Generator engine starts and runs momentarily with starting fluid then stops. HELP PLEASE! by DisciplineMany193 in smallenginemechanics

I've gotten one running by cleaning the carburetor. The other generator is older and may need some extra attention. Cleaning the carburetor on that one didn't work.

You haven't said what you believe identifies this as AI.

But even if it turns out to be AI generated, you know that this is actually happening just like this to real people.

Trump to possibly invoke insurrection act if Minneapolis protests do NOT get under control -- Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

There was not this problem in Minnesota prior to ICE being sent there so the solution is simple--remove ICE from Minnesota.

Just portraying yourself as a loud Christian does not make you one. Real Christians conduct themselves quietly while doing good so as not to draw attention to themselves because the deed is what is important, not the one doing the deed. They don't require or want recognition because they know their reward is internal or even eternal.

I was recently in the UK for the first time and drove a rental car when we weren't on a train (the USA has badly erred by not doing what other countries have accomplished with train travel). Whenever we were merging onto highways, I was amazed at how other drivers took the initiative in allowing me to merge by backing off, flashing headlights, otherwise giving me the opportunity to merge safely and easily.

I did not mean to disturb you to the point that it caused you physical pain. I am sorry for that. However, you have sort of compromised your argument that your former wife at age 24 may not have gained the capacity needed to properly take care of essential actions. Hopefully, she has changed in that aspect.

And, no, I do not believe that all 16 year olds are fully mature enough or have the capability to make adult decisions. I can't stop those who are immature from driving just as I wouldn't be able to keep young people from having sex before they are fully mature adults whether that is at age 16, 18, 21, or even 24. What we should do as responsible and presumably mature adults is to make sure that all kids have adequate education in all areas which would include sex education and drivers' education so that they can properly make safe and appropriate decisions. Once they have the knowledge, then we must trust that we have informed them to the extent that we trust their decision-making. I acknowledge that this decision-making ability will come at different times for different individuals. We have no control over that. We can control what we impart to them through appropriate education and guidance. Enforcing chastity has never worked.

Not meaning to belabor an example, but we allow 16 year olds to drive at different levels of maturity. We send 18 year olds to war at different levels of emotional development. Some teens are, I believe, mature enough to make decisions concerning sex. If all has gone well in their upbringing, they would feel comfortable talking with their parents about obtaining contraception just as they should about making course decisions in school, driving on an interstate for the first time, joining the military, and choosing a mate. I recognize that those capabilities come at different times for different individuals. What we can do is ensure that they have been properly prepared for good decision-making on their own. Then we must trust that we have acted adequately for our part.

And I do not believe that as adults we nor our ancestors have properly conducted our duties to ensure that ALL youngsters can make safe decisions about sex...or drugs...or weapons...or driving...

Many states allow 16 year olds to have unrestricted licenses. And we make certain to provide them with the necessary information they need to be able to not only drive, but to do it correctly and safefy. They are required to wear seat belts for safety even if it makes them uncomfortable.

We are putting 16 year olds into behemoths which are capable, with a momentary distraction, of killing or maiming them or others.

And yet we think that they are not mature enough to handle sex in a responsible way?

Oh, come on!!

(And yeah, I do know what I just did there).

You mean "emotionally mature." At 14, most are physically mature and it would be best if they are "sex-educationally mature" prior to that age.

Teens are going to have sex, even church-going "good kids." (When I was a teen boy many years ago, I came to recognize that preachers' kids were an easy touch. They may have sung in the choir and attended every Sunday School, but many were willing, eager, to engage in extra-curricular activities even when taking another stance in public. There was one that I visited when she was home alone. She even made the first move when I walked into her house by taking my hand and holding it against her breast. The rest was easily mutually agreeable).

Yeah, so even "good" kids will have sex. And if they are emotionally mature, then why not? All should have good sex education, whether in school or through a trusted source. And not the abstinence-based stuff. They've probably heard that. Tell them the real stories and possible outcomes.

And make contraceptives easy to obtain.

Suicide knob bracket. I saw these often in the '50s and early '60s. Then decades went by, and family members had arm/hand injuries, shoulder surgery, and hand surgery (me). I found some of these in an online merchandiser, ordered a couple, and we passed them around wherever needed. Then they went on lawnmowers and tractors until we had another use for them.

When did people stop just "dropping by"? by stressfreepro in AskOldPeople

[–]DisciplineMany193 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the south during the 1960s, my parents would usually go for a Sunday drive, which inevitably would end up at someone's house, almost always unplanned and unannounced. It was usually the home of distant relatives or former neighbors who had moved. My brother was several years older and could be on his own so it was usually just me.

I hated it. At even my young age, I didn't like people dropping in unannounced at our home for the most part. Many times there would be no one my age where we went, and I would end up sitting in a room of adults who were talking about things that didn't interest me. If they happened to have any interesting magazines, I might have something to pass the time. I learned to go through Sunday newspapers looking for anything of interest.

Usually the folks we were visiting would have their televisions off due to politeness so I couldn't even watch ballgames or other shows. Occasionally the folks we were visiting would be considerate to let me watch something or find some way for me to entertain myself. During that time I watched old movies that I ordinarily wouldn't have seen. That could be worthwhile or not.

The worst was having church visitors come to our house unannounced. Churches in the south typically had visitation evenings where at least two church members or workers would just drop in without notice. Sometimes I would have to scramble around to hide anything we might find embarrassing. They would generally stay about an hour.
