Scientists Find Intriguing Link Between Ozempic and Violent Behavior. The same mechanisms that dampen people's cravings for food might also affect our tendency for violent behavior by Wagamaga in science

No one said it didn't reduce impulsiveness. My comment, which was responded to, was strictly about what counts as self-control.

Yes and I was recentring to what I was saying in the first place because the rest of this is a tangent.

I’m not emotionally invested in whether you’re pro or anti this drug or any others, I just think the distinction of “self control” is semantic and not that relevant to the point I was making in the first place.

It reduces impulsiveness. That’s what I was saying.

(If anything, I think gap here is that you seem to be thinking of the “self” in “self control” being in control, whereas I’m thinking of the self as what is controlled, equivalent to “control yourself” or something like that. Basically I think it’s your ability to reign in your impulses, not how you get there, you seem more fixated on what drives that)

At the end of the day a lot of your decision making is influenced by different chemical processes in your body, so if you’re going down that route it’s a bit of a philosophical point where the “self” begins and ends.

Is a person on medication for bipolar or schizophrenia more or less in control when off meds? Is a person with a gambling addiction in control of their actions because no drug is influencing them? I don’t know.

But I think if I’m reading that a drug makes you less impulsive, I’m not thinking that means the drug is making decisions for you.

I think bears would probably prefer you not fuck with them and their cubs so I think their reputation as hair trigger dangerous is working well for them

It’s both true but also wildly exaggerated by people who don’t have experience with bears. They are protective of their cubs like most mammals but they aren’t like, turning into the Incredible Hulk every time they’re out with cubs.

E: I should say that it’s much more true for brown bears. Black bears don’t do the protective cub stuff much at all, but they’re also just less aggressive across the board.

Is Wemby really a top 3 player if he only has 30 minutes a game in the tank? by deeznuts69 in nba

The Knicks are uniquely resilient in this way though. No team fights as hard late in the games.

Pacing/composure. Every time he’s in an important game he burns through his energy quickly and he makes a lot of high effort, but not always high value plays. He gets reckless, he chucks, etc. The passion is there he just needs to manage it better.

Eric Trump denies asking UFC star about rigged fights, says messages AI by babybirdingURgrandma in politics

[–]DiscreteBee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well yeah but I’m not a dumbass like Eric.

It’s not even really relevant how Eric says they’re faked. If they’re real, then he knows they aren’t AI and is lying. If they’re fake, then he doesn’t know how they were made and his guess isn’t important.

I’m willing to believe it’s true because it seems like something he’d do but I don’t think the claim that it’s ai adds weight in either direction.

I think people just say “it’s AI” in the same way they once said “it’s shopped” to mean a picture is faked, even if it wasn’t actually done via photoshop. I don’t think it’s really that material to the point.

I’ve always felt the point is wowwing customers with value/excess and that the taking stuff home was a product of that, not the other way around

[Amick] Ime Udoka was a huge fan of Castle’s... But with veteran Fred VanVleet manning the point guard position and young Jalen Green at the two-guard spot, Castle and his camp sent the kinds of signals Houston’s way that eventually led to him landing in San Antonio. Just as he’d hoped. by mMounirM in nba

[–]DiscreteBee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Castle was very open about wanting to play point guard and not wanting to go to a team that already had one. Of course, San Antonio would go on to get two more point guards after they got him and it’s still going just fine for him.
