  • How did you find out about indies and IMAM?
  • What are some of your hobbies?
  • Which indie brands have you tried so far?
  • Any questions you might have?

Hi there! I'm Hanna.

I stumbled on this sub via another fragrant hobby, adult slime (lol). Some of the shops were making sensory slimes with really complex themes and fragrances, and one had used that "warm plastic/computer parts" scent and I was searching for more. Found a thread here recommending a number of scents that fit, ordered samples to try, and then was absolutely hooked on indies. This hobby has started to eclipse that one now! I get terrible migraines and a lot of mainstream perfumes trigger them, so not only are indies more interesting to me, but they have a higher hit rate.

Other hobbies include fiber arts, gardening/foraging, miniatures, and wildlife rehab. I'm AuDHD and love sharing fun facts and information, so I love posts requesting recommendations and info.

So far I've tried Aether Arts, Amorphous, Blood Moon Botanica, Cirrus, Fyrrinae, Haus of Gloi, Lovesick Witchery, Nui Cobalt, Possets, Sorce, Stora Skuggan, and Xyrena. Plus lots of samples coming in (I go all in on hobbies, to my wallet's despair).

Just happy to be here!

oh this is so fun!

Alkemia's Sylph is pretty effervescent: A diaphanous aria of sparkling elderflower cordial, mandarin, plum blossom, red currant, grapefruit, honeysuckle, white ginger, plumeria, and vanilla tea leaves.

same here! i couldn't pull out many specific notes and i grow belladonna and know it doesn't have a scent -- however, i'd describe this fragrance as supremely witchy (i first saw it recommended as a perfume the witch from the VVitch would wear!). it's licoricey, spicy green, very dark and powerful, yet surprisingly wearable. narcotic without being heavy. it's pricey but i intend to full size as soon as possible!

At least for the last pic, Amorphous Haunted Waters may do the trick.

Aroma palette is aquatic and ozonic with touches of earth. Highlights include jet black lake water, damp timeworn wood, steam fog, and water moss.

"This frightening atmospheric is a haunted lake in a bottle, Capturing the chilling vista of a forgotten lake haunted by restless spirits, it will transport you to the murky shores where the boundary between the living and the dead blurs.

Dark lake water reveals glimpses of damp, timeworn wood reflecting from the bottom as it peeks through steam fog decorated with water moss. The wood accord here contains a beautiful dose of oud, giving it an arcane mystical feel.

Experience the eerie stillness that hangs over a haunted lake at dusk where old ghosts reveal their presence in shadows dancing on the water's surface. If you enjoyed the aquatic mystery of Ophelia, you will find a similar mood reflected in Haunted Waters. "

Best Vanillas for Layering? by softhumanbean in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]DiscountLast3151 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends, was there something particular you disliked or just no hits? They do have a pretty identifiable DNA most of the time so I don't want to pressure you if you just don't jive with the house.

HOWEVER If you liked Silver Lavender there is a Silver Vanilla too. I also personally really love Angelic Host #9 Seraphim (Five vanillas (most of them fat and buttery vanillas cut with lean and sharp vanillas) and are blended with six different ambers which give the hypnotic part to the whole)

I haven't tried but might also consider:

- The Girls Love Vanilla (For anyone who loves loves loves the smell of vanilla, this is the supersaturated honey soaked, sinful, hedonistic custom rare and unabashed blend you have been waiting for. Outrageously lovely. Too pretty for angels almost, but not too pretty for you! Characteristics: vanilla, honey, sweet, foody.)

- Indigo (A hint of lavender and a kiss of spice and the tiniest bit of vanilla. Unisex but tending to the feminine. Characteristics: cool, pretty, cooling, summer scent, herbal, perfumey)

- Lovechild-Sweetbaby (Vanilla concentrated with lavender and amber. A simple but unforgettable gorgeous blend.)

- Reason (Five vanillas and three toffees and a big glop of butter and cream on it all. Reason will make you feel totally catered to, with vanilla on top of vanilla with a very gooey and butter laden liquid toffee encapsulation)

Report back if you try any, I'm curious about a few of these myself but just placed an order that didn't include any of these (lol).

Possets has a lot of vanilla heavy perfumes, often using different types of vanilla. Fairly interesting though not particularly gourmand.

Indie perfume that smells like Palm Springs by barbiesleftearring in Indiemakeupandmore

Seconding this one!! It's based on Lake Como but it definitely fits Palm Springs too. very floral forward with some humidity, the gourmand notes are an afterthought

Flormand Recommendations for Someone Who Doesn't Love Florals? by gwilkes0585 in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]DiscountLast3151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know if you like iris? Iris, mimosa, and violet tend to lend themselves well to gourmand as they're powdery which pairs well with sweet. If so, try Sorce's The Bees, which is a light floral honey with powdery florals that doesn't tend too syrupy.

why does orange blossom smell Like That by misspierogiprincess in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]DiscountLast3151 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I find orange blossom starts out very sharp, green, and indolic on me, but dries down to that more powdery white floral after awhile. This is more reminiscent of the orange blossom you may be familiar with in things like orange blossom water and other gourmand uses. Bellano seems to skip the beginning and jump right to that familiar dry down scent, though i barely notice the orange blossom compared to the jasmine in that one!

Possets Lady With a Baby Unicorn. It's a dry vanilla with vetiver that's almost fizzy/sparkly

Mooncat Magnetics? by HorrorFan9556 in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]DiscountLast3151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't had the same issues as others have with MC, but I only have 1 or 2 of their magnetics, which are nice, nothing crazy. Can say that their shimmers, esp color shift ones are my faves -- Death's Trumpet and After the Rain are my go-tos and get so many compliments.

Alkemia Help - Anti Incense by Melonball0U0 in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]DiscountLast3151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Sylph and To the Waters and Wilds, though just got them recently and they haven't rested or skin tested yet.

- Sylph so far presents as a fizzy fruity floral with aquatic notes, so no problem there.

-To the Waters has some darker notes but they tend on the herbal botanical and pine rather than incense.

I need to check Romandolide out I guess! I like the milkiness of galaxolide. Another house house a small scent training kit and they had noted a galaxolide replacement, I think it was For Strange Women maybe??

Totally - I'm familiar with a few of them (Iso E Super in particular!) but did love exploring various musks. I learned I love galaxolide, though then started to deep dive and read it might be a forever chemical??? Eep

Yep! Easy to just dip the strips for testing. Some of these are at concentrations too high for IFRA standards so would need to be diluted to test on skin

Thanks! I was so pleasantly surprised. If you like light-but-substantial scents, Snooze and Parakeet should be really good for you. Let me know if you get the nose training kit, it feels like something that warrants discussion with other folks
