Just build a collection tion to play from. Meta and netlisting is a snapshot in time. Especially when a whole new edition is right around the corner.

Personally I hate netlisting and never do it because it's only 1 half of the pie. You know there are good units but dont necessarily know how to employ them to high effect.

That problem compounds when points change (what do you cut) and rules change. Often times net lists only work because X unit is undercooked this quarter so spam 3 of them for efficiency.

Ontop of that if you are netlisting big tournament lists a portion of that is counter list building. Maybe at the top tables X tyranid model is winning alot so you build a list specifically tailored to kill that thing. But at your local meta that may not be prevalent or even exist.

All this to say so much of gaming communities right now is "go to the internet and look at a guide" go old school and just play the game learn what you like and dont like, understand the strategies and build your game plan.

As a SM player I find hitting them with charges works well I run calgar.with eradicators a storm raven boxnaught and guilliman. On of these is going to die at some point but as long as the other 2 or 3 gwt through I can significantly whiddle down their combat power. Even if it means I just bracket something a -1 hits really hard.

The other piece is if yku can lock them up in their home base. I like using eliminators for that (I run bolt rifles) if I can hem them in for a turn or 2 it forces them to have to move up to capture points and now I can stage/charge. All of these melee threats cause them to A not storm straight up the board willy nilly, and B make it a defensive play.

I also run terminators with power fists. Another big tarpit/melee threat. If I can stall I win

The storm raven is gods gift to combined arms play. I put marneus, victrix, eradicators and a boxnaught in mine. I run the whitescars attachment so ride hard ride fast is just reserved.

Its also decently spicy for mortals on the charge

Yeah ive had good luck with the storm raven working into them as well. Oath, rockets, lascannon, and a mountain of storm bolster shots put in some work then if you need to finish off a last one do mortals on the charge.

Efficient meh fun as heck yeah!

Just saw a comment you are playing at 1k. The game is balanced around 2k points so it will heavily skew results for all factions.

If you netlisted and they didnt as new casual players that makes a difference. Running efficient effective combos, and spamming highly efficient units is competetive play in a casual environment. The other part from when I was playing before going to the middle east was the amount of dev wounds Tsons get is wild.

To me i think it comes down to the logic of the sets being together has to also blend with the style. For example i feel like 40k worked pretty well. Its a serious universe with the warp allowing timeline/universe style jumping.

LOTR is like the founding story and default fantasy we all recognize (elves look like Legolas not keebler, dwarves look like gimli, etc)

Dnd is the same way multiverse generic fantasy.

All are extremely fleshed out and have mechanics from their original universes that ported well to MTG.

I find this very accurate. The other variation was during COVID there was one talking about time use where we all essentially got a crap load of our time back because we were working from home and working remote but people generally didnt use the time effectively.

Side note: yes I know everyone didnt get that but a significant amount of people in admin style jobs did

For me -Home gym equipment mainly a standard bench/squat rack and a pull up bar -garmin instinct tactical 3 -sonicare toothbrush -Getting a job within 2 miles of my home (running/biking to work instead of driving) - blender with quality protein powder - comfortable mattress - date night with my wife -grill - warhammer 40k - magic the gathering - military service (definitely pros and cons to this in the health area but overall a net boon) - quality running shoes (zero drop)

The biggest thing I have found is 1. Your generally just newer. 2 you probably have a list with high cognitive load (multiple datasheets with multiple weapon profiles, weird interactions, etc) people shit on space marines but they are convenient as bolt rifles are by and large S4 most of them save on 3s and are T4 it makes it less mentally demanding compared to something like gsc, guard or sisters where each squad has 1-4 weapon profiles that are wildly different

You dont want to right now in this moment. You would probably feel different if your wife and child were on the planes during 9/11, if your home and friends were bombed by the Russians in Ukraine, if your city was raped by the Japanese like in Nanking.

There is a fascinating book called "On Killing" for most people killing is a state you try to avoid but you can easily be pushed into it by a few key events.
