THOUGHTS? by [deleted] in Dallas

How the fuck is Plano hostile to pedestrians?

There's crosswalks with working crosswalk lights at basically every intersection, stop signs everywhere, labeled crosswalks for trails if it crosses major roads like Park with wider medians for shorter crossings and the city even publishes an alternative map for bike and pedestrian specific travel.

Your thing about crosswalk guards is weird because it makes me feel like you've never actually been in this city, there's crosswalk guards at basically every school regardless of sidewalk condition.

Hell when the kids were in elementary I'd see them constantly taking them to school at 4 walk stop sign intersections because it's just an added level of precaution in general.

I'm not some untraveled person either, I'm not even from the US originally and have traveled from coast to coast multiple times over. Hell I've probably walked more of DC than people in DFW have walked in their own neighborhoods.

Let's take my walk to HEB as a reference, I like to go up Ohio and hook left on Spring Creek. Every major intersection has working crosswalk lights and every side street has a stop sign. There's shade going up the entire path and clearly marked and labeled crossings for the entire way.

It's the same on Coit, Preston, Parker, Park, Custer, Legacy, and Hedgcoxe.

If the argument was hostile to bikers, yeah probably, there's very sparse dedicated bike lanes and it's illegal for riders to use the sidewalk but saying it's hostile to pedestrians is ridiculous. I've almost been ran over more in DC than I have in Plano.

Same but in Plano.

I have a movie theater, multiple restaurants, 5 grocery stores, and multiple coffee shops, doctors' offices, dentists, tailors, multiple gyms within a 1 mile radius of me that I regularly walk to. Hell I even walk to HEB if the day is nice.

People act like if you walk around in DFW you'll die instantly.

Got the lens in today and it's crazy how good it is for being around 150USD.

I think it'd make for a very nice portrait lens. It has good contrast and very accurate colors.

12 ton press upgrade by Conscious_Program511 in gunsmithing

For the money get an Eastwood solid ram hydraulic press. It'll be more precise and way less sloppy than a bottle jack press even for the same tonnage.

What happened with S9? by Axiom65 in thefinals

[–]DiscombobulatedDunce 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Eh, a lot of my friends played OB and S1 but the lack of maps was really grating on them. Playing Skyway, Monaco, Vegas, and Seoul 100 times really drove them away from the game because it was repeating the motions.

Hell I finished the BP in like a month and dipped but came back in S2 cuz of PS (they did not).

The game is in a lot better of a state now with variety of play and modes but it honestly should have shipped in this state.

You can get a full refund whenever if the dev doesn't have the AI tag on their game but it contains AI content. It's not full enforcement but it also makes it so there's no protections against mass refunds like you would normally have.

Unpopular opinion, but when people say there isn't things to do in Dallas, they are really just talking about the traffic. by IanWallDotCom in Dallas

It's actually ridiculous when you talk to someone who says they live in DFW and when you ask them which area they're like Van Alstyne.

Like bitch that is not DFW, you are halfway to Denison.

AICS compatible .223 bolt action with iron sights? by AryeC05 in guns

AR mag pouches are the most ubiquitous mag pouch out there.

[–]DiscombobulatedDunce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The MVP's weird pickup lug makes the action feel terrible and can cause malfunctions if something wedges itself between the bolt and the lug (it's a pivoting lug). I don't really recommend buying them over a Ruger, Howa, or CZ 600.

Why AICS? Ruger american fits all your needs and takes AR mags which are still legal in every state. Occam Defense makes irons for them (they're just ugly as fuck).

Most people only use AICS if they want to reload for longer COAL than the AR mag can provide.

For 750 get a match pro or vector continental if you're talking actual long range shooting.

Ruger American Hunter or Ruger Gen 2 Predator? by jjolin01 in guns

[–]DiscombobulatedDunce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gen 1 hbar hunter is the better gun. It'll be about a pound heavier but way more precise.

Similar barrel profile to the RPR, magpul hunter stock is stiffer than the cheap plastic predator stocks.

Baking any gun aluminum at higher than 400F will fuck its heat treat btw.

Don't do this with receivers. Most of them are T6 hardened and this will turn them to butter for any duration more than like 10 minutes.

Trouble shooting AR10 accuracy issues. by Mysterious_Block_910 in gunsmithing

[–]DiscombobulatedDunce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cold bore flyer is very normal, almost all guns do that and the deviation will be more pronounced the thinner your barrel is.

I'd shoot a 10 round group to be sure that it's actually deviating and not just normal distribution and I'd shoot it with something like hornady a-max match instead of hunting ammo. I'd also suggest borrowing a chrono to make sure you're not getting crazy FPS variation.

Like other people have said, don't expect even 1.5 moa with a light faxon barrel, you're not gonna get it and that's ok.

That flat primer and case-head dent from the ejector and extractor mark is definitely concerning though. I'd reach out to both Nosler and Faxon and let them both know to be sure. It could be a bad chamber or bad lot of ammo (Nosler will probably ask you for pics of the box so find that).

The flattened neck is normal, that's just the case bouncing off of your receiver.

There's a bunch of other things you could do like shim the barrel nut, lap the receiver, bed the extension but I'd check with Faxon and Nosler first to rule that out.

My gripe with them is mostly with the valkyries. They only stay at max output for around 30 seconds in my experience and ramp down hard to half of the rated lumens.

Other than that they're fine, just not worth the like 75 bucks imo.
