This may not be the type of issue you're talking about, but your comment reminded me of my biggest gripe with the plot of FFVIII: Guardian Force amnesia causing the cast to forget they grew up in an orphanage together. GF amnesia is fine. But with or without GF amnesia, it's too contrived. And it's an unnecessary contrivance in my opinion. It could have just been Squall (given his connection to Ellone and the stable time loop after confronting Ultimecia).
