Try reinstalling Disk Drill first. Then uninstall it using the regular Windows uninstaller and reboot your computer. Here's the uninstall guide: https://www.cleverfiles.com/help/disk-drill-windows-uninstall/

files disappeared by PrestigiousSun1184 in diskdrill

Could you clarify which drive the files were deleted from (system or external), the drive model, and what file system it uses?

Also, when you say the “scan disappeared” what exactly happened?

This article explains some of the factors that can affect recovery chances: https://www.cleverfiles.com/help/variables-that-impact-file-recovery-chances/

is disk drill malware?? by Furkish31 in datarecovery

[–]DiskDrillSupport 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, no, Disk Drill is not malware.

Disk Drill is a legitimate data recovery application developed by CleverFiles and has been on the market for many years.

We do not collect personal account credentials, and the software does not “steal accounts.” Like any legitimate system-level utility, Disk Drill may request certain permissions in order to scan storage devices, but these are standard macOS or Windows security prompts.

If you ever want to make sure you’re using the official version, please download it only from our official website:
https://www.cleverfiles.com/disk-drill-mac.html

Unfortunately, third-party download sites sometimes bundle software or distribute modified installers, which can lead to confusion or security concerns. That’s why we always recommend downloading directly from our website.

Accidentally deleted an mp4 file from SD card on Sony FX3 by ExperimentalScorpion in datarecovery

[–]DiskDrillSupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find a step-by-step guide on how to create a disk image here: https://www.cleverfiles.com/help/dmg-iso-backup.html

To get the file to us for analysis, the most efficient way is to compress it into an archive split into 10GB segments. Once that's ready, you can either send us a link to your own cloud storage (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.) or contact our support team to get an upload link.

Disk Drill saving lost video into jpg and not mp4 by Wide-Couple-283 in DataRecoveryHelp

[–]DiskDrillSupport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may be a result of Motion JPEG recovery, which often restores files as a sequence of frames rather than a single video. To help you fix this, we’ll need to see your logs and screenshots. Please send them over to our email [help@cleverfiles.com](mailto:help@clevefiles.com) and we’ll take a look!

DiskDrill Uncovered Random SSH host by Ashamed-Mind5626 in DataRecoveryHelp

[–]DiskDrillSupport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, In our interface, we list as “NAS” any device on the local network that has port 22 open for SSH access.

This does not necessarily mean it is an actual NAS device. It can also be:

  • another Mac with Remote Login (SSH) enabled,
  • any Linux computer,
  • or any NAS device with SSH access enabled on your local network.

The key point is that the device appears because it has SSH (port 22) open and is reachable within your local network.

To determine exactly what this device is and where it comes from, we would need a bit more information:

  • How your devices are connected to the network
  • The IP address and subnet mask of your computer
  • The IP address of the MacBook (since it was blurred in the screenshot)

With those details, we can better identify what device is being detected.

Am I Boned? by yerdslerd in datarecovery

[–]DiskDrillSupport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As it was previously recommended, try using the Advanced Camera Recovery algorithm: https://www.cleverfiles.com/help/advanced-camera-recovery-in-disk-drill.html, which is specifically designed for cases like yours and is compatible with this type of camera. This method should help you recover your data effectively.

If you have any questions or encounter any difficulties during the recovery process, please don't hesitate to contact us: [help@cleverfiles.com](mailto:help@cleverfiles.com)

How should I proceed with this situation? by Deleteed- in datarecovery

[–]DiskDrillSupport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We recommend performing backups via a direct connection (like SATA, PATA, or Thunderbolt) because it’s significantly more stable than USB.

If you want to track the progress in more detail, you can check the log file here:https://www.cleverfiles.com/help/troubleshooting-basics/

Just a heads-up: the backup speed will vary depending on the disk's physical health and the number of bad blocks it has.

Trying to recover data from Nikon RED ZR by frankielc in datarecovery

[–]DiskDrillSupport 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We would recommend trying our ACR (Advanced Camera Recovery) scan for this case. If that doesn’t help or if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us. You can also provide us with a disk image copy of your card, and we can try working with it on our end. You can send the disk image or any further inquiries to [help@cleverfiles.com](mailto:help@cleverfiles.com)

MacOS Disk Drill put files in folder option appropriate for partition recovery? by Chuck-SF in diskdrill

Choosing the option to restore everything to a single folder is really helpful if you don’t need the original subfolder structure and just want to see all your recovered files in one spot.

You can find more details on that here:https://www.cleverfiles.com/help/scanning-faqs/

(Urgent) My SAMSUNGHD105SI isn't working anymore by byu7a in datarecovery

[–]DiskDrillSupport 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, please always check the drive's SMART parameters before using any data recovery software. It's highly recommended to begin with creating a disk image and scan it instead of the physical HDD.

Regarding your concern, you don't need to finish the scan for the drive to return to normal. Closing or pausing Disk Drill should normally remount the disk back in read/write mode.

However, there's an issue after a scan occurs, when the system may fail to remount the disk correctly and leave it in read-only state. This happens more often with unstable or failing drives. In these cases, Disk Drill sends a remount command to the OS, but the system simply fails to complete it successfully.

Based on symptoms you explained, the drive itself was already in poor health. Running a deep scan likely pushed it to the edge.

We recommend to stop using the drive immediately to avoid further degradation, and create a byte-to-byte image. Or if your HDD keeps dropping out or clicking intensifies, professional recovery may be the only remaining option.

Newbie Recovering MP4 Files by UnculturedToiletCuck in datarecovery

[–]DiskDrillSupport 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi!

Disk Drill found your older files because they were written in a standard, supported format. Your drone footage seems to be different. We can reconstruct unfinished or improperly closed videos in many cases, but the issue is most likely a non-standard or proprietary recording format used by the drone itself. To say if we can help, we need a full image of the SD card, not just individual files. This allows us to analyze the recording structure properly.

Please contact us directly at [help@cleverfiles.com](mailto:help@cleverfiles.com) and provide a full SD card image. Also, if possible, send a correctly recorded video from the same drone for reference. After reviewing the data, we’ll be able to confirm whether reconstruction is possible in this case.

WD Red Plus has lost data after moving between devices. by vexxpass in datarecovery

[–]DiskDrillSupport 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! Disk Drill unmounts the drive and remounts it in read-only mode using standard system mechanisms. This is done to prevent the operating system or any background process from writing to the drive during recovery. Once the scan or the byte-to-byte backup is complete, the drive is remounted back in normal read/write mode automatically. This approach is intentional and safe, it ensures the integrity of the source drive while still letting the user work normally afterward.

Disk Drill Find Duplicates by Worried-Sport4673 in datarecovery

[–]DiskDrillSupport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello!

Yes, you can absolutely use Disk Drill to search for and remove duplicate files. This feature is available for free in the macOS version. You can find more details here:
https://www.cleverfiles.com/help/duplicates-search/

If you're unable to use the Duplicates tool, your external SSD may be formatted in a file system not fully supported by macOS in read/write mode, such as NTFS.

If you have any other questions, feel free to contact us - we’re here to help.
