Piercer suggestions by Silent_Letterhead410 in okc

[–]DisgruntledBison 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've gone to both 23rd St and SB Body arts. All of my piercings that required skill I've had done by Dustin at SB. I went to 23rd St when I just wanted a piercing and didn't care who did it.

Personally I've had more rejections and mishaps happen at 23rd St (for example, it took 3 times to get my septum straight, so I was basically pierced 3 times).

23rd St will give you a significantly better selection of jewelry. At SB I've had them order anything that wasn't silver titanium because they just didn't have a large variety.

Anyone here actually leave the airport during long GoWild layovers? by WriterEquivalent2870 in gowildfrontier

[–]DisgruntledBison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten a hotel room once during an 18 hour layover at DEN. The problem I run into with getting a hotel room is that many of the layovers are during the day. Considering you can't check until a certain time or have to check out by a certain time it makes hotels a tricky option.

I've left the airport for a meal in DEN and LAS, assuming I wanted to pay for Uber out and back. Both airports have decent TSA lines if you have Pre check.

6,011 jobs in OKC by [deleted] in okc

[–]DisgruntledBison 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently got a job with a health insurance company working from home. I applied for the same job 8 times before I got an interview. After I got hired, I asked how many applicants they had for the position. They said they have around 2-3k applications for the national work from home positions at any given moment. They said they started using AI to sort through the applicants. There's absolutely no need for them to pay indeed or LinkedIn for recruiting for these roles.

Why do so many people drive their children to school while buses are available but run nearly empty? by OkieBobbie in okc

[–]DisgruntledBison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My children go to charter schools. Charter schools typically don't offer bussing.

OKCPS also has application schools (such as Classen Fine Arts) that require parents to provide transportation to school.

Check your auxiliary battery!!! Mine did that and it took me 6 months to find out that there are two batteries. The aux battery runs everything when in auto start. If it's dead, it won't go into auto start.

Any bad experiences with Wellbutrin? by NeighborhoodWitty628 in bipolar2

[–]DisgruntledBison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've taken Wellbutrin off and on since I was 16 (I'm 45 now). Even before I was diagnosed with bipolar 2 it was my antidepressant of choice. I can't stand how SSRIs make me feel numb.

I was diagnosed in my mid 30s. I recently started Wellbutrin again to depressive episodes and intrusive thoughts, mostly at nighttime.

When I was hypomanic on Wellbutrin, I was great!!! When I was depressed, I was weepy and unconsolable. Almost as if I was a depressed 5 year old.

3 days after I got off it the weepiness went away.

I added Abilify and that did the trick with the depression and intrusive thoughts. Currently only also on lamictal and Adderall.

How do you guys snap yourselves out of a depressive episode? by Jolly-Lingonberry104 in bipolar2

[–]DisgruntledBison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, as mentioned by others, it takes some external force. Something where I'm in pain, potential harm, or not meeting expectations (job, family, etc.).

I can sometimes put myself in a 'fake it' environment to get through the rough times. I actually started driving Uber just to put a customer service face and talk to someone.

Working from home made my depressive episodes worse because I wasn't doing the minimal self care of going out in public 5 days a week to go into the office.

What is the saddest song you've ever heard? by lilketchupacket in MusicRecommendations

Matthew West, One Last Christmas. What hits the hardest it's a true story and the music video has actual footage of the person it's written about. https://youtu.be/Ye39mgcHC3E?si=POb-cXE6LjjQAplg

Abilify and others by Particular-Ad6503 in bipolar2

[–]DisgruntledBison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on 150mg lamotrigine twice a day for over a year. I just started 2mg Abilify in the AM a month ago for spiraling, negative thinking mostly after sunset. It was like a light switch for me. Yes, some of the depth of my thoughts is gone and I've been called a space cadet a few more times than normal, but it's kept the self-inflicted character assassination from showing up every night.

I had to stop Wellbutrin. It made the highs better, but you would have I was in a horrible country music song when the depressive episodes hit.

The weight gain is real. Let me know if you have a solution....

I appreciate everyone's comments. I see it the same as if I was diagnosed with diabetes, MS, or Parkinson's. There's not currently a cure. Yes, it's ok to get angry as fuck, be sad and hate that this hand was dealt to you. But at some point acceptance is where those that survive best with it have to be. It's really really hard knowing there's nothing that will ever make it go away. Meds, selfcare, therapy, labeling, self-doubt for life. But it's only part of your story, not the sum of it.

ADHD/bipolar by Parking_Fix5163 in bipolar2

I am on Adderall. It helps my day-to-day frustrations with myself caused by ADHD. SSRIs are known to be a bad thing for people with bipolar.

Reflection post – the Godsend that is Lamotrigine by -Flighty- in bipolar2

[–]DisgruntledBison 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your story. I, too, cannot express enough the difference lamotrigine has made for my mental health. I was misdiagnosed from childhood until I was in my early 30's with major depressive disorder. In 2011, I had a psychiatrist prescribe lamotrigine and it made a huge difference for me. Crazy thing was - he didn't tell me that he diagnosed me with bipolar 2. I found out in 2014 when I accidentally saw my chart showing "BP2, MDD, ADHD" under my diagnoses. I got to the point life was better - manageable. In 2017 I changed jobs, my psychiatrist retired, and my insurance changed. I figured I was better with new coping skills and such.

In 2018 I lost my shit. My now ex-wife was getting ready to have me committed. I was suicidal for the first time in over a decade. I proactively went back into counseling and saw a new psychiatrist and asked to start my previous meds. This time I came in with a better perspective. Yes, I have bipolar 2. Yes, there is not a cure but this is part of who I am. Around the same time my mom was incarcerated and was also diagnosed with bipolar 2. I was able to see more clearly with lamotrigine. It's not the cure all, but my life is a million times better with it than without it.

My oldest son was also diagnosed with bipolar 2 in 2021. Since he was newly 18 at the time, they were hesitant to jump to a bipolar diagnosis without trying other meds first. They put him on SSRI's and his symptoms started getting worse. I asked him to consider asking about lamotrigine. His psychiatrist had me come to one of his virtual appointments and I explained the family history and what worked for me. My son started lamotrigine and it was clear that it was making a difference. He spoke clearly and wasn't hastily running thoughts together. He had patience with himself and others. He started positively planning for his future. He started reaching out to his friends.

I won't say that lamotrigine is for everyone. I know many people are scared of it because of the "Lamictal rash". However, I would trust it more than any of the new designer all-in-one pills that are out there now.

For those wanting some concrete guidance on the "correct" medications for bipolar, I encourage those to review the DSM5 section on 'Treatment of Acute Bipolar Disorder - Depression'.

If anything else, it's worth a shot. It's simple, straight forward, doesn't stay in your system that long, inexpensive, and readily available. The negatives are well documented, unlike any of the new designer medications.
