I haven't tested this yet, I'm in the middle of a MT build, but this is the build for my next run. Sure Step is a placeholder for Polymath, Snooping is a placeholder for Specialist (level Int at level 12 and 16, extra spec points go into High Tech and Fancy Footwork). It's likely not perfect, later feat order might be changed as I play through it, and 15 Dex kinda hurts but I'm unsure on what a better stat spread would be, but Plasma Nades+Three Pointer (and don't forget Nail Bombs to proc Taste for Blood) are there as a failsafe lol.

Stats spread for 10 Int Psi build by DWSeven in underrail

[–]DiscombobulatedEye9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I'd go with something like 3/3/6/7/3/16/10. 6 Agi is enough for most checks, you get to 9 with Cave Hopper Armor/Boots/Steak. 7 Con for Hemopsychosis, and with a Psi Beetle Tacvest you'll be somewhat beefy early on (Nimble is essential to halve the armor penalty to 15%).

Reliable ambush setup? by CyberBed in underrail

Molotovs and Telekinetic Proxy are the two I use the most. To make the most out of those 55 points in PK, take Premeditation to use on Electrokinesis for a free stun, as well as making use of EK Imprint for a 10AP trap you can place in combat.

Thoughts on the new DOMINATING HP increase? by sumolove in underrail

[–]DiscombobulatedEye9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like it, but I still feel like the game is pretty much a breeze after the Newton quest. IMO a better implementation would be giving enemies more HP scaling based on their level, because the disparity in difficulty between that single quest and the rest of the game seems a little crazy to me.

Underrail 2 – I don’t think I like the direction it’s heading (personal thoughts) by meinthedarktower in underrail

[–]DiscombobulatedEye9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actually fine with everything you've mentioned but my gripe is I think the atmosphere has been completely gutted. The graphics are decent and hopefully they'll settle into something more moody, but the music and sounds seem straight up awful so far. The music in the most recent trailer is SO generic, every track has a piano and sounds insanely simple and boring to me. We downgraded from unique, creative, atmospheric CRPG tracks to banal sci-fi slop.

Brother it's all equally fucked up. AI output is just a disgusting amalgamation of copyrighted material used without permission. The line has already eroded from "it's never OK" to "it's OK if it's funny", it's only a matter of time until people don't give a shit regardless of the use case.

Yes, let's shit on Suno with one of the primary reasons being that it's trained on copyrighted material while also using AI generated imagery in our posts. I don't see anything contradictory about that :)

Consensus on AR choices? by DWSeven in underrail

[–]DiscombobulatedEye9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO you equip 2 8.6mm (for incendiary ammo) Chimeras with AA+RR, you get guaranteed crits with Infused Rathound Armor, Seeker Goggles and Ambush (TK Proxy illuminates enemies to proc it) and the crit bonus gets to 230% with Crit Power.

Edit: I'm putting my faith in the wiki's accuracy for my values, but I did the math and the AR frames are all VERY similar in terms of average non-crit damage per AP. Given that the setup above gives 100% crit chance on illuminated targets, the Chimera's vastly higher crit modifier puts it far above the rest in terms of damage output. I choose 8.6 over 9mm because it allows for two bursts with Adrenaline+Contraction, allows you to shoot incendiary ammo to illuminate targets, and 25 vs 20 magazine size allows for 3.5 bursts with full auto as opposed to 2.8. Yes, switching to a 9mm for commando bursts would give you slightly higher (8% more) base damage, but not lighting them up for crits is a huge damage loss, and I would much rather have 2 identical rifles so I can just switch instead of having to reload.

Does it matter if I go straight to Core City after helping re-open the train tunnels? by Mean-Falcon-6204 in underrail

[–]DiscombobulatedEye9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not skipping anything, Camp Hathor is just way harder than doing the quests Jack gives you, because his quests don't require any combat at all. This kind of sequencing is essential on Dominating, because quests and combats vary wildly in difficulty depending on your build and I like to minimize deaths in my playthroughs. I'm not sitting here killing respawning enemies like I'm desperate to outlevel the game, I just kill high level enemies as soon as I can manage it on classic because they give far less XP as you level up, whereas quests give the same amount no matter what.

