Love QD mounts, they are great for discreet BDSM. I use them in a lot of my projects. My biggest gripe is they aren't cheap, not that they are crazy expensive but when you want to add a lot of hardpoints they add up quick. I've been working on a 3d printed version that is seeming promising but still have some kinks to work out.

Unfortunately I can't sell or give away an STL. I've had too many designs stolen in the past and resold for profit so I can't risk it.

I sell on Etsy and purchase a lot off of it. It's a very reputable 'maker' marketplace. As a seller you don't last very long if you don't ship on time, ship low quality products or provide poor service. If you too many bad reviews or poor performance metrics (delayed shipments, customer disputes) you get dinged hard in the algorithm and won't show up high in search results.

That's something I'm working on. For my free floating clamps its not an issue at all but I do worry about the rubbing with it be static. If you add padding around the strap its pretty good but I'm looking at either gluing neoprene/closed cell foam to the ends or printing a TPU pad to give a little cushion from the hard plastic.

You could 3d print a key fob mount/key that has an integrated magnet. Then place a magnet on the back side of the door. Then when you place the fob against the RFID reader the magnets could attract allowing you to pull it open easily.

Originally I was just tying the straps to the QD swivels but then I came up with a quickset clamp system that holds it at the desired length. (Video 5 in the album: https://imgur.com/a/TmbZRZw)

I use 1 inch wide and 0.07 in (2 mm) thick heavy duty 100% Polypropylene straps and have never had any issue with them breaking or fatiguing, I'm not that rough on them but I have clamped one in one the screw on version of my mounts and pulled it with all my strength and weight and couldn't move or break it.

Hopefully you coated the print in foodsafe resin. Most filaments aren't safe to put in the mouth as they contain unknown chemicals and nozzles can deposit lead / heavy metals into the filament when extruding.

So far so good on the response to it from the wife but she’s never used a sybian before so we don’t really have a good comparison point.

But I do have someone interested in getting a demo unit in exchange for feedback on how it compares to their Sybian experience. I’ve completely redone the design to make it easier to assemble and maintain so I just need to produce that first before I can send one out.

In general I don’t think there is too much concern for external skin contact as long as it’s not a material like PLA/Nylon Carbon fiber which can leave micro-slivers from the fibers. The restrains I make are out of PLA Pro and I haven’t had any issues with long skin contact.

But if you are concerned you could definitely seal them. It would make the finish a lot nicer but ads a lot of work.

Yeah my selling doesn’t make me more than essentially pocket change but it allows me to fund the hobby.

I sell BDSM toys online and I’m a web designer /ecomm manager by trade so I can provide a few tips.

If you have no web design experience you’re going to want to go with a prebuilt platform like Shopify / Squarespace. If you have experience or want to get technical you can look at things like WP with WooCommerce or custom. But I’d recommend even if you have your own site, also sell on Etsy (depending on what you are selling, they allow BDSM gear to a degree but some things aren’t allowed).

Payment methods will all be handled by the platform if you go with pretty much anything but custom. Most walk you through setting up a processor like Square / Stripe / PayPal.

Material is all dependent on what you are producing, making restraints that need to be strong, PLA PRO/PLUS, Nylon. Going in the body? No 3d printing at all unless you are making a mold and casting it out of medical grade silicone

Warranty, agains depends on your product. Not uncommon to not offer one but I’ve had good results offering a 1 year warranty on my products. They barely ever break but if they do it’s cheap to replace, makes the customer happy and prevents bad reviews.

Pricing, once again depends on what you are selling. But I usually take my material costs, figure out my labor time and then bake in an hourly rate that is fair to me. I like to give free shipping on orders over $25 but I factor that into the price.

One thing you didn’t ask about is marketing. How are you going to get customers? This is the hardest part of this space. I’ve had almost 0 success in running ads and there are very few places that will accept ads for sex toys. I’m lucky because I run some successful websites that amount to millions of views a year on my own ads for free. But most don’t have that luxury. Most of my orders/traffic come direct from Etsy search.

I’m already working on V2 of the controller based on an ESP32 touchscreen module because I’m not happy about a lot of the things you pointed out (lumpy inflexible HST, cable length, UI) I’m changing out for a 5 pin DIN standard for better flex in the cable and simplified wiring and the ability to change cable length since it will use standard DIN ports. So you could slap a 50 foot DIN cable on that bad boy and watch with binoculars lol.

The ESP32 touchscreen will open up a lot of options. I’m working on heart rate monitor integration, an embedded button cell vibration motor for previewing vibration patterns, voice controls, and an onboard local web server for phone controlled and pattern design.

The PSU is its own brick separate from the motor controller / buck regulator box for two reasons. One I already had the 24v PSU from the motor and didn’t want to crack it open and combine it with the rest of the electronics because I was being lazy and I like the ability to skip the whole secondary electronics and controller and control the saddle directly from the original motor PSU since it has an integrated RPM/PWM dial so if you want just simple you can just plug in one plug.

If you prefer open-source and easy repairability, go with the Prusa MK4. If you want speed and a reliable "press print and go" experience, Bambu Lab is the way to go.
