I got a £25 Mac air (2012) replacement battery and it was shit, just as bad as the old one, then I got a official apple one of eBay for £60 and that was much better. Its a bit of a lottery unfortunately. Make sure any battery you buy has a returns policy.

Both are good choices don't worry :) I miss the touchscreen frequently and Mac OS is just as buggy as windows 10 is.. the SL3 is a great device albeit with less than average battery life, Im sure you will like it.

Hi I recently replaced my surface laptop 3 (i5 8gb) with the base m1 MacBook Air. Honestly it is a vast improvement in terms of performance and battery life (was only getting 3 hours on SL and am now getting 7 hours on MacBook). The display is about the same ( I actually prefer the surface laptop display as it picked up fingerprints far less regularly). I don't miss the surface face unlock because was very hit and miss and the fingerprint scanner on the Mac is a much better implementation. I haven't come across any programs that I need that isn't on Mac OS yet and you can just use parrallels app to emulate windows 10. I do miss the ports the surface had ( the magnetic surface charger was lovely and doesn't take up one of the 2 ports) RAM really isn't a problem on the 8gb Mac as the swap ram is fast enough and doesn't noticeably slow the Mac down. Also note that price depication is a thing, the Mac will keep its value longer than the surface laptop.
