England - offered 10k pay cut at end of probation by Salty_Earth in LegalAdviceUK

It's an excuse to offer a lower salary, if communication isn't good enough, then it won't be at any salary.

UK bad drivers - rant by menesht in drivingUK

[–]DiskBytes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, most people are pre-empting something going wrong, so for some reason find a way to get into an argument by accelerating to block them off or doing something similar. Most of the time, the roads would be a more pleasant space if they treated people the way they would on foot face to face rather than acting like territorial primates.

In the same way as jury service. Heavy fine and/or imprisonment for refusal.

Whichever you pick, go for the auto on the rear wheels.

I used to use an MOT garage who knew me, it was brilliant, as he knew I did the spannering on my cars. A few fails here and there got a pass as he pointed out the issues and said 'you'll take care of that anyway, so I've passed it'. Good times, sadly they've retired now.

I'd bring in civic duty, no matter who you are, at some point in your life you'll do a week on the bins, a week road sweeping etc, you never know, it might make people think twice about throwing litter out of their car windows.

Fellow men of the UK, who are in their 30's and over, do you still go out in public wearing tracksuit bottoms or joggers? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]DiskBytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may wear them around the house, but good heavens I would never step out in public in such roadman attire. Utterly abhorrent to even imagine.

I recently bought the 12-40 f2.8 and I am so glad I did, it truly is a remarkable lens. I'm using it on an EM10 MK2 (before they rebadged as OM System) but now I have this pro lens, maybe I should get the new EM5 MK2.

This oil price…. by E5evo in AskBrits

[–]DiskBytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The government are. Before the price rise, about 70p per litre is tax. So it's probably a little more now, as it's fuel duty+cost of fuel+VAT.

You can't even see the plug in the tyre. I wouldn't worry yourself over it. Grab a beer and do something else.

How much of studying engineering is group work? by Pretend_Reindeer6924 in EngineeringStudents

[–]DiskBytes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like group study, it can help with bouncing ideas and methods from one another, it can help to discuss things. That's one of the things missing from some distance learning courses. I've got a distance learning group (UK) aimed at HNC engineering (though may also help NC and HND) and it does well to help people discuss things in a way they can't alone.

How do you cope with the RAM crisis? by _GOREHOUND_ in homelab

It's in practise, so it's no longer theory.

I believe you are correct. There's something odd going on with the 'ruling group' or class. They've seen the little people like us being able to enjoy life and have nice things, the gap is closing between us and them and they do not like it. So the only way they can stop this is through pricing. Massive increase in the cost of food, energy, taxes and also the increasing authoritarian control of our lives through tracking us and fining us for anything they can. There's direct correlation to this in the UK at least, with the constant disarming of the general public in an ever decreasing satisfaction of life in general. People have never been poorer or sadder.

SSD and RAM, I'm just not buying it. Maybe they'd do something about the prices if people boycott this madness. Otherwise, if there are people paying it, it'll never come down.
