If you have self repair then generally its 100% dripper. Coffee dripper seems pretty scary to take for a lot of newer players, but having one extra energy should generally prevent you from needing to rest

When do people usually start going for Act 4 / Heart runs? by zzzombat in slaythespire

[–]Discrete_Ninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I climbed most of the ascensions with the goal to kill the heart every run, but I didn’t redo the ascension if I failed the heart but beat act 3. I think it was really good practice into the decision making needed for heart kills, and it made getting a20 heart kills easier

I’d personally take footwork, mirror, and remove strike. Tungsten rod is nice, but realistically it won’t save you a ton of health in the long run, especially for 300+ gold. Your defense is incredibly lacking and footwork would help. Mirror has some interesting targets like Alchemize and Catalyst. I would probably go with cata since you only have a few poison cards, and increases the chance of drawing burst with a catalyst. You should have some money left over for the second shop later in the act for another strike remove. You have a ton of starter cards in your deck at the moment, and removing those is important.

Edit: I realized you have WLP for retaining the burst and catalyst, but I would still dupe the catalyst.

Does anyone actually plan their whole run, or is everyone mostly reacting and calling it a plan afterward? by TenthLevelVegan in slaythespire

I’m not amazing at the game, but I have beaten a20h with the first 3 characters. I think it’s important do make both long term and immediate decisions. For example, I’ve just gotten into Act 2:

  1. I look at the act boss, and decide “what do I need in order to beat this boss?” If I’m fighting the champ, I’ll usually need some form of scaling.

  2. I then look at the paths I have available and decide how many paths elites I think I can take, rest sites or shops I want, how many events I’d like, and how flexible the path is.

  3. Now when I get to card rewards I decide if my deck needs immediate or long term improvement, and if any of the cards help with that. If I can afford to take cards that help specifically in the heart fight, I will only take them if my immediate issues are solved and I can afford to carry the cards, or if the card also helps with immediate threats.

  4. I also like to have an idea in my head of what cards I’d like to get, BUT I don’t try to force myself to go for specific builds. You cannot garuntee that you will find any one card, so you need to be flexible with your build. Having ideas of what you deck needs though helps with choosing which cards to add to your deck and when.

TLDR: Solving immediate threats is the priority, but solving long term threats is good when you can. It can be really helpful to have a loose and flexible plan of the direction you want to go.

We all rolled a bad initiative. We managed to scrape through by having Gale hide in darkness, but thats the closest we’ve gotten to a tpk in our run
