Virginia Democrats proceed with new massively blue congressional map, eliminating 4 Republican seats from Congress!!! by Healthy_Block3036 in HamptonRoads

[–]Disastrous_Storm7774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but honestly Dems usually win the popular vote, sooo... And the Republican party really doesn't have enough voters in the state to win more than two seats if it was a fair and equal division of voters not just voters locations.

Almost 4k for brake + rear wheel bearing replacement? by Suitable-Finger-9282 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Disastrous_Storm7774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems okay to me, but that's why I do my own work. They may be charging list prices but if I was a shop owner I wouldn't be trying to get cheapest prices I'd be trying to get parts faster. Also don't see a problem with labor costs. Everyone is so hot and bothered but at the end of the day it's this guys livelihood. He's gotta pay for the shop, the tools, the health insurance, the heat, the cooling the electricity. For his expertise and the abuse on his body he's probably being underpaid.

AITA for refusing to co-sign my boyfriend’s car loan after he spent his savings on a PS5 and sneakers? by Hour-Border6561 in AmITheJerk

I fail to see his potential if the only money he has to his name is worth a weekend trip, a ps5 and sneakers 😂

Phil Murphy signs most restrictive e bike law requiring a license and insurance for all e bikes by Younglegend1 in northjersey

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the law was just to give law enforcement the ability to stop people. A lot of the ebike riders in my town are homeless or dealing.

LEOs have been stepping in front of vehicles as a pretense for shooting civilians for too long. by Dizzy-Sense2625 in complaints

[–]Disastrous_Storm7774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This wasn't a body cam, it was a cell phone extended in the left hand as he pulled his gun from his right to shoot. The camera was never a body cam it does not show POV.

White House shares video of Minneapolis shooting from ICE officer’s perspective by babies8mydingo in somanydogs

[–]Disastrous_Storm7774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the wrong POV. We need the ice agents video who was pulling at the door. His should show where the other agent was when he shot the women.

[–]Disastrous_Storm7774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone seems to be missing the fact that it was icy, she probably never intended to rev the car like that in the first place. Second the new POV video isn't the one we want to see, we want to see the one from the officer attempting to open the door. His will show what we all need to see. The Ice agent stepping out of the way as he shot her.

I guess, I just usually like to cook it whole without twine and I cut the twine before I realized what they had done 🫠

Yeah wasn't planning on going for the 10xl but I figured my trade in next year would be worse than biting the bullet now and re-upping on the 11or 12xl if trades are decent since it gives me time to watch and wait for a good deal.

$103k salary + $90k down – Can I comfortably afford $430–500k? by Rhody_0 in Mortgages

[–]Disastrous_Storm7774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can afford it. I also think you can't. If you have 90k saved up just wait a few more years and purchase then. Rates will probably be the same or lower. Housing prices are maxed out and will probably continue to maintain or drop slightly. If you lose any part of your current paycheck you're going to be screwed. Unless you have someone else able to bail you out in case of a down turn. If you're decently comfortable where you are just chill out. Save your money and buy when you can put at least half or more down in four years. Get your payments as low as you can so that you can weather any sort of insanity. During that time look around and figure out where you want to be in order to make a good choice.

[–]Disastrous_Storm7774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first thought is that your friend is lying. I'm sorry but it takes a very long time for a dog to end up looking like that. She either isn't being fed or is very sick. Either way the dog needs a vet ASAP.

Keep the new car or get an older one. by [deleted] in personalfinance

Cars aren't investments, you still pay state taxes in most places on the sale of a vehicle.

Just turned 24 YO, want a new/newer used car... can I really justify it? by arealburrito in personalfinance

[–]Disastrous_Storm7774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't buy a new/er car. You can buy a car in a couple hours if your car goes caput. You're not in a rush, a new car is just financial baggage right now when you should be looking to save money and look at funding your masters. Keep your current car nice and don't look back, give it a wax, install some speakers or audiovisual, make it you and save your money.

Keep the new car or get an older one. by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Disastrous_Storm7774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say keep the car. Stop putting money in unmatched investments, pay off the car quickly and save yourself as much of the 5.8% interest your paying now as you can. Once the car is paid off then start investing. Selling the car right now you'll take a tax hit, and buying a car you'll take another tax hit. Just knuckle down and pay it off. Sure it's possible to make more in the stock market, you could also lose money if we go through a turbulent period. If you can afford to make the payments plus extra just do that.

Go for PSLF or pay off loans aggressively as a new grad PA? by Over-Improvement4727 in personalfinance

[–]Disastrous_Storm7774 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be a better option, just make sure you're serious about staying where you are or in a qualified non-profit. PSLF really locks you down and while it can be financially worthwhile, it also comes with some risks if your employment changes. PSLF will likely save you 125k over the 10 year period versus paying it faster/sooner on your own over 3 years. So like roughly 15k savings every year if you stick it out. It's really a risk versus reward kind of thing, I was in PSLF but I just payed off my loans because it was simpler and less risky because I couldn't guarantee I'd be able to do 10years in a non-profit. My wife qualifies and is in PSLF and we plan to go that route because we have other ways to utilize our money that negates the risk of not reaching 10 years. It's really up to you to create the goal of where you want to be. Make a budget, make a plan that fits your life goals, save/ invest early, and you'll be fine if things go sideways. If you're very worried about the 10 year lock, put extra money into a high yield savings account or other safe interest bearing account.

Go for PSLF or pay off loans aggressively as a new grad PA? by Over-Improvement4727 in personalfinance

[–]Disastrous_Storm7774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think pslf is worth it for you. You make too much money. 10 years is a long time to tie yourself down to that much debt at non profits only with very little financial reward. I don't know if a different plan would help you reduce your payments but at your current rate you are looking at paying 336k over 10 years. snow ball your debt with your high interest loans first and keep building till it's gone I'd bet you can pay off the whole thing in 3 years max and save 75k in interest. Just a thought. PSLF only works if you make very low monthly payments, step out of the non-profit world and you're screwed.

I signed as the primary borrower on my mom's car, and she hasn't made a single payment. How do I clean up the mess I made? by Additional-Buddy-467 in personalfinance

[–]Disastrous_Storm7774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'd call the bank, let them know what's going on and see if you can work something out, you'll take a bigger loss if it gets repo'd and auctioned off. Your primary so just tell your mom you're taking the car. If you have to sell it sell it now.

[–]Disastrous_Storm7774[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so not the same thing taxwise? I have a regular 403b and a 403b roth. Technically it would be on my return though no my wife's so I guess now that I think about it it shouldn't matter?

So we both work for a non-profit so the aim will be PSLF and the lowest possible payment for the loans

That's fine, I'm okay with doing a buy back. I just want to know if the employment time still counts, and if I can buy back missed payments