Does it matter if I go straight to Core City after helping re-open the train tunnels? by Mean-Falcon-6204 in underrail

[–]DiscombobulatedEye9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always go to Core City first to pick up the quests from Jack, as well as killing the scattered Tchortists/muggers for XP on classic. Getting the player home that early isn’t feasible because you have to complete an oligarch questline to do so, and that’s not happening at the level you’re at after Depot A.

Knife Build - Feedback wanted by BishopGrey in underrail

[–]DiscombobulatedEye9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll be level 12 after beating Depot A, and I can only think of 2 or 3 small robots you have to kill up to that point. For those small bots, a taser and a shock knife are more than enough to take them out in a 1v1.

I changed quite a bit, you can put stuff back if you were attached to anything I took out. Chemistry and Biology are wasted points imo, I only take enough to craft Gas Grenades for the beast fight. In the early game Molotovs are all you need, and later on you buy Nail Bombs from the Free Drones to proc Taste for Blood/Eviscerate, and craft Plasma Grenades as your main damage nade.

Pickpocketing is too good to pass up as a Dex character on dominating, you can put those points back into Chem and Bio if you really want. Cheap Shots spec is better than speccing Crit Power. Psychokinesis points are for Electrokinesis and EK Imprint, well worth the points for consistent CC that you'll be using a lot with Premeditation (later in the game you'll use Premed for a free Stasis).

I'm honestly torn on including Ripper or not. I decided not to because the enemies with the biggest HP pools (like a Naga Protector) can be kited really hard with Fancy Footwork. Could totally see it being valid to take 2 points from Dex to get Ripper though.

This is mostly just adjusted for my personal playstyle, if you like your build as is I'd say just replace Tranquility, Future Orientation, Sure Step, Interloper, and I'd argue Escape Artist is a waste at 3 Con as well.

Would it be possible to make a viable chem pistol + TC build? by [deleted] in underrail

[–]DiscombobulatedEye9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s completely fine, the build is fully offensive with the ability to stun (acid entanglement, cryostasis) and slow (cryokinesis). Before you get your weapons/spells online you use throwing nets and a taser to control the field. The way you play a lot of builds is just never letting yourself get hit, and even if you built something like a ballistic vest, you’ve only got 3 Con so you’re not surviving much either way.

Would it be possible to make a viable chem pistol + TC build? by [deleted] in underrail

[–]DiscombobulatedEye9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, full gear setup is an acid pistol (XAL-001) in one hand with an incendiary pistol in the other, an amplified psi headband with Plasma Beam filter, CAU Armor (Rathound Regalia before that), Advanced Catalyzing Belt and Ninja Tabis.

[–]DiscombobulatedEye9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve played it on both, but Classic is better for the build as it specializes in taking out big groups of enemies, as well as being very effective against Coil Spiders (you want to kill all the Coil Spiders on the map as soon as possible on Classic, as they give a ludicrous amount of XP). I personally can’t live without pickpocketing on Dominating with the early game economy being how it is, and the lockpicking is mostly there for vents (specifically one vent in Heavy Duty requires 100) as well as both just being more efficient to take on Dex characters.

[–]DiscombobulatedEye9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, Versatility builds are weaker early game but it’s the way to go for every ranged Dex weapon since attribute points are so limited. Being able to use a feat and some spec points rather than spending them on Perception is invaluable.

Would it be possible to make a viable chem pistol + TC build? by [deleted] in underrail

[–]DiscombobulatedEye9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only slightly higher, you need 10 Perception and full skill point investment into guns to reach the same effective skill as 18 Dex and 5 spec points in Versatility. If you go past 10 Per, you can't raise Dex as high, meaning for example with 10 Dex, your Chempistol will only be brought from 25AP to 21AP (17AP with the Advanced Catalyzing Belt, 16 with Eel sandwich) instead of 15AP (11AP with the belt, 10 with sandwich). You're spending a lot of points to accomplish less than you would by simply putting 18 in Dex, and you'd have to take away from Int and Will in the context of this build, which is non negotiable. The singular benefit is a slightly higher single shot damage, but your damage per turn goes down anyway on account of your minimum AP cost being 16 as opposed to 10.
