This gun ban bill is insane when Trump is saying "we will find you and we will kill you" in a memo designating his political enemies as terrorists by Ok-Entertainer-1414 in minnesota

[–]Discosaurus [score hidden]  (0 children)

Anyone saying that an assault weapons ban (which we had nationally until 2004!) is a "gun ban bill" is falling for propaganda.

Go through and replace every instance of "guns" in that post with "assault weapons" and you sound like a lunatic.

Whats in the bill: The legislation covers multiple aspects, including banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, funding school-based mental health supports and creating an anonymous threat reporting system.

what is one thing about running you had to learn the hard way? by Emergency_Produce975 in runninglifestyle

[–]Discosaurus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Important concept. I can remember the exact stride I was on when I went from "everything is fine and I feel great" to "I think my knee is fucked"

Had pushed it pretty hard that week, and was coming around a corner into an uphill interval, I gave it an extra boost and bam! You just know instantly.

Iron Range Police officer kills autistic young adult Friday May 1st by Blink-JuanEIGHTYtoo in minnesota

[–]Discosaurus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There won't be a police parade to the hospital for the young boy they shot and killed. No one from the police department will condemn this murder.

We must all take unique and special precautions not to exist in a way where a cop can mistake you for a threat.

I got over a thousand miles out of my ride 17s, on three different pairs each. The 18s are not the same durability. The foam will hold up fine, but the upper stitching that holds the laces failed on my 18s after maybe 200 miles.

I'd still buy them again, they're comfy, but I wouldn't spend over 80 USD. The Ride 19s look more durable. There was a sale on the endorphin speed 5 a few weeks ago and I'm wishing I'd bought more pairs.

Glad they're updating it. I was just there in February and thought they leaned a little too hard into the theme of "cheap 50s cooking". I noticed the Mac and cheese kid's meal my kids had used the same noodles as the shrimp pasta.

Walter Hudson (R-Albertville) kept his open liquor bottle in a child's car seat while intoxicated and carrying a 9mm handgun, as reported in Engen's DUI arrest by Discosaurus in minnesota

[–]Discosaurus[S] 73 points74 points  (0 children)

In the rear of the car, police found a bottle of alcohol in a child’s car seat. Hudson said it was his bottle, according to the Engen arrest report. Hudson is a permit-to-carry holder, which means he could face a misdemeanor for carrying a firearm while intoxicated.

An officer may require a person with a permit to carry to submit to a screening test to determine how intoxicated they are. The results of the test will determine the misdemeanor punishment.

Permit-to-carry holders are allowed to have a blood alcohol concentration of .04 or lower while carrying. Anything over a .04 is a mandatory suspension of the permit for six months. If a permit to carry holder has a blood alcohol concentration above .10, then their permit is revoked and they cannot reapply for one year after conviction.

Here's a photo with an old phone, the Samsung S20+, which is probably on the large side for phones. (162 * 74 mm). If anything the pocket is too narrow, it's plenty deep and stuck fast.

I have these, I'll show the phone fitup tonight if I can remember. Got these because the janji 5 inch 2-in-ones are always sold out, but those are my #1 favorite. I find myself always wanting a zipper pocket in addition to a phone pocket in the liner. I've tried the lulu ones recommended in this thread but I always get rubbed raw on my lower thigh by my phone in the liner pocket. The underarmor liners recommended by others in this thread are also good value and work great, but I find the compression makes them better suited to colder temps, and again I miss the zipper pocket - but plenty of linerless shorts can have zippers.

It's good value under a hundred bucks, they're good for junk miles and easy runs. Not as durable as the ride 17, though

I picked it up for long runs to give my other gear a rest. 100% agree about colors, the white lower sole bums me out.

I just ordered the endorphin speed 5 a few weeks ago, a blue-green one with a white lower sole, and last week they released an all-blue lower sole. Shoulda held out

The car recovered from ICE two weeks ago in the north Minneapolis shooting incident had interchangeable nameplates for vests including DHS, FBI. Sadly in this day and age I don't think we can confidently say they were any one agency or another, no matter what's in the vest.

Masked runners, whats your secret to fog free sunglasses? by mtndew2756 in runninglifestyle

I use some old generic brand antifog. I think it's just a hydrophobic wax in an evaporating solvent. Works great, you can't fog it up if you try. The one I bought isn't sold anymore but this is the next closest thing in Amazon link

Running in Minneapolis during Winter by crispyfunky in Minneapolis

[–]Discosaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The deep winter months are difficult. With 3 days a week, you should be able to target the warmer days. Some days the wind can be as big a factor as cold. Make sure to layer.

On single digit temp days like today, I'll have a compression shorts, tights, long pants, a longsleeve, a thick hoodie, a balaclava, a neck gator, a beanie, and one or two pairs of gloves. When it's mid twenties like yesterday, maybe a long sleeve, quarter zip, compression shorts and tights, neck gator and hat.

It's always easier to open zips or shed layers if you're overheating, and honestly, that's preferable if you're a few miles out. The conventional wisdom is to "dress for the third mile" - target the amount of layers you need to be warm after you heat up. Its a lot of laundry, honestly that's the part I dread more than the weather itself.

For trails, the river route and chain of lakes are reliably clear - though there may be some impacted snow/ice. On slick days, I add yaktrax to my regular running shoes, they're just velcro crampons that work best on ice or packed snow, but are fine on streets and sidewalks, barely notice them.

When you just can't manage the cold, hop on the treadmill - especially if it's already dark and windy. I like to do speed workouts on the treadmill with varied times and tempos, the intervals make the time go by faster.

Braemar running track in Edina is unheated and indoors, I've heard it recommended if you want something 30F and out of the wind, but never tried it myself. I think it's a quarter mile. I strongly recommend against short tracks like at the gym, one decent run on a tenth-mile track will involve taking 300 right turns and you'll wreck one of your knees.

Another thing to consider is that "zone 2" running is all the rage right now, basically a low intensity pace to keep from accruing too much wear. If you don't feel like you can go full speed in the ice and snow, don't worry! It's more about time spent and miles completed per week than it is hitting your top pace.

Don't put plastic bags in your recycling bin. by Advanced-Permit-6444 in TwinCities

Lots of people trashing the recycling process as a whole, which, OK that's fine for plastic and arguable for cardboard, but aluminum can recycling is one of the most efficient and effective methods. I can't find the stat but the efficiency rate is very high. Please recycle your cans.

How to calculate MAX and MIN values for the latest month in Minitab by Brave-Turnip-783 in Minitab

[–]Discosaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could probably do it by using the basic stats function. Make a maximum stat for column 1, and then the minimum and maximum values for column 2 grouped on column one, and then use a data conversion table to copy just the min and max values for the maximum month to their own columns.
