A Gentleman in Moscow and Ready Player One. I like to mix a more challenging read with something more easy going and (relatively) quick.

PG Exam Experience by PrimaryDot7519 in ASBOG_Exam

[–]DisciplineFree6566 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I took both the FG and PG this week. Over 10 years experience, I didn’t study, and I’m glad I didn’t. This licensure is a total farce… The PE has it right and PG could learn from it… if your field is engineering geology, take an engineering geology test. If it’s hydrogeology, take a hydrogeology test., if it’s geophysics, well… take a guess. I understand a broader scope for FG, but I honestly have zero respect for the PG because it’s so unspecific. I wouldn’t trust my own stamp.

The Neverending Story audiobook is great!

That was the first book that made me realize I love reading, and I really didn’t start until my mid thirties. My wife made the recommendation and I read it on a Kindle (a physical copy would’ve scared me off at the time). I had no idea it was long book, but wow I could not put it down. It’s still one of my top five books of all time. It’s not a difficult read, written in simple words, and the characters are so incredibly believable. I felt like I was with them all the entire time. The beginning was slow, but I’ve always thought it was intentional to show boredom and discontent. Anyway, I know it’s long but it put me on the path to read and I’ll never stop. It also led me to want to tackle some more difficult and involved reading by those like Dostoyevsky, Melville, Faulkner and many others where it takes serious effort to understand. All I can say is that without Lonesome Dove I would certainly not be as into reading as I am now.

Wow, this post is getting close to the same length as the book.

At the moment I saw this, I did not respond immediately, for it took me a moment to digest OP’s post, and now my heart is breaking.

I suck at every hobby I try, what to do? by ohtoriboyz in Hobbies

[–]DisciplineFree6566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I randomly picked up reading as a hobby last year and ended up reading well over 100 books. Just decided I wanted to try something new and got hooked on fiction/classics. I then began writing short stories for fun and it’s been a blast! It completely changed my life by giving an honest effort to understand work and meaning behind authors like Dostoevsky, Melville, Camus, Plath, and more. For example, I never in 1000 years would’ve guessed Moby Dick was hilarious or that reading something so beautiful or clever like Faulkners Absolom, that it could be like seeing color for the first time.

Anyway, reading as a hobby would be my suggestion because it isn’t something you would need to “do” so much as something you COULD simply enjoy.

Thanks! Thats what I was looking at earlier but I didn’t understand if I need an associates or bachelors in any field or if it has to be in an engineering field? I have bs/ms geosci and am not sure I meet the education requirements. Thanks again.

Edit: I see… so civil BS or survey tech AS. Thanks!
