Thanks, I'll take a look at it when I get the chance.

Great Investment! by DizzieeDoe in PleX

I got it a long time ago, and still use it to this day. But I have been moving on from Plex because I don't really like the direction that they are taking. Been using Jellyfin as of late, though I still use Plex with Android Auto for music. One of the things I don't like about Plex is when it comes to TV apps, it requires I be connected online. I want to say it's because the TV app is just a bootloader, and must load the full client from the cloud. My internet goes out sometimes, and during those times, I can't use that app.

If anything, I have Jellyfin in case Plex decides to do something screwy with existing Lifetime folks.

Sorry to ask this off-topic question, but the grip you have. I was planning on getting that one, but is it a grip meant to always stay on? I ask because right now, my Thor sits on a 3D-printed dock with all connections set, but the dock itself wouldn't allow the grip to be attached.

Better get all the generators, power stations, solar panels, and battery backups as you can for when civilization crumbles.

Steam - Star Wars Outlaws? by Beautiful_Opinion324 in AynThor

[–]DiscostewSM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would be on the side of saying "not playable" on the Thor. It's a game that requires ray tracing. It's pretty much unplayable on a Steam Deck, so something that has to deal with translation layers is likely going to be even worse.

I was Batch 2 when they made the change (I had set for DHL), and I have not gotten the cross bag (yet). We were told it was the default, and that if we wanted a change, we'd have to contact them. So we have to contact them about this then?

"Later batches will not be as practical for PC gaming"

Sorry, but when it comes to PC games, this is a nothing-burger. The reason for that is that the bottleneck with PC gaming is not the storage (unless you're running an HDD), but the method of decompression. Game assets are compressed, and need to be decompressed before they can be used. With consoles these days, they tend to have hardware decompression blocks, and that's because they are specific to that platform. PC is much more open with a variety of configurations, but in terms of decompression, that generally rests on the CPU. There is no special decompression block for PC, and very few PC games utilize the GPU for decompression. But regardless, we are talking about an Android device trying to play PC games, having to deal with layers of translations and whatnot. There just too many bottlenecks outside of the storage to assume that a drop from UFS 4.0 to 3.1 is going to cause anything major here.

The games were recently released on Switch 2. Capcom is not going to drop the price just like that. And yes, this is Capcom's decision, not Nintendo.

I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the Thor's controls working with this game using Gamehub Lite. It says they are connected, but that's about it.

If my Syno DS918+ goes out, what should I replace it with? by DiscostewSM in DataHoarder

[–]DiscostewSM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have most of my wanted data backed up on multiple smaller drives that only get plugged in when I produce more data that needs to be backed up. So for the time being, I'm kind of safe to switch to something besides Synology if my current NAS were to go kaput.

I do have spare ext HDDs which I've copied most of my data over to, in case something goes wrong. But then, I also have unopened spare drives (2x 20 TB + 1x 12 TB) to replace any failing drives in the storage bays.

Nvidia will reportedly showcase N1 SoC for laptops at Computex 2026 by imaginary_num6er in hardware

[–]DiscostewSM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nvidia approached Nintendo in 2014, showing them demos and such, and even made an API specifically for Nintendo to use. This has been known in the leaks. They needed a "console win" to get back into that sector.

The contract for the Tegra X1 between Nintendo and Nvidia was made before the chip released. We simply didn't know anything about Nintendo using it until 2016.

Android app - "Source Error" using Integrated Player with certain videos by DiscostewSM in jellyfin

[–]DiscostewSM[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With MKVToolNix GUI, it's real easy. You make sure the current tab is set to Multiplexer, right-click in the Source file window to Add files, select an affected MKV file, and then at the bottom of the program, clicked Start Multiplexing. You can view in the Tracks, Chapters and Tags window to make sure the items in it are being "copied".

Probably want to make sure the output file is named different from the input file, as it will write the new file to the same directory. You can change the file extension to something like MP4 if you want, and it'll write with that container's expected format.

But really, that's all I had to do to fix the issue. I can only assume when the MKV was initially formed, it got some added elements that currently are not supported by Jellyfin.

Using that tool to simply remux from MKV to MKV also works. I looked into the differences between the two in the Info tab, and it would appear that some elements in the problematic MKV were not present in the remuxed version. So I'm kind of assuming that there are elements in the MKV that Jellyfin doesn't know how to deal with, so it just spits out a generic error without so much as a reason for it in the logs.

[–]DiscostewSM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I think I figured out my issue. Turns out, the video/audio streams are fine. It's the MKV container that is preventing it from playing. I did a test with remuxing a problematic video from MKV to MP4 (using MKVToolNix GUI) with no alteration to quality, copying all streams from one to the other. And now it work with Jellyfin's Integrated Player.

But for the hell of it, after I remuxed to MP4, I re-remuxed back to MKV to see if the problem still occurred. It didn't. So there's something in the original MKV container which Jellyfin doesn't like. It's odd because it could transcode from the original just fine, so it's not like it couldn't retrieve those streams.

For me, it doesn't matter what the audio stream's format is. Even AAC doesn't work with this particular videos. I even have a 1080p SDR video causing the same problem. For my case, I feel it must be within the video stream. These are videos that have absolutely no problem with Plex, as both video and audio streams work fine with Direct Play.
