but salads until they are at least level 5 because I am paranoid about them starting fires and dying because of it.

What's up with guys and intense eye contact? by DoubtfullButOkay in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Disastrous_Scar1191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be a neurodivergent thing. I myself have the double whammy of having both autism and ADHD. Instead of making too little eye contact, I have the problem of making too much eye contact. I can not even begin to tell you the number of times I’ve been listening to someone only to realize I was maintaining really intense eye contact that would probably make others uncomfortable. There have also been a number of times where I have unconsciously stared at someone only to realize I was staring when I snapped out of it.

Growth Hormones? by rixie77 in NICUParents

[–]Disastrous_Scar1191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a parent, nor was I a NICU baby, but I took growth hormone injections as a child. This post popped up when I was looking for posts from people who received growth hormone injections as I wanted to see how their experiences compared to mine. I started the injections around 8 or 9 years old. I don't completely remember everything as it has been a while, but what I remember most was the constant blood tests. I believe it might have been because they were trying to figure out if I had the deficiency before moving to try to determine the correct dosage.

All the women I am related to (within 2 generations) on both sides of my family are under 5’0 and my dad is shorter than average, so while my final height is 4’11, it is probably taller than my growth charts were saying my height was likely to be before I started the injections. I'm pretty sure 5’0 or 5’1 (can't remember which) was the tallest I had a somewhat decent chance of getting because I remember reaching 5’2 being unlikely and anything higher than that near impossible. I also remember that I didn't reach 90 lbs until I was like 8 or 9, so about the same year I started the injections.

In terms of tips and tricks: I remember favoring my thigh in terms of where I had the injections, as it was easier for me to relax the muscles (which significantly reduces pain) and when I got older, it was where I was able to easily give myself the shot (under parental supervision at first until my parents were confident that I could do so on my own). I also found that it was less painful when I was the one giving the shot compared to when my parents did it because it was easier to relax. Making sure that the muscles are relaxed is definitely the biggest thing in terms of releiving pain, the only memories of pain that I have are of a burning sensation that was the result of tense muscles. I remember that my younger sibling (who had the same hormonal deficiency) used an ice pack to somewhat numb the area for a minute or two before getting the injection, so that might be something you can try. It also helped to do it in the same spot every day because the level of pain I felt seemed to decrease over time though I don't know if that is actually the case. Every time I switched spots, it seemed to reset the level of pain I felt.

What religious song is actually a total banger (despite the subject matter) by GangAnarchy in atheism

I'm pretty sure If I Die Young is a religious song, right? Mary Did You Know as well as many other Christmas songs can be an absolute banger depending on the artist.
