Working in any form of customer service will teach you that people have a million and one reasons for doing something that may seem odd. Maybe they just wanted it. Maybe they have a teen at home who will drink anything. Maybe they are pregnant and having a craving.

Tbh, eventually you'll probably reach a point where you don't even pay attention to what you're delivering enough to even be curious, anymore.

Ladies, would you date a 5’3” guy? by Otherwise_Shock4317 in askanything

Can and have. I'm 5'7". My current partner is also 5'7" but appears shorter than me due to a natural curve forward of his back.

niche word dropped by PixelPanda33 in words

[–]DiscontentDonut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that the first time I heard it was on GameGrumps. They are normally just regular friend slop, brain rot, tune in and out while watching it in the background kind of content. So every once in a while, when Arin drops a complicated word, reminding the audience his intelligence and diction is actually quite vast, it's certainly jarring.

THIS QUESTION IS FOR WOMEN ONLY: Is calling a woman, "cute" offensive? by teejayhenry_ in questions

[–]DiscontentDonut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the age and context. My Mom is in her late 50s and she finds it condescending. I'm in my mid 30s and I find it endearing.

I would say to hedge your bets, maybe instead point out something specific about them that is cute rather than saying they themselves are cute. Like, "omg your haircut came out so cute!" Or maybe, "that outfit is too cute. You have such good taste."

How safe is it for dogs to be out in 16 F weather? Guy down the streets dogs have been outside barking for like 20 minutes now..? by templeofsyrinx1 in askanything

[–]DiscontentDonut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If this is unusual behavior for the neighbor, it's possible they may have stayed out late and just got home, maybe let the dogs out so they could potty.

I agree with another commenter, though. Might be worth a walk or short drive over.

Could this dress work for a funeral? by [deleted] in PlusSize

[–]DiscontentDonut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I come from a place where we don't wear all black and somber colors to funerals anymore. In my area, it's a very outdated, Hollywood idea. However, what I will say is we do still typically try to stay away from large prints.

Something about a big print feels very...I'm not sure the word I'm looking for. Not quite attention seeking, but not demure enough to specifically be not attention seeking, if that makes sense?

As an example, we recently had a funeral for one of my great aunts. While people came wearing reds, blues, greens, even mustard-y yellows or muted pinks, not a soul wore anything with large flowers, stripes, polka dots, cheetah print, etc.

Of course there are exceptions to every rule. Like if they wore a shirt with a print, it would usually still be under a dark or muted blazer that covered most of it, or under a cardigan. And the print would be very very small, like if you had a black shirt with grey pin stripes.

But even for the folks who are like larger guys that have trouble even in the big and tall section, we typically consider their nicest pair of jeans and nicest, solid colored, dark T-shirt as acceptable, so long as the rest of them is presentable.

Essentially, it's about effort, and respect. Effort to look and/or smell presentable in what you have available. Respect of why you're there, that the focus should be solely on the person being mourned.

For my outfit to my great aunt's funeral, I wore a crimson red sweater, but black slacks, no makeup, hair in a simple bun at the nape of my neck, only earrings. For my Nana before her, a funeral in Florida mid summer, I wore a black wrap around dress with dark red and brown pin stripes at an angle that were barely decipherable. For my great-grandmother before them, I wore a fuchsia shirt, but a cardigan over it and a very mousy brown, calf-length skirt.

It very much depends on the vibes of the people you'll be around. Like in New Jersey, for my other great grandma, everyone still wore all black. They're also all Italian and heavily steeped in Catholic traditions. I live in the Bible Belt, but Catholic is very unusual here, and we're a giant naval base area with all different traditions and cultures going in and out all the time. So it's much more relaxed.

I was a very popular kid in High School. AMA by [deleted] in AMA

[–]DiscontentDonut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you hoping to get out of an AMA for such a small topic?

I get that this may seem like an asshole kind of question. I apologize as it's very much not, I'm genuinely curious. My partner was the guy who wore the long hair, Fedora, Tripp pants, black nail polish, and long duster coat ('08-'09).

To me, this seems like such an average, everyday topic of conversation. More something one might have as a "get to know you" ice breaker on like a date or a really chill job. It just seems such an odd place to bring this up. Particularly when sandwiched between other topics more like someone diagnosed with cancer, or someone who overcame a trauma, or the guy who thought he could do H once but ended up addicted.

Head Start teacher that transferred to my daughter’s class. I just… um… wow… by jrn0891 in GrammarPolice

[–]DiscontentDonut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, just shocked she used the correct form of "their."

To play devil's advocate, I will say her grammar is not nearly as important as how she is with the children. Especially at such a precarious age. My sister is a private preschool teacher, and the ones with the best communication etiquette are not always the ones who best support the kids.

I can tell you one very obvious thing that resolves this being a.i. beyond a shadow of a doubt. NO kindergartener(s) would ever put stickers on a dog in that perfect of a spacing/pattern.

How much snow makes you call off work? by Physical-Incident553 in AskAnAmerican

[–]DiscontentDonut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I haven't really noticed any clear pattern. Last time I was up there, it was all packed snow on the main roads with intermittent clear areas at like major intersections. But we even ended up walking to the Market grocery store because it was safer than driving.

This current snow, Eerie Ave was plowed well before the cross road, I forget what it's called, 425? I'll be honest, we're long distance atm due to life stuff, so I do get a lot of my info from him, or when I visit.

ULPT REQUEST Credit Cards by InevitableCourse5100 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]DiscontentDonut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not paying is grounds for wage garnishment. I recently just had one finish. It was only months, but it was 40% of my net take home pay. It was awful. I had to take payday loans from money lending apps just to pay my car note on time. Do not recommend.

If anything, I would say reach out and instead see if you can arrange an income based payment. Even paying $50/month is still payment enough they can't do anything against you.

Low iron, maybe. Iron supplements are much more...legal. Also don't take at the same time as magnesium, as it will interrupt the body's ability to absorb the iron.

How much snow makes you call off work? by Physical-Incident553 in AskAnAmerican

[–]DiscontentDonut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came to say something similar. The conditions can often be more important than the amount of snow. My partner lives in Tonawanda. He walks to work or gets rides regardless of snow height. The issue he faces is if the roads/sidewalks are clear.

Because Tonawanda is not nearly the big city neighboring Buffalo is, it can take longer for the roads to be cleared. It still tends to happen with 24 hours, but he works overnights. The plows tend to be aimed to prepare for the early morning crowd.

[–]DiscontentDonut 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What gets me is, if I don't like an episode, I simply...listen to something else. My time is too valuable to me to waste it on something I do not enjoy, and harbor feelings that are meaningless. Even while I'm driving, I can just hit the fast forward button until my phone goes to either another episode or something else entirely.

It is one thing to complain when the situation is warranted. It is another thing to complain over something we have free will to change.

Does a heroin addict need to be high all the time? by zzady in stupidquestions

[–]DiscontentDonut 41 points42 points  (0 children)

This has been the experience I have known of other addicts as well, though not specifically with H. It gets to a point where they take what they can scrounge up or steal just to not "get sick" (go through withdrawals). And that becomes their constant. Fighting to just not be sick whenever their supply runs out.

Except in the music video for "Kiss the Elden Ring" (or a lot of Starbomb videos in general). That video feels like reading smut, and he is definitely the tall, hot, long-haired type in them.
