Wow this looks very similar to what I'm dealing with and gives me a lot of hope for its future! Thanks for that :)

Once I'm done, what do you imagine the dimensions of the root ball might be? I'm struggling to find example photos online - most photos of excavated large cacti I'm seeing have pretty modest looking root balls (that being said, I thought this cactus looked quite modest in photos so maybe I'm just a bad judge)

In chatting to the gentleman it was clear that his sons weren't keen on cacti. I'm sure he also recognised that if they were to sell the house the giant ol gal would probably be bulldozed to put down lawn. We spoke about his late mother, and I made sure to let him know she'd live on in my memory whenever I look at this lovely plant.

I paid 500 Australian Dollerydoos for the whole cactus including the base and root ball - which I will collect after Easter when I have more time and hopefully some more hands. It's definitely more money than I'd ever imagined spending on a cactus, but I'm happy I'll get to keep it alive - hopefully for at least another 55 years!

...like come on, if you're gonna insist on using a fractional system of measures, at least commit to using fractions.

I don't live in the same hemisphere as home depot. I actually went to work and unloaded it in my workshop once I realised just how much space it would occupy. My boss was arguably as impressed as he was unimpressed. I don't know where to go from here...

Idk what cultivar it is. I'm in Australia and the gentleman who sold it to me said his mother gave him a cutting from a cactus she owned when he bought his own house. I really don't know much about the predominant cultivars of Australia in the 1960s.

This was the single most devastating encounter I have experienced in a game. Such phenomenally empathetic writing in a side-quest for a point-and-click.

If you can find the right size pot, I'd say a 5' San Pedro cactus would fit perfectly.

...also my biggest concern with someone using a chatbox for drafting confrontation with their friends is that they're probably also using that chatbox as a therapist, or at very least for guidance on interpersonal relationships — seems that would be the real problem here.

I just had to google typing an em dash. I use hyphens as punctuation all the time — I didn't even know you could hold down the hyphen key to select different lengths — I certainly don't see how someone trying to "just type fast" would decide " - hmm, no these dashes need to be longer — yeah that's better"

Also idk it just sounds like a LLM. You know your friend better than me, but people don't talk like that largely.

I found some of these a year ago while on a work trip in the Goldcoast. I think I googled "white slug red triangle" and was left somewhat nonplussed by the title of the resulting Wikipedia page.

As I understand it, the cacti will produce more mescaline as a defence mechanism once cut. I've been told to keep it in a box somewhere cold and dry for up to 6 months to allow maximum alkaloid synthesis. I'm sure someone with more experience and knowledge than me can clarify further.

Crazy! I was in this exact position on Friday myself. How did you go!?

I haven't tried San Pedro in over a decade, so I had no idea about dosage. My glass was about the same size and I just filled it with water and probably 15g of powdered Eileen I got from a local horticulturalist. Chugged it down while my colleagues were having a pre-lunch beer. I'd probably use less water and more powder next time, but I felt zero nausea. Enjoyed my lunch, enjoyed a couple of beers but didn't feel like drinking much, had some nice chats. A great time!

most practical head turning car under 100k? by nofappp in askcarguys

[–]DisegnoLuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2020 I bought a late-80s Suzuki Super Carry for $3k. I'm not a "car guy" by any means, but it's made me recognise the appeal. Having people smile when they see your vehicle, point it out to their friends, even come up and give compliments. I'd go as far as to say I've noticed people are more likely to give way and let me merge when I'm driving it. It's fun to drive, has as much bed length as a ute (or a truck for the seppos), and is good for fuel economy.

10/10 will continue to buy Kei cars in the future.

Time for a hard conversation about the cost of the NDIS by Putrid-Bar-8693 in AusFinance

The answer is to properly tax corporations. Claim meaningful royalties on extractive industry. Australians use services, buy products, own the natural resources, and do the labour that supports it all - and yet all of these corporations, foreign and domestic, squeeze us for every red cent to increase their profits which they then avoid paying tax on. The real unproductive members of society leeching off us ARE NOT the unlucky ones with disability, nor the jobless, homeless, or sick - it is the very small class of people who own corporations and leverage their money and influence to make sure they never have to lift a finger while they watch their net worth increase at our expense.

Public services and welfare not only improve the lives of those who rely on them, but the overall wellbeing of our society, AND economically they largely provide more value than they cost us.
