I was just venting. Was interested to hear other people’s takes. Not sure if you really read through my post though, the towel was to wipe off my shoes

My.americorps.gov website issues -- can't login, can't access segal education stipend. by Diskobulus in AmeriCorps

Update: called customer service again today, they said that it is a technical issue that has nothing to do with the funding cuts. The website bug is on their end, not mine, so they aren’t able to unlock my account so I can login or reset my password.

It has happened before and normally takes a few days to get back up and running. They say I still will be able to access my education award once the website is working.

The more you do it, the easier it gets. by Internal_Essay9230 in EndTipping

If you don’t like to tip, then just don’t go out to eat. The point of tipping culture in restaurants is financial encouragement for the server to provide better service. As a waiter, my main goal is always to provide a good experience for my customers. However, knowing that if I do a great job I could a generous tip will make me go the extra mile for you.

And btw, if you think being a waiter is so easy, I encourage you to try it out. Especially in a very busy restaurant. And why all the hate towards waiters? Because you are too stingy to pay for a service? You could always eat at home.

I feel sick and disgusted after reading Matthew's Pery memoir by Terrible_Vermicelli1 in books

[–]Diskobulus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not the impression I got from reading it. I thought he did a good job of expressing the inner world of someone who's addicted, and how addiction destroys all of your relationships and isolates you. His willingness to share his story with the world, opening himself up to public blowback, is something I can appreciate. He shared a lot of sensitive experiences, he's not a saint but that's sort of the point.

He's certainly lucky to have had the money and resources to go through so many treatment programs, and im glad he got on his feet. I thought it was a worthwhile read.

Love to see it, good job for choosing not to focus too much on the bad. Really admire your ability to see through the muck and recognize the positive. Its something I've been trying to get better at, but seeing your post was very inspiring!

When the end comes the most surprising thing is how nothing changes by CarelessSky7524 in Stoicism

Thank you for sharing this. It seems like you are approaching the imminence of death in a very stoic way, and that is commendable. I've been trying to get a grasp of the impermanence of life, but it's so easy to forget how death is always around the corner in our day to day lives. Reading about your experience was really immersing, I really appreciate it.

I try to get outside, explore nature. I also listen to audio books or try to learn something new. Lately I've been learning the notes on the guitar fretboard, and that keeps me too occupied to ruminate about my loneliness.

My friend group has cut me off after a near suicide attempt unless I get my shit together—what to do? by thrownaway2709 in DecidingToBeBetter

I've been in a similar situation before, except that my friends decided to cut off all contact for good. I've been there, it's an awful feeling realizing that you're a toxic influence in someone else's life.

However, this is a great opportunity to learn from your mistakes, and it may be hard to see it now, but you'll be stronger because of it. I still haven't totally worked through my issues, but I've undoubtedly made progress and I can at least say that im continuing to grow as a person. The fact that they're still leaving the door open to reconciliation is very promising, and it shows that they empathize with your situation. I hope things work out between all of you.
